Did Florida already pass the law undoing the requirement that DeSantis resign if he was running for another office? Or is he on a timer now to resign as governor or as a candidate?

I can usually tell when I’m listening to a deepfake audio, but not always. That’s where it pays to stay informed because you can almost always detect a fake from the context.

Earlier this week I was on the phone talking to a financial institution. Once they authenticated that I was indeed me, (imagine that!) they offered me the opportunity to set up voice authentication. I declined because I have no idea where AI voicefake is going, where counter technology is going and have absolutely no desire to participate in the institutional and criminal learning curves.

He likes it because he has a bit of memory of watching before, and because they are visually interesting. I don’t think he can keep up with long plots anymore. I try to interweave MASH episodes and long walks or drives.

Pffftt! Most of those boats aren’t any longer than 24 meters, or 78 feet (which is the French legal definition for a super yacht, for tax purposes).

Now, for Oligarchs, you need a boat the length of a destroyer or a light cruiser from WW2 to even *be in the game* for big dickage show-off wealth displays.

Most Polaris Rzrs are 1000 cc. The smallest Harley-Davidson motor you can get is 737 cc.

1000cc is the engine size in my car. I can bury the speedometer in my car (okay it only goes up to 100mph but still).

We had a problem with teenagers speeding on the village streets until the sheriff impounded a few vehicles. That ended tout suite.

None of these vehicles require a driver’s license in my state, but failure to comply with the law gets the vehicle immediately impounded and you a traffic ticket.

ATVs, UTVs, and mini-bikes are not allowed on roads. They are not allowed to be modified from the manufacturer design withe performance-enhancing or lighting equipment. Out-of-state vehicles brought here by new residents must be accompanied with the title (if the state issues it) or the original sales receipt (including other sales receipts if sold by a private individual). A registration fee (a permanent license plate) of $10 is also required.

Moped’s definition includes electric bicycles. They can only be operated on public roads. The pedals must remain on the vehicles. If the pedals are removed, it is automatically designated a motorcycle. Any vehicle operated on a public road (other than manual bicycles and similar vehicles) must carry liability insurance.

Any vehicle purchased overseas must include the foreign original bill-of-sale, any subsequent private sales, and documents showing importation tax was paid.

All vehicles registered here require proof of sales tax paid when purchased in another state. If no proof is provided, sales tax will automatically be assessed before the title and registration are issued.

The JWs have been sending letters to try to recruit people, after they discontinued door knocking at the start of the pandemic.

My wife got a letter today from the Unitarian-Universalists trying to recruit (and ask for money).

re: #3 FFL (GOP Delenda Est)

Did Florida already pass the law undoing the requirement that DeSantis resign if he was running for another office? Or is he on a timer now to resign as governor or as a candidate?

They passed the bill, but the legislature refused to pass it over to DeSantis to sign. I’m not sure how Florida law works which would allow them to do that.

If they just let it sit unsigned, eventually it becomes law without DeSantis having to touch it.

The only reason I say grants is that he would have to remind her that the idiot exists.

I took time to state one of my pet peeves. I waited tables back in the day, and those fake $100 tracts were so annoying. I preferred drunk college students dumping money in their water glasses. Because wet MONEY still spends when dry.

Christians in that thread really showing that Christian love. Lots of little execution device emojis all over the thread.

But they wonder why so many are leaving the pews and will never come back.

Come on, Ron, you should have done it in the tried-and-tested Rubio way: Promise for months that if you run for the presidency that you won’t run for reelection…and then file for reelection almost as soon as your candidacy goes belly up.

My employer, just today, guaranteed my limited employment through the summer (we’re a ski company, so…)

I’m very near calling this gig “passive income.” I don’t do much these days but my boss pays me.

I’m envious of you—you have a good gig doing something you love. I like parts of my job (fixing problems). I don’t like the politics.

I figure a 500 lb. Mk.82 with proper fusing could sink most of these tubs of ill repute. I know where there is an A-1D Skyraider for sale, functional except for its 20mm cannons. It will carry 16 Mk 82s if one might somehow get those.

It’s an uncomfortable truth that Midsomer, England, a quaint town filled with wealthy eccentrics, is the murder capital of the world.

I’d say Cabot Cove, Maine is a strong contender for that dubious honor.

That thing was supposed to be sent to DeeSatinist (Ron’s pronunciation) last week. They Florida Man Legislature apparently fucked up the wording in the bill, had to redo it, vote on it again, and didn’t get it to DehSatinist (Cayce’s pronunciation) until after lunch today, hence the delay. Not that it mattered, because Elon’s Plastic Fantastic Web Site™ was so fucked up that nothing worked for half an hour.

And I’m off to bed, laughing my ass off about *that* particular shit-show.

Deepest regrets to Tina’s surviving family and friends. That woman was a force of nature and Ike died and went to hell many years ago. Surviving your tormentor has to be sweet revenge.

Be nice to each other.

*snork*

Some years back a group of people trolled StoneKettle claiming that they were his bastard children from Nebraska. I suspect that his anger at Nebraska is just performative.

Iirc, he’s headed to a Montana SciFi convention.

He’s correct about I-29 in Iowa being closed. It’s been closed for several years. That’s an Iowa problem though, not Nebraska. (The photo is him going over the bridge from Council Bluffs to Iowa.) I got caught the same way on a trip home from Chicago.

The United States remains in a heightened threat environment. Lone offenders and small groups motivated by a range of ideological beliefs and personal grievances continue to pose a persistent and lethal threat to the Homeland. Both domestic violent extremists (DVEs) and those associated with foreign terrorist organizations continue to attempt to motivate supporters to conduct attacks in the Homeland, including through violent extremist messaging and online calls for violence. In the coming months, factors that could mobilize individuals to commit violence include their perceptions of the 2024 general election cycle and legislative or judicial decisions pertaining to sociopolitical issues. Likely targets of potential violence include US critical infrastructure, faith-based institutions, individuals or events associated with the LGBTQIA+ community, schools, racial and ethnic minorities, and government facilities and personnel, including law enforcement.
