Taking a page out of the Madison Cawthorn playbook? When called out for malfeasance, go on and claim everything he’s accused of doing is things other GOPers openly do and commit egregious violations and malfeasance daily.

Throw the GOP all out of office.

Some of those sites really involve a different type of experience; messenger? What’s App? those are just apps that allow you to communicate in real time with friends/family. Modern replacement for a phone conversation.

I think most or all of them allow you to share links / pics etc. no reason to put them lower in the share button stack
Ideally, there would be one share button with a multitude of options & you could flag the ones you want to save to prominence in a cookie.

Probably congresscritters in general. But alcohol is legal, adultery demonstrates a lack of honesty, but it’s between the partners; insider trading is its part of the reason (IMHO) some people go to congress.

Eastman asking for an earlier trial date is a slightly interesting development. My guess is that whatever the Claremont Institute is paying him isn’t nearly enough to cover his legal bill, and will probably be much less once the State Bar disbars him.

I still don’t think he’ll take a deal, but trying to get his case heard sooner is likely a sign that he’s broke.

One way I know my Republican parents were old style liberal Republicans and would be out of the GOP today - they turned me on to Stan Freberg with “the Flackman and Reagan”, had both of Tom Lehrer’s self-published albums, introduced me to Mel Brooks through the 1000-year old man (“They can all go to Hell, except Cave 7”), loved the Limeliters (hated the Kingston Trio because of their IP issues), saw Odetta and Larry in SF (had the vinyl with “I was Born About 10,000 Years Ago/The Biggest Thing Man Has Ever Done”), had all the Button-down mind LPs of of Newhart, loved Harry Belafonte and had an old recording of Andy Griffith doing “What it was was football”.

They had a great sense of hiumor and loved night club greats they saw while living in the Bay Area. And they still loved them all of their lives. Few MAGA Republicains could deal with that line up at all today. Miss them both so much.

I think that’s the case everywhere, federal or state. One of the criticisms of what happened to Derek Chauvin in Tucson FCI is the prison is understaffed. I know that when I get out of Phoenix, heading southeast towards Florence, there are billboards advertising vacancies. (There are three prison facilities in Florence, two in Eloy.) Correctional officer trainees get a whopping $19.99 per hour (I went and checked). You can get a minimum of $21.70/hour to work the phones as a Call Center Specialist at the Department of Child Safety. That’s probably a terrible job too, but at least you don’t run the risk of getting shanked by an inmate.

The county implemented an “aggressive recruitment campaign” to hire more detention officers, but “what was really pivotal in getting the numbers up was some pay raises,” said county spokeswoman Olivia Romo.

Starting pay for a detention officer used to be $21.66 an hour. Santa Fe County has since bumped it up to $26 an hour.

You mean people are more willing to work when you pay them a reasonable wage?

Not really fine to claim it. It may be legal if that’s all you do, but is it really legal and not committing a fraud on the public if you are lying about the statement and trying to incite anger among your base, leading them to commit illegal actions on your behalf?

The use of anti-tank dogs was escalated during 1941 and 1942, when every effort was made by the Red Army to stop the German advance at the Eastern Front of World War II. In that period, dog training schools were mostly focused on producing anti-tank dogs. About 40,000 dogs were deployed for various tasks in the Red Army.[9]

The first group of anti-tank dogs arrived at the frontline at the end of the summer of 1941 and included 30 dogs and 40 trainers. Their deployment revealed some serious problems. In order to save fuel and ammunition, dogs had been trained on tanks which stood still and did not fire their guns. In the field, the dogs refused to dive under moving tanks. Some persistent dogs ran near the tanks, waiting for them to stop but were shot in the process. Gunfire from the tanks scared away many of the dogs. They would run back to the trenches and often detonated the charge upon jumping in, killing Soviet soldiers. To prevent this, the returning dogs had to be shot, often by their controllers and this made the trainers unwilling to work with new dogs. Some went so far as to say that the army did not stop with sacrificing people to the war and went on to slaughter dogs too; those who openly criticized the program were persecuted by “special departments” (military counterintelligence)

Not really fine to claim it. It may be legal if that’s all you do, but is it really legal and not committing a fraud on the public if you are lying about the statement and trying to incite anger among your base, leading them to commit illegal actions on your behalf?

inciting hatred and anger is DJT’s condept of “core political speech”

Silk long underwear. They are thin and work. Put a pair of your choice jeans or whatever over them. Thin and you’ll forget they are there. My secret in winters from hell. Then you layer your tops as T shirt/shirt/jacket.
Wool socks top it off and a good pair of insulated boots and a wicking cap and you good to go.

The fact that he’s hosting a horribly racist white South African and reminding people of Israel’s absolutely despicable history of nuclear cooperation with apartheid South Africa is, sadly, a minimal risk.

re: #130 HRH Stanley Sea

There is no better, more painful and more outrageous testimony to Netanyahu’s hollow leadership: during the 52 days since the October 7th massacre, he visited the kibbutzim of the Western Negev only twice - in Bari, where he toured the kibbutz ruins with IDF officers, and today in Kfar Gaza, where he brought the Elon Musk. What he has not yet dared to do, of course, is to personally meet the members of the kibbutzim who survived the inferno of the Shi’veh in October, or the families of the abductees, or the families of the evacuees. After 52 days. What kind of leadership is this? Is this leadership at all? Added to this is the announcement today by the Prime Minister’s Office about the Gaza village tour, where the family name of the sweet 4-year-old girl Abigail Idan, who was kidnapped to Gaza after her parents were murdered and resettled last night, was mistaken. In the message, they called her “Abigail Itamari” - probably because the tour of Bari took place at the house of the Itamari family. Let it go, a small mistake, it happens - but it’s not true. This is a mistake that once again indicates amateurism, and lack of attention, which characterize Netanyahu’s rule and “leadership” very well. By the way, President Biden already mentioned little Abigail in his speech last night. The Prime Minister, on the other hand, did not even bother to call and talk to her family. Probably prepared for a visit from Elon Musk. even though. Priorities.

136
Vicious Babushka  Nov 27, 2023 • 4:21:21pm

Since the 7/10 massacre, Prime Minister Netanyahu has visited the West Negev kibbutzim twice. In Bari, and today in Kfar Gaza.
What the prime minister has not done since October 7 is to meet the members of the kibbutzim who survived the terrible massacre, the grieving families, the families of the abductees and the displaced communities.
Twitter and Elon Musk have time. And meet with the members of the kibbutzim? It is not.

I have always been a fan of some variation of the 2 state solution. I believe that the West Bank needs to be its own nation — but with some way of dealing with the settlers who are there, perhaps by some exchange of land or financial compensation.

Palestine itself is the ancestral home of the Jewish people; a vast majority of those of us who live outside of Israel and whose recent ancestors came from Europe are in fact descendants of those people, obviously with a genetic mix from all those communities where our ancestors lived over the centuries, as is true with every group of humans.

Jews were native Palestinians 2500 years ago; every nation has its origin mythology where the true beginnings are lost in history, but Jews were there 2500 years ago and were in charge of the land at that time. There has been a Jewish presence there for all the intervening years, not a majority for many years but we were there. The Crusaders that came to “free” the Holy Land slaughtered Muslims and Jews alike.

One of my investment advisers has a daughter who lives in Israel. Her college roommate was a Bedouin who received a free college education from the government, because like all Arabs who live in Israel proper, they are citizens with full rights.

That said, the PA is feckless and corrupt and Hamas, the murderous bastards they are, have seen their chance to take advantage of that power vacuum to its own diabolical ends.

Other than Hamas being neutralized as a force and the Israeli and Palestinian leaderships having a serious “come to Jesus” (so to speak) moment to do what is in all of their constituents’ interests, whether it’s the two-state solution or something else just and equitable, I don’t know what should be done, only that the status quo isn’t right and it isn’t sustainable.

The Three Magic Books problem. At various times over the past three thousand years or so followers of three differing Magic Books have used their belief in the words of their version of their Magic Book to assert ownership of the land abutting the eastern Mediterranean shore. Weirdly enough all three Magic Books have the same Godhead who apparently promised that special land to belong to them and them only, no others need apply.

The Frankish Crusaders, the Ottoman empire and now the state of Israel have exercised the right to rule there but I wonder who will be in charge there in a few hundred years — the Egyptians perhaps? They dominated most of that area before the supposed Exodus but the Book of the Dead is silent on the matter of ownership and control.

Statements such as this are not helpful to constructive conversation, they are always meant to divide. I am fed up to my last nerve with all the antisemitism I have seen on the Internet in this past month and I don’t like seeing it on LGF.

Y’all were both getting snarky there… like two bantam roosters in a pit.

The Israeli government (which is what gdf was speaking of WRT to its nuclear dealings with apartheid-era SA and WRT how Palestinians are treated in Israeli society), especially when RWers like Netanyahu are in charge, has done some absolutely inexcusable stuff in the name of “the nation”, but so has our own (in abundance) and so has pretty much every nation that’s ever been. The thing is, do we close our eyes and sweep it under the rug or do we acknowledge when the governments we give the power to govern in our name do shit they shouldn’t and demand better?

Got the Gilbert chemistry set when I was 8. Still can find the scar.

I remember when my grade school had this…”Nothing wrong with it. Very safe to use!”

Anyone have suggestions for teas/drinks that will soothe a rough throat? I thought (still think) that it’s from an acid reflux flare up, but I can’t be sure. Right now I’m drinking warm peach tea with honey in it. It’s OK, but wondering if I should try something else?

I’m afraid I’ve become utterly indifferent to the power players in The Middle East. As I’ve said before they do not want peace, they want victory.

For the people suffering under their misrule I have the utmost pity. But there’s little I can do to help them, and nothing I can do to Gibb’s slap the people responsible for their misery.

That’s about what I’d do though usually it’s just a good quality black tea (Yorkshire Red is my preferred import from England though PG Tips is quite good too) with honey and 2 ibuprofen. I only put honey in if I’m not feeling well so it’s a classic warning sign to anyone who knows me ;)

I had this happen to me when I got Covid. A cough followed by acid reflux from too many cough drops, then actual damage to my throat. My doctor advised me to gargle warm salt water as many times per day as I could handle, and then just any warm tea to soothe.

The salt water worked wonders!

The Director of Next Goal Wins had a “distasteful” encounter with The Talking Asshole.

Director and actor Taika Waititi used his appearance on a recent podcast to dish on his experience working with Donald Trump on a 2012 NBC Super Bowl featurette entitled “Brotherhood of Man,” The Daily Beast reported.

And he doesn’t hold back on shaming the former president for his demands.

Speaking on the Smartless podcast, Waititi says he directed Trump on the project and that the former president had a “list of demands,” including having an assistant on hand who would do his makeup while also whispering admiration to him.

“He had a sort of like a make-up person who was also his ego booster,” he said.

“So she would like, touch him up and say ‘Oh Mr. Trump, oh Mr. Trump, you look fantastic.’”

Waititi also said that Trump demanded that the camera be adjusted to a certain angle that would make him look thinner, and required that the “pantone of orange” makeup he wears was also kept up.

+1 on salt water gargle. Been using this since I was old enough to gargle and not accidentally swallow it. Wonder cure for a sore throat.

When I first got reflux my main Dr told me to get a box of Smith Brothers black licorice cough drops and suck on a couple of them. They a specialist told me instead of Smith Brothers drops buy a bottle of Brioschi, put a capful in a glass, add cold water and drink it down while it fizzed. Wouldn’t be 30 seconds after drinking it and I had a large burp that shut down the reflux.

Brioschi also shut down hiccups.

From my own experience, it sounds like you’re treating it optimally as is. If it’s from acid reflux, the best thing might be to guzzle antacid (like Maalox or Mylanta), then soothe your throat with a nice honey-laden tea (peach sounds fine: just don’t drink anything too citrus-y)

Federal worker charged with taking bribes from Matt Gaetz’s convicted trafficker pal

A Florida woman who worked in the federal Small Business Administration has been charged with bribery as part of an alleged scheme she struck with Joel Greenberg, the former county tax officer and friend of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), who is currently serving a prison term for sex trafficking, reported the Orlando Sentinel.

According to federal prosecutors, wrote Martin E. Comas, Angela Chew “helped convicted Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenberg and one of his associates submit and process fraudulent federal loan applications meant to help small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. In return, [Chew], who worked as a loan specialist for the federal Small Business Administration, received $3,000 in kickbacks from Greenberg in mid-2020 — just weeks after he resigned from public office, according to the grand jury indictment released Nov. 8.”

“As an SBA employee, Chew was considered a public official and charged with taking a bribe on behalf of herself, according to the court document,” the report continued.

Chew faces 11 charges that could come with a maximum of 15 years in prison if she is convicted on all counts.

Greenberg pleaded guilty in 2021 to sex trafficking of a child, production of a false document, aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, stalking and conspiracy to commit an offense against the U.S. — as part of a federal investigation that looked into his escapades with Gaetz. The two of them allegedly shared suspicious Venmo payments, and prosecutors investigated whether Gaetz participated in a scheme to traffic an underage girl across state lines.

Gaetz, a supporter of former President Donald Trump, was ultimately not charged with any offense himself but wasn’t exonerated by the Justice Department. Gaetz asked for a pre-emptive pardon from then chief of staff Mark Meadows for the sex trafficking scandal, the Washington Post claimed. The House Ethics Committee is still investigating Gaetz, however. Greenberg is now serving an 11-year prison sentence.

Well, you were pretty much saying that gdf was speaking of all Israelis when I, and likely others here, grokked he was speaking of the Israeli government (at various points in history) when he said what he said, before you gave him both barrels with the antisemitism charge.

I like and respect you both, but I’m done with this in this thread… I’ve got stuff to do before a $11000 HVAC package unit replacement in the morning (my wallet and credit score are already crying).

Yikes indeed: I lost my best friend a dozen years ago (WAY untimely) to an appendix issue. Hopefully, Colbert is having serious medical attention paid to it….

My closest friend at work died of a ruptured appendix in July 2020. I was practically hysterical with grief, it was so sudden. Since it was during the height of COVID, going to the funeral (across the country) was out of the question.
