Rush Limbaugh Calls Georgetown Law Student a ‘Slut’ and ‘Prostitute’

What right wing misogyny?
Wingnuts • Views: 45,322

Female law student Sandra Fluke, who was prevented from testifying at Darrell Issa’s anti-birth control hearing recently, spoke to a Democrat-sponsored hearing last week about the importance of reproductive health care for women, and the cost of contraception coverage.

Her testimony has provoked some shockingly ugly hatred from right wingers; for example, this unbelievably crazy piece we wrote about yesterday: Right Wing Jaw-Dropper: ‘Sex-Crazed Co-Eds Going Broke Buying Birth Control’.

Rush Limbaugh, the true leader of the right, takes it another step into the gutter today, calling Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute.”

LIMBAUGH: What does it say about the college coed Susan [sic] Fluke, who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex? What does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex.

She’s having so much sex she can’t afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex. What does that make us? We’re the pimps.

The johns, that’s right. We would be the johns — no! We’re not the johns. Well — yeah, that’s right. Pimp’s not the right word.

OK, so, she’s not a slut. She’s round-heeled. I take it back.

I would have thought Rush would sympathize with someone over the high cost of pharmaceutical drugs.

Nah. He can afford them.

But he probably knows a thing or two or three about prostitutes, now that you mention it.

Limbaugh was detained for more than three hours Monday at the airport after returning from a vacation in the Dominican Republic. Customs officials found the Viagra in his luggage but his name was not on the prescription, said Paul Miller, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

re: #19 Sergey Romanov

For now, Limbaugh is joking about his brush with the law. He joked about the search on his radio show Tuesday, saying Customs officials didn't believe him when he said he got the pills at the Clinton Library and he was told they were blue M&Ms. He later added, chuckling: "I had a great time in the Dominican Republic. Wish I could tell you about it."

Go fuck yourself, Rush. I don't fucking care that you're an "entertainer" or a "showman" or that your job is to "stir things up." I know you're just playing this game to be offensive and to outrage people. You're a monster and I hope your legacy reflects that.

No shit. Let me just mention here that the stalkers have honoured me with my very own defintion on Urban Dictionary:

Iceweasel 2091 up, 35 down
A smarmy prostitute from New York.

porch manque 45 up, 366 down
1. (n) A soi-distant 'conservative' blogger, neo-confederate, and racist who thinks it's the height of hilarity to use racist and ethnic slurs.

2. (n) A racist wingnut blogger and bigot.

3. (n) Any racist that lies and obfuscates when called out for racism.

Rush: Who's Really Dividing Us on Social Issues? It's Obama

RUSH: So here's a guy, Senator from Illinois, going after evangelical leaders, and at every opportunity they've told evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church. Now, who is it that really disrespects their values and dislikes their church? It's Obama, the Democrats. Is there any doubt? Anybody want to argue with me about this? It's inarguable. If there's a political organization that hates the church and its values, dislikes the church and its values, it's the Democrat Party. It's Barack Hussein Obama. And what does he say here, that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion, gay marriage, school prayer, intelligent design. Who actually cares about those issues? Who is it that's undermining all of that? Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrats. It's not Rick Santorum, and it's not Newt Gingrich.

Who is it that sponsors legislation that kills babies born alive? It's not Rick Santorum. It's not Newt Gingrich. Who is it that is driving us apart on religion? Barack Obama and the Democrat Party. Who is using religion to drive us apart even now? It's Barack Obama with this usurpation of power the Constitution does not grant him, to mandate that birth control pills be given free of charge by churches and their schools or insurance companies. You notice that as far as Obama's concerned the religious right care only about abortion, gay marriage, school prayer, intelligent design. Isn't that what they call projection? Isn't that all the church of liberalism is concerned about? They're haunted by these things.

All of those things that Obama mentioned, the left hates. They consider them obstacles. The left is making sure there's free access to abortion. They champion gay marriage. They ban school prayer. They denounce anything that questions Darwinian evolution. They are the ones doing the attacking. These religious people are minding their own business, all of a sudden they get up, they hear this, and they defend. But it's like in an NFL game, the guy that gets the penalty flag for throwing a punch is always the guy, the second guy that does it, the retaliation. The initiator is never flagged. And it's the same thing here.

Our right to free speech makes that accountability voluntary, based on his own sense of shame. and so far any attempts to shame him (or other like him, such as Breitbart) just bounce off like bullets off of Superman.

The sad thing is that many of the people those a-holes target suffer from an overabundance of shame, so that even the slightest unfounded criticism causes them to curl up in the fetal position after firing people for no good reason.

Yep, because as much as we are loathe to admit it, the old hatreds and bigotries didn't die, they just went underground. What we're seeing now is the unearthing of a lot of noxious shit that's been bubbling under the surface for years. The GOP just picked the absolute worst time to unearth it for all to see and get a good whiff.

Things we were going to have to face sooner or later. Just means it's time for my generation of feminists (And civil rights activists in general) to do battle as our parents and grandparents did before us. Or, rather, to continue the battle they helped fight.

Although he was tough on communism, Buckley was soft on fascism. In a "Letter From Spain" for National Review (also unearthed by Krugman), he wrote:

General Franco is an authentic national hero. It is generally conceded that he above others had the combination of talents, the perseverance, and the sense of righteousness of his cause, that were required to wrest Spain from the hands of the visionaries, ideologues, Marxists and nihlistis that were imposing on her, in the thirties, a regime so grotesque as to do violence to the Spanish soul, to deny, even Spain's historical identity.

Because dumb asses don't like the association the Pill has with sex. This is why I don't get people who are economically conservative but are socially liberal, and often vote GOP. If they are this stupid about things like this, this blindly ignorant it makes me wonder how many things they get wrong when it come to the Economy.
Just look at what they get wrong about Reagan. Look at the Ryan's Plan, he is going to give old people $10k to find their own health care insurance. But what happens when the insurance say no. What happens when a women needs the pill for reasons other then birth control. The pill is more useful then maybe 10% of the other pills that are out their in the market.

Let me quote myself in 2005 quoting the National Review of the next decade:

"In the 60s [federalism] grew fat on segregation, taking up the states' rights argument for allowing jim crow to die in bed. The Tribune couldn't countenance the [1963] Birmingham bombings, but William Buckley's National Review, which would champion Barry Goldwater for president the following year, was able to. 'Let us gently say,' it said, 'the fiend who set off the bomb does not have the sympathy of the white population in the South; in fact, he set back the cause of the white people there so dramatically as to raise the question whether in fact the explosion was the act of a provocateur--of a Communist, or of a crazed Negro.' The magazine said some evidence supported this possibility.

"'And let it be said,' the National Review declared, 'that the convulsions that go on, and are bound to continue, have resulted from revolutionary assaults on the status quo, and a contempt for the law, which are traceable to the Supreme Court's manifest contempt for the settled traditions of Constitutional practice. Certainly it now appears that Birmingham's Negroes will never be content so long as the white population is free to be free.'

"Fourteen months later the National Review weighed in on the murders of Goodman, Schwerner, and Chaney in Mississippi. It noted that a federal grand jury in Neshoba County had returned indictments against local police officers. 'It is everyone's impression, including ours, that some, at least, of the Neshoba police are a crummy lot,' said the magazine airily. 'But we pause for reflection. Are "violation of the Civil Rights Act" and the even more tenuous "conspiracy to violate" going to become a catch-all charge by which the Federal Government can get its hands on nearly any citizen?'

"In the view of this conservatism, which has slowly taken over the country, the cure for jim crow was far worse than the disease."

Because I've met many "honorable" conservatives myself, and many engage in the same sort of misogyny and bass-ackwards thinking as Rush, they just have the good sense to do so behind closed doors, away from the ears of the womenfolk.

Just as overt racism has been making a comeback among these troglodytes, sexism and misogyny have come back out of the closet to play. There are still honorable conservatives out there, however almost none of them have the kind of media presence of El Rushbo and company.

On another topic, one of my pet peeves is the deliberate naming of the Democratic Party as the "Democrat Party." As soon as I hear anyone say "Democrat Party" or "Democrat Congressman" or "Democrat" anything, I stop listening to them. So I will tweak you gently, Charles, for being guilty of the same transgression in the first paragraph of this post:

Female law student Sandra Fluke, who was prevented from testifying at Darrell Issa’s anti-birth control hearing recently, spoke to a Democrat-sponsored hearing last week about the importance of reproductive health care for women, and the cost of contraception coverage.

Is this the 1950s?

Southerners, I think. My highly unscientific sampling suggests that it's a more mainstream description of female college students, for reasons which baffle me but apparently persist.

This is true even among the young and educated.

Okay, that makes sense...I didn't think giving her big breasted twins was going to work.

Hoops, rather than going expensive, go for something good and intimate...think back to your Napa days...a small restaurant that has a limited menu but excellent food. Try opentable.com or go post a request for suggestions on a site like chowhound...crowd-source the foodie population.

I found these places on a quick search...all in OKC.

Rococo
Coach House
Red Prime Steakhouse
Cheevers

I looked at all of them...Cheevers looks like the best menu, IMO...Coach house is most expensive if you just want to drop $200 on dinner. Never order Tilapia - it's basically a big freshwater aquarium fish, like a giant Cichlid.

Steakhouses are great if you want to show off how much you can eat...but you're in Oklahoma...a big fuckin' steak is as common as cowboy boots.

French Laundry would be good...look for something along the same lines where you live...atmosphere > price. You want to feel comfortable and relaxed...if she gets sticker-shock looking at the menu, that's not good. Even if money isn't an object. Save the expensive place for date #3 or 4.

Try Bouchon, half the price and you can get a table. Still pretty freaking pricey and off the hook.

You need at least 3 months to get a table at French Laundry.

Tons of good places in Napa...but Hoops is in Oklahoma right now. I like Bouchon...Cindy's Backstreet in St. Helena is also good, but my favorite place there is Tra Vigne...their minute-mozzarella is to die for. Made to order, warm, and served with toasted garlic crostini...fucking heaven.

re: #160 Daniel Ballard It's not just the cost of the pills themselves, you have to see a doctor and have bloodwork,a gyno exam and the basic physical type stuff done in order to get the prescription. If you have medical issues like endometriosis etc, your health needs to be much more closely monitored as well, which means going to the doctor even more often.

re: #160 Daniel Ballard

It doesn't. The claim was that for one woman, who took it for a medical condition, it would cost $3,000 for the whole three years of law school. So, $1000 a year.

They cost at most $50 a month for most people, so she must have some hormonal thing where she needs a double dose to treat whatever she's got.

Beat me to the punch, Mom.

As a veteran of the D.C. wars, I can tell you that things seem to be more expensive there than in most places. The meal tax at restaurants is 11%.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were true that the $20-50 per month for birth control that's been quoted was, in D.C., more toward $50 than toward $20.

Going through their early years screwing everything in sight and then having the nerve to call women "sluts" or "prostitutes" when they engage in similar behavior.
