If it’s not too late, freeze it and add it to unadulterated hamburger (probably more than one meal unless you’re feeding an army).

FOX News Channel now being sued for racial discrimination on top of their sexual harassment lawsuits:

wonkette.com (as always, NSFW, more at the link)

According to the plaintiffs’ attorneys, Slater demanded that black employees hold “arm wrestling matches’” with white female employees in her office, just down the hall from Ailes’s office on the 2nd floor of Fox headquarters. “Forcing a black woman employee to ‘fight’ for the amusement and pleasure of her white superiors is horrifying. This highly offensive and humiliating act is reminiscent of Jim Crow era battle royals,” the letter says, referring to the practice of paying black men to fight blindfolded at carnivals for white spectators’ entertainment. The lawyers argue that [Slater’s boss, director of accounting Tammy] Efinger bragged about wanting to “fight” a black employee.

HappyWarrior  Apr 25, 2017 • 5:50:16am

You know what I love though? Black people need to get over slavery and Jim Crow but Southerners never need to get over that the CSA was a complete failure and the Civil War cost American lives. The Army of Northern Virginia no exaggeration was responsible for thousands of American deaths. I’m definitely not saying one should fly an ISIS or Nazi flag but why is flying a CSA flag socially acceptable at all? And the only reason why the CSA flag itself made a comeback is because Southern governments in the 50’s and 60’s wanted to intimidate the Civil Rights movement. It’s never been about heritage. It’s always been about justifying white supremacy. From about 1877(official end of Reconstruction)to 1954(the year Brown v Board was decided), the CSA flag did not have a place in Southern life.

39
HappyWarrior  Apr 25, 2017 • 5:58:00am

I mean I get hearing those stories about how your great or great great grandpa fought with Lee till the end but you know what, he still did technically commit treason and yet most of the people who I know who wave CSA flags and talk about CSA “heritage” are the same ones who love to cast questions about the left’s love of this country. I’ve never celebrated any group that took up arms against the US. I in fact have a tattoo dedicated to a brigade of primarily Irish immigrants who have fought for this country and I’ve had family serve the US military in some shape or form since the War of 1812. Do I wear a flag lapin or flag on my house? No but I love my country. I see my country as great but one that could even be ebtter. That’s patriotism.

True. Even if it was about “heritage”, that wouldn’t justify the celebration of traitors, racists and slavery proponents. There is no reason to celebrate all aspects of one’s heritage — especially on public property.

Oh, those monuments matter, just not in the way this nitwit thinks.

They’re a monument to historical racial discrimination and honors those who fought an insurrection against the federal government all to preserve the institution of slavery, and once that was over, then fought to install a scheme so that minorities were subjugated - Jim Crow.

To this day, these people are still trying to subjugate minorities and keep the uppity folks (women, minorities, etc.) in their “place.”

By all means. And you know what, Southerners like to talk about their pride. But what about us with Army of the Potomac ancestors? Why is Great Great Grandpa who fought for the Army of Northern Virginia a noble warrior whereas Great Great Grandpa who fought for the Army of the Potomac just a pawn of Lincoln. I have no illusions. My second great grandfather was very likely not an abolitionist, nor did he probably care too much for the plight of slaves, or definitely shared my 21st century views on racial equality but the man, a German immigrant no less still enlisted for his adopted coutnry in her darkest hour.

Honestly, how can one have heritage in something that barely lasted four years? And most of the time the people of the CSA were desperate for food. The only people who really benefited from the CSA were the planter elite. The CSA was pretty much an oligarchy with a lot of feudal characteristics. It really is too bad that poor white Southerners never realized their common lot with the slaves and overthrew the planter hierahcy.

Indeed, they even admit in their documents that it was about slavery. It only became after slavery became pretty much universally unacceptable that it started becoming about “taxes” and “states rights.” And I’ll remind CSA fans again that 9/13 of the CSA states actually seceded while Buchanan was President which is why it’s absurd to call Lincoln the aggressor.

What’s interesting about this photo, among other things, is the module latched behind the conning tower.

That’s a dry deck shelter, and it’s designed to allow divers (aka SEALs) access to a submarine while submerged.

Here, it’s so that the US could send the sub to an area close to enemy territory and launch the SEALs unnoticed where they could then infiltrate enemy territory to carry out their mission.

Celebrate that Virginians have contributed to serving this country from Washington to this very day. But yeah I hate that too and i always was so confused by Lee-Jackson-King Day as a kid. Yep. But the latter point went to the very core of the slavery-based Southern society. The existence of a race-based Designated Underclass (and one regarded as only “technically” human under the legal and social structures of that society) was universally praised by Southerners as providing a better and more-secure underpinning for true democracy: i.e. by ensuring that even the poorest white man was officially recognized as a member of the “superior” race, all whites, rich or poor, would have a deeper stake in the system. ( seriously, they made this argument all the time).
The sad thing is, this attitude has never gone completely away in American society.

Duluthians & the Civil War

..When the call to arms came in 1861, only the fringe of St. Louis County had been settled, and the inhabitants of the few little hamlets of the North Shore were denied the patiotic urge that in later wars swept most of the full-blooded and right-minded young men into the military forces. There was no chance of organizing a Duluth battalion in 1861; nor even a company. The patriots of that outpost of civilization who felt the military “urge,” who felt a patriotic desire to strike with the federal forces at the section which refused governance by the principles of liberty to all, had to warm their patriotism by stern and long-sustained resolution. They had to depart singly, at their own expense, and in some cases go long distances before they could reach the place where they could enlist. And then, to an extent, they were among strangers.

Oh, I know. And yeah it continues to this day.

Yep, my Georgia born U.S history professor at NVCC made that a reoccuring theme. Professor Reed was a great professor. Liberal minded, fair, and had great lectures. I ended up using him as a reference when I transferred to GMU. I hope he still teaches.

I took a Civil War & Reconstruction history class my semester in college. Wasn’t required, but I was paying for full-time and the amount was the same regardless of whether I took 12 credits or 18.

It was helpful, having grown up in Virginia and heard the “it wasn’t just about slavery” shit for two decades, to actually learn about the basis of the War and primary documents, etc.

Yeah when Alexander Stephens, VP of the CSA no less says it was about slavery, it was about slavery. I really think the reason why the stopped admitting it was about slavery is because slavery was just completely unacceptable by the end of the 19th century but Jubal Early and the Lost Causers needed to make Lee and Jackson look like noble knights.

Even more basic than that - the articles of secession by several states explicitly stated that preserving the institution of slavery was central to their action.

For instance, in South Carolina directly mentions slavery as a key reason for seceding - and uses the term 18 times to bolster its case.

Meanwhile, here in Europe:

The Council of Europe has voted to reopen its monitoring procedure against Turkey. The decision deals another potentially fatal blow to Ankara’s EU membership hopes, as exiting the process was made a precondition of negotiations back in 2004.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) voted earlier today (25 April) in favour of restarting its monitoring of Turkey’s respect for fundamental freedoms, which concluded in 2004. 113 of the assembly’s lawmakers voted in favour, 45 against and 12 abstained.

Predictably, the Turkish government is severely butthurt at this development:

After today’s vote, the Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement that it “strongly condemns this unjust decision of PACE taken with political motives in contravention to the established procedures”.

The ministry is headed by Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu who, ironically, was PACE president between 2010 and 2012.

The ministry also warned that the decision, which “will serve terror organisations”, “leaves no choice to Turkey but to reconsider its relations with PACE”. Turkey was one of the first countries to join the Council of Europe when it was established in 1949.

Stewart on New Orleans’ Statue Removal: “They Will Not Stop with Lee and Beauregard”

Woodbridge, VA - Republican gubernatorial candidate Corey Stewart released a statement on the removal of confederate monuments deemed “racist” in New Orleans.

“The removal of these historical monuments is nothing less than the blatant destruction of U.S. history,” Stewart said. “This is what happens when weak-chinned Republicans refuse to stand up to the tyrannical political correctness on the left.”

“Democrats in New Orleans are destroying history today, just like they’re trying to in Charlottesville. This will not stop with Robert E. Lee or P. G. T. Beauregard. Next, they will tear down statues of Washington and Jefferson.”

He sent out a similar e-mail yesterday defending one of his supporters flying a Confederate Flag at Shad Planking, a statewide bipartisan political event.

Pretty explicit threat there.
That’s one of the listed modifications for the few Ohio class boats that were converted from ballistic missile subs to launchers that accommodate 150 new cruise missiles, or a mix of MALD (radar defeating jet drones) and a few tubes set aside for special forces with lockout as the photo shows. I don’t know how often it carries that extra module. That sub is very quiet. designed to silently patrol or deploy SEAL teams.

The Dry Deck Shelter seen in images mounted on the USS Michigan is not capable of transporting the Advance SEAL Delivery System depicted in the image you posted. The ASDS is mounted similarly and instead of a DDS.
The DDS seen on the Michigan can carry smaller, less technically capable SEAL Delivery Vehicle. It may simply carry a number of Zodiacs, or other stored equipment. It may even be transporting a experimental Unmanned Undersea Vessel.

Flynn’s flam is wearing real thin. The DOJ has to start handing down indictments here, but I seriously concerned that Sessions wont act because he’s running interference for Trump (and Trump also got the federal prosecutors to resign, meaning that there’s no one to take on cases on their own independently).

All the while, the GOP continues to enable Trump, and that makes them complicit in the criminal enterprise Trump’s running.

Of course, Trump’s supporters find absolutely nothing wrong with any of this, and are buying Trump’s lies and lines about how he’s the one who’s shaking things up and this is the Establishment’s revenge.

Right-O. The Establishment was the one who set up all Trump cronies with Russian contacts that they then lied about (some engaging in perjury)? The Establishment was the one who revised the GOP Platform to make it very Russia friendly?

Yep. I kept trying to find a set of books to read to get him hooked, and those were it. Not only did those get him to read, but he started reading about other religions and mythologies beyond Greek and Roman. He’s also moved beyond reading those (Dorian Grey for example), but those got him hooked.

And any books, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Lemony Snicket, Junie B. Jones, that will get kids to love to read are great books for that reason alone.

I personally think Obama was reluctant to use EOs because he felt and I agree with him that Congress is the best way to impact long lasting change. It’s why I think he pushed for DADT to be repealed via Congress rather than an EO which would have been within his power as POTUS.

My brother and I got into a heated FB exchange over the following, which I thought perfectly illustrated why Bernie would have been a crappy candidate and even crappier president:
Bernie: “I think America should get a pony.”

Hillary: “How will you pay for the pony? Where will the pony come from? How will you get Congress to agree to the pony?”

Bernie: “Hillary thinks America doesn’t deserve a pony.”

Bernie Supporters: “Hilary hates ponies!”

Hillary: “Actually, I love ponies.”

Bernie Supporters: “She changed her position on ponies! ‪#‎WhichHillary‬ ‪#‎WitchHillary‬”

Debate Moderator: “Hillary, how do you feel when people say you lie about ponies?”

You have to go back to Grant to find a two term president that issued fewer, and you have to go to Cleveland and McKinley to find two consecutive four year terms that were fewer: presidency.ucsb.edu.

Free and affordable tuition for all is an admirable goal but what happens when Congress says no. It’s an admirable idea but I do think it had some flaws too. I personally think there needs to be more help getting people to college in the first place which is why I am glad to see that Perriello supports affordable community college and trade school, there also eeds to be help to students with disabilities, and finally there needs to be help to people once they get on teh job market. That’s why I say despite its rhetoric, the Sanders campaign wasn’t that inclusive. The free tuition would have benefited the kids already in college.

Not just mistakes. Actively lying and trying to game the outcome so his dumbass supporters have yet another bullshit talking point.

The National Archives maintains an official list of all EOs issued by every president since Hoover.

Everything is in sequential order.

Donald J. Trump (2017-Present)
EOs 13765 - 13767 | Subject Index

Barack Obama (2009-2017)
EOs 13489 - 13764 | Subject Index

George W. Bush (2001-2009)
EOs 13198-13488 | Subject Index

William J. Clinton (1993-2001)
EOs 12834-13197 | Subject Index

George Bush (1989-1993)
EOs 12668-12833

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989)
EOs 12287-12667

Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
EOs 11967-12286

Gerald R. Ford (1974-1977)
EOs 11798-11966

Richard Nixon (1969-1974)
EOs 11452-11797

Lyndon B. Johnson (1963-1969)
EOs 11128-11451

John F. Kennedy (1961-1963)
EOs 10914-11127

Dwight D. Eisenhower (1953-1961)
EOs 10432-10913

Harry S. Truman (1945-1953)
EOs 9538-10431

Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933-1945)
EOs 6071-9537

Within each president’s list, you can figure out how many were signed in each year (FDR had 573 signed in 1933 alone). Going over to the FDR library, you can find that broken down even more than that:

5971-6070, December 14, 1932 - March 3, 1933 View Online
6301-6106, March 8, 1933 - April 10, 1933 View Online

Trump and his people are spectacularly incompetent. Awful. They would fail basic civics or any basic research-related coursework.

They’re not just lazy, but they’re incompetent and don’t care. Their supporters don’t care either.

It took all of 5 minutes to find that their FDR figures were total bullshit.

Of course, that’s just raw numbers; what the EOs represent are something different entirely.

Yeah. I’m very careful about what I post to FB. My close friends and family all know where I stand.

The majority of my friends list is from back when it was college-only, invitation-only and friending everyone you were even slightly acquainted with was cool. I should trim it down, but I used to use lists to manage things. FB doesn’t like that though and keeps making it harder to scroll back in time to catch up when I want to, so I might need to trim things back or curate a lot.

FB really gets mad if you don’t look at it regularly and pops up all sorts of notifications on the phone. I’d stop bothering with it except it’s one of the places you need to have a presence when it comes to small business marketing type stuff so…

My sister owns a business and has to keep a FB profile in order to be the administrator of her business profile. But she’s had to hide many friends and family, and changed her name to a nickname so it is not so easily associated with her business for those who may go looking. So I understand the need to keep a presence.

Another reason for me is that I live in a small-ish town (300K - I know there are many towns that are much smaller, but as a former resident of Dallas, Austin and Houston, this place is small to me) and worried that my FB presence might limit my job opportunities if people were to find a post that identified my political leanings. Caving on his demand.

It wasn’t so much a cave as vaporware. He never had any way to pay for any of this, and he’s just throwing bullshit figures out hoping something would stick. That’s not how budgets are done, and the GOP are incompetent when it comes to budget math as it is; they have bigger priorities - like trying to keep them from shutting down the government when they’re in complete control of the entire process.

Trump’s demands wont make any of the budget math easier.

In fact, Trump’s demands would blow up the deficit and shut things down, which would be bad - and past Trump would tweet at current Trump that he’d be on the hook for it (but as with everything else, all Trump statements have expiration dates), and the wall budgeting expiration date is that it wont be an actual wall, it wont be on the actual border, and it wont be paid for by Mexico (and that’s just for starters).

“This bill specifies that, since Confederate monuments do not represent any existing government, no desecration of said monuments shall be prosecuted as against the law and are covered as free speech under the first amendment.”

That reminds me of how Benjamin Butler, a general justified not giving escaped slaves back to slaveowners in the CSA. “They don’t recognize the law of the Untied Sates so therefore I feel no need to follow the law that says to return escaped slaves.”

re: #267 Flying Squirrel Girl

One of the reasons I first deactivated and then deleted my FB account. Couldn’t stand the willful obtuseness from him and many other family members and friends. Some days I think I’m better off without FB, other days I think I should have kept FB and gotten rid of the asshole family/friends.

I immediately delete all political posts, and block people who persist.

To me, FB is for finding out where your friends are hanging, stupid pet jokes and videos, kiddie and vacation photos.

Measly 1 billion

Again, The Wall is all about the symbolic value: our resolve to Keep America Pure. As was the Muslim Ban, while the invoice he presented Germany for NATO was also a symbol of our resolve to Spend Shitloads of Money on Stuff We Don’t Need While Ignoring Pressing Issues That Negatively Affect Our Population and the World.
