President Bush has arrived in Poland, and is warning France and Germany not to punish the Poles for supporting the Iraq War.
But in an interview with Polish television aired just before he arrived, Bush warned European powers not to punish Poland for its stance on Iraq.
“I think it’s unfortunate that some of the countries in Europe will try to bully Poland for standing up for what you think — what they think is right,” Bush told TVP.
“And I’m going to say in my speech, Poland needs to be in the EU and Poland can be a friend of the United States and the two are not in conflict.”
At Auschwitz, where barbed wire, preserved barracks and crumbling gas chambers serve as a haunting memorial to Nazi victims, Bush will lay a wreath in an event designed to suggest parallels to his own campaign against “evil” terrorism.
The G8 conference at Evian promises to be very interesting indeed. Bush will spend only 24 hours there before departing for the Middle East, and the Axis of Weasels will have a very small window of opportunity to get in their anti-American licks.
