Charismatic, the Derby and Preakness winner in 1999, came up lame after the Belmont Stakes while going for the Triple Crown. The jockey Chris Antley immediately jumped off him, held his leg up saving that horse’s life, and Charismatic lived another 17 years. Unfortunately, Antley died of a drug overdose the following year.
