Iran Moves Into Retreat Phase
Mohamed ElBaradei, the Egyptian head of the United Nations’ stunningly ineffectual International Atomic Energy Agency, says that despite all the evidence and the clarion call of common sense, he just can’t bring himself to say that the Iranian mullahs have a nuclear weapons program. He has to be fair. The jury’s still out. They could just be looking for a new way to boil water for tea. UN Nuclear Head Can’t Rule Out Iran A-Bomb Program.
Speaking to a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee on the Middle East and Central Asia, Mohamed ElBaradei was asked if Iran had begun the process of building a nuclear weapon.
“We have not yet seen that, but I am not excluding that possibility,” said ElBaradei, the head of the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency. “The jury’s still out.”
ElBaradei said the IAEA had to be cautious about what it said regarding a country’s potential nuclear arsenal.
“Our statements can make the difference between war and peace. That’s why we have to be careful,” he said.
Got that? It’s not Iranian nuclear weapons that make a difference between war and peace. It’s Mohamed ElBaradei’s words.
