A senior “strategist” for moveon.org (how much “strategy” does it take to spout “Bush = Hitler”?) is now employed by the John Effin’ Kerry campaign: MoveOn staffer moves on to Kerry campaign. (Hat tip: black_flag.)

WASHINGTON — A senior strategist for MoveOn, a liberal activist group, is joining John Kerry’s Democratic presidential campaign. Zack Exley will direct Kerry’s online organizing.

Republicans said the move raises more questions about whether Kerry’s campaign is illegally coordinating activities with outside groups. Those groups are supporting Kerry with unregulated “soft money” that political committees such as Kerry’s are banned from using in federal elections.

President Bush’s campaign last week asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate the relationship between the Kerry campaign and anti-Bush groups such as MoveOn. All deny wrongdoing.

MoveOn said Exley and his former colleagues will avoid contact. However, Republican Party Chairman Ed Gillespie said the law bars anyone working for an outside political group from conveying strategic plans to the campaign. “It’s virtually impossible for him not to violate the law unless he has a lobotomy,” he said.
