Gaza Disengagement Plan Rejected
Ariel Sharon’s plan to pull put of Gaza is apparently being rejected by Likud party members.
Telephone surveys of Likud members published as the polling stations closed following Sunday’s referendum of party voters showed a resounding defeat for Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s disengagement plan.
Channel 1’s survey found 62 percent of Likud members voted against the proposal, while just 38 percent voted in favor.
An Israel Radio poll found 59 percent of registered voters opposed the plan, while 40 percent supported it.
A Channel 10 poll found that 58 percent of Likud members voted against disengagement plan while 42 percent voted in favor.
Channel 2 offered the most optimistic result for Sharon with 56 percent voting against the withdrawal plan and 44 percent voting in favor.
