Here’s an interesting column by Bob McManus on the “Boyd Cycle,” and what it tells us about the battle against radical Islam: Turning the Tables.

Nick Berg’s beheading ricocheted around the Internet yesterday, as it was meant to, in ostensible retaliation for the outrages at Abu Ghraib prison - themselves digitized weapons in the ongoing information war.

The murder was itself asymmetrical - so disproportionately horrible compared to the prison photos that only a madman would hold them remotely comparable.

So it would be appropriate at this time to flood the Internet with images of Saddam’s depredations - of which the United States possesses in the tens of thousands.

Abu Ghraib was bad when it was controlled by cretins wearing U.S. Army uniforms. It was horrible beyond description when real torturers ran it for Saddam Hussein.

Does anybody think America would lose that information battle?

In the end, of course, the real enemy in the War on Terror is a madness that at the moment of murder shouts “Allahu Akbar”-“God is great.”

There is no reasoning with radical Islam. All that can be done is to reduce it to a state where it no longer poses a threat to the United States or its interests in the world.

Of necessity, such a strategy would produce graphic pictures in abundance - enough, perhaps, to convince the radicals of the folly of making war on America?

Nick Berg’s murder needs to be the beginning of yet another Boyd Cycle, turning the enemy’s strength - America’s weak stomach - against him.

By all means, transmit shocking images - of dead al Qaeda terrorists, and the wreckage that will attend their defeat.

America will win, it if has the guts.
