Closing the Spigot
The flood of search requests for the snuff video of Nick Berg has not abated; if anything, it’s intensifying. I’ve got to do something to get this under control before it brings down our server again, so I’m putting in a redirect that will tell people coming from a search engine looking for the video that it is not available here, and let them choose whether to continue to LGF or go back to the search results page.
I have to do this because the page which is showing up in most search results now has over 700 comments and this is a lot of bandwidth getting eaten up.
UPDATE: The visitor count at upper left will still reflect all the hits from search engines, and the search terms will still appear on the Search Requests page. But searchers get a choice whether or not to proceed after being told the video isn’t here; this should at least cut down on bandwidth usage by people who only care about finding the video.
UPDATE: This little virtual checkpoint does indeed seem to be helping with the speed of LGF, at least from my office.
