Belgian police are warning that in addition to the Islamic terrorzoids arrested yesterday, there was a second cell preparing an attack in France: France Possible Target of Suspected Militants.

Police in Milan late Monday seized Rabei Osman Sayed Ahmed, known as “Mohamed the Egyptian” and suspected of playing a lead role in the March train bombings in Madrid, which killed 191 people. A second man was also detained.

Belgian police, acting on information from Italy, then arrested 15 people they said were preparing for an attack. “In the most likely event, the cell disbanded yesterday was ready to leave Brussels for Iraq to carry out suicide attacks,” the judicial source said.

“Reading the transcripts of the taped calls included in the investigation, it seems there was a second cell which was ready to take action on French territory,” he added. The source said the Milan prosecutor’s office had already passed on information to France’s anti-terrorism units.

Belgian prosecutor Daniel Bernard said Tuesday the prosecutor’s office had “received strong indications of the presence on Belgian territory of a group of foreign nationals who are suspected of being involved in a planned terrorist attack, likely against a foreign target, Belgian VRT television Web site said. …

Italian daily Corriere della Sera published excerpts from tapped telephone conversations in which Ahmed purportedly urged others to carry out suicide attacks and claimed responsibility for organizing the Madrid train bombings.

”We young people must be the first ones to sacrifice ourselves…because God puts us all to the test, he tires us out, he tests the faith of us all,“ Ahmed was quoted as saying. ”There is only one solution, to join al Qaeda.“

In another phrase, Ahmed was reported to have said: ”The attack in Madrid was a project of mine and those who died were my most dear friends.”
