Unregistered Comments: ENABLED

I’ve opened the gates to allow unregistered users to post comments, after leaving them shut most of yesterday. I must say, there’s a very noticeable decrease in random noise and drive-by Morlock incidents when the gates are closed. So noticeable that I’m thinking of making that the default state. Opinions?

So far we have 1,741 registrations, with 199 unconfirmed. When you register a username and password, an email is sent to the address you provided, containing simple instructions for confirming the registration. A number of people have let me know that the email didn’t get through to them; if you didn’t get yours, please make sure to check any Spam or Junk Mail folders. The confirmation email comes from regbot (at) littlegreenfootballs.com, so you can also try searching your email for that address.

If the confirmation email bounces because the address you supplied is not active, or the mailbox is full, or for any other reason, you’ll have to register with a different name. The moral of that story is: make sure the email address you give when you register will actually be able to receive the email.

If you’ve waited a while, checked all your Spam filters, your email account is functioning, but you still haven’t received the confirmation email, leave a comment here with your username and I’ll re-send the email.

Also, a few people have said they’re having trouble logging in from work locations; I believe this may be because of firewalls on office networks, because the LGF registration system does not remember specific IP addresses or browsers. The only information that matters is your username and password. If you are registered with that name and password, and you enter them correctly in the comment form, you’ll be able to post a comment unless a mysterious outside force is preventing you (see “firewalls” above).

Remember that your name and password are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as you gave them when you registered.

When you post a comment as a registered user, and the “Remember Me” button is checked in the comment form, a cookie will be sent to your browser containing your login information and it will show up automatically in the form next time you load it.
