Two Biased Headlines
Here are two headlines from al-Reuters news service that illustrate their appalling bias.
From June 29, describing the Hamas rocket attack on a kindergarten that murdered a four-year old boy: Palestinian Rocket Attack Kills Two Israelis.
Totally passive, non-descriptive, and impersonal.
Then, from this morning’s release about an Israeli raid to close down smuggling tunnels: Raiding Israeli Forces Kill Gaza Boy, Witnesses Say.
Not just “Israeli forces,” but “raiding Israeli forces,” actively “killing” a “Gaza boy.” And the story itself is laughably vague, relying on “witnesses” who always, always, always lie about these incidents.
RAFAH, Gaza Strip (Reuters) - Israeli forces shot dead a 9-year-old Palestinian boy playing soccer in a Gaza refugee camp on Thursday as tanks rolled in to search for tunnels used by militants, witnesses said.
“We were playing soccer when Israeli tanks … started firing inside the camp and toward us,” said Bashir Abu Jlidan, 18, a resident of Rafah refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip.
He said Omar Zara’an, 9, fell to the ground bleeding. Doctors at Rafah hospital pronounced the boy dead after trying to revive him.
The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the child’s death. It said Israeli forces were on a mission in Rafah, which borders Egypt, to root out tunnels militants use to smuggle in weapons or place explosives underneath army positions.
I know when tanks are rolling around my neighborhood, my first thought is always to get up a rousing game of soccer in the street. Oh, brother.
