Veterans Respond to Globe: “A Surprise False Article”
The Boston Globe’s Michael Kranish, who is also John F. Kerry’s biographer, wrote a hit piece for the Boston Globe claiming that one of the members of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth had repudiated his statements about Kerry.
Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are not backing down. They’ve posted an affidavit from Captain Elliott, saying that Kranish’s piece is a lie: Letter to TV Station Managers Regarding Captain Elliott.
UPDATE at 8/8/04 10:09:38 am:
LGF reader Model4 points out that right after Kranish’s role was exposed, the listing for the official Kerry-Edwards campaign book at the Public Affairs bookstore was sanitized to remove all mention of Michael Kranish:
And the listing at Amazon, to which we linked a few days ago when Kranish was featured prominently as the author of the book, has also had all mention of Kranish removed: Our Plan for America: Stronger at Home, Respected in the World.
So far they haven’t gotten to Barnes and Noble, where Kranish is still listed as the author. But if you want to see it, you’d better get over there fast.
Someone is trying to hide Kranish’s association with the Kerry campaign. And doing a very bad job of it.
UPDATE at 8/8/04 10:48:17 am:
The Boston Globe is sticking to its story (and whining about a “backlash” from “conservative radio programs and the Drudge Report website”), now claiming that the book listings at Public Affairs and Amazon were in error, and that Michael Kranish has “no connection” to the Kerry campaign: Veteran claims misquote on Kerry; Globe stands by its story. UPDATE at 8/8/04 11:10:17 am:
The book at the Barnes and Noble link above seems to have a different title than the Amazon listing, but please note that the ISBN number is the same; the Barnes and Noble listing seems to have been from an earlier phase in the release, when they were still finalizing release dates, titles, and cover designs.
But … is it plausible that the publisher would have gotten as far as a cover design that lists Kranish as the author of the introduction, based on a mistake?
