Our Friends the Germans
The son of a September 11 victim could not be silent in a German court today, as one of the defense lawyers for an Islamic terrorist smeared the United States outrageously: Clash Over ‘Torture’ Charge at German 9/11 Trial.
Defense lawyer Josef Graessle-Muenscher filed a motion to dismiss the case, saying the truth could not be established because it lay with al Qaeda figures in U.S. captivity who had probably been tortured.
“In this swamp of torture and prison camps, no court can ascertain the truth any more,” he said in a long intervention detailing alleged U.S. abuses of prisoners, especially at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.
American Dominic Puopolo, whose mother died on the first plane to hit the World Trade Center, said he found the argument “very offensive” and irrelevant to the case against Motassadeq.
“What I find troubling is this indictment of all our soldiers, our men and women in uniform. You’re desecrating the memories of 3,000 people who died, including my mother,” said Puopolo, 38, from Boston.
He said his mother, Sonia Morales Puopolo, would have turned 64 on Monday and “I’ve been thinking about her a lot.”
