Wacky Gadafi Issues Call to Academics
The dictator of Libya, whose name may start with G, Q, or K, and may contain any number of As, Ds, and occasional Hs, marked his 35th year of despotism with a huge celebration and a call for the US to abandon its outmoded governmental system: Revolutionary turned pragmatist, Kadhafi marks 35 years in power.
With the Republican party convention in full swing in New York, Kadhafi commented: “The United States, as a strong and influential country, should lead the way by abandoning its outdated multiparty system and becoming a Jamahiriya.”
He was referring to his constitutional brainchild in which power is supposed to rest with a system of people’s congresses right down to parish level.
Kadhafi said US politicians would not understand his call, which he said was directed at academics and intellectuals.
