Tue, Sep 14, 2004 at 4:21:34 pm PDT

Pssst. Lizardoids. You may want to watch Bill O’Reilly’s show on Fox News at 5pm (Pacific). I’m just sayin’, is all.

UPDATE at 9/14/04 5:00:40 pm:

(Pssst. I’m not currently allowed to exit my nitrogen-filled chamber beneath Denver International Airport, so I won’t be on the show in person. It will still be worth watching. Trust me.)

I just saw a great piece on Brit Hume's show with the other Johnson from Powerline. LGF was mentioned. Later in the show they showed the famous LGF memo overlay.

Forget about stabilization in Iraq, unless that territorial-demographic sewer is Secularized:
[Link: www.firmaspress.com...]

True, a despicable tyranny has disappeared. Also, as a result of the change of regime in Iraq, certain symptoms of prudence have been observed in terrorist states such as Syria, Libya and Iran, countries that have seen what big ears the wolf has. But the idea that it is possible to enthrone democracy in that part of the world is beginning to weaken in both Afghanistan and Iraq.

Quite simply, it is very difficult to induce peace and rational behavior in an unstructured culture where the authority to unleash violence is held by an imam entrenched in a mosque, ready to issue a fierce fatwah against whomever he deems an enemy of Islam.

Of course, the State Department is encouraging clerical participation in the one-time "democratic" processes in Iraq and Afghanistan. They are hardly promoting a stable, pro-American regime.

24 Melissa  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:30:54pm

Be careful, Charles. He's been in the tank for Rather so far, just like he was in the tank for Kerry over the Swiftvets. Don't let him beat you up. You have the facts on your side. CBS does not.

33 casey  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:34:04pm

Pretty please?

34 Lizard by the Bay  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:34:19pm

Agreed. O'Reilly is Fox's weakest link. He's the only guy that Michael Moore could get the better of on Fox, and yet still claims that he "trounced Moore" in their debate on his radio show. Plus, at least a third of the time, he is out there on issues. I remember for weeks how he tried to argue that lawyers shouldn't defend their clients if they believe they're guilty!! Hello, Bill? There's a reason we have defense attorneys in this country.

35 DP111  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:34:37pm

Unless I'm really missing something, here: The secretary's statements amount to a win for side that is claiming forgery. She said that 1) I didn't type these, 2) I did Killian's typing. (She says, more bluntly, "These aren't real.") O.k. Dan Rather attested that the documents were authentic; her testimony is that they *aren't* authentic. So, even if she or anyone else claims that the documents *reflect* the truth, new *documentary* evidence for those claims--which were the basis of CBS's story--has not been presented. The anti-Bush camp is left with no more than they had in 1999: claims by 1970s TANG staff that favoritism was shown to Bush; except, this time, the claimant's identity is not revealed. That's nada in terms of news.

Israel detains three UK Muslims

Three British Muslim women have been arrested and ordered to leave Israel, their lawyers tell the BBC.

The women say they came to the Middle East to support a legitimate charity working with Palestinian children in the occupied territories.

They say they have not been told why they were arrested, but are being targeted because they are Muslims.

The trio are not allowed to leave Jerusalem and must leave Israel by Monday, their lawyers said.

The women, all Muslims in their 20s, were allegedly held in a raid on their hotel in Jerusalem's old city involving 20 security personnel.

They have all now been released, and it is understood they face no charges.

I wonder if that "charity" is KinderUSA - Arraf and Shapiro's front group for ISM.

80 Melvin Frohike  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:52:24pm

#24 Melissa I agree don't trust O'Reilly, he didn't sound pleased on yesterday's show that Dan Rather's credibility was being questioned. BOR came out against the swiftboat veterans for truth. While O'Reilly hasn't come out and said it, it's clear to me that he's supporting Kerry. BOR has changed over the past year. I think he realizes that his audiance on cable won't ever be as large as it could be if he could get his show moved to one of the three big networks. The only way he could do that is to liberalize it.

Despite being a friend of Hannity and multiple appearances on Fox, Mark Levin on WABC was ripping O'Reilly. Seems Bill has been ragging on "right-wing" radio.

Mark is saying that Bill is upset because his radio ratings aren't good. Interesting...Rush was great on radio, didn't make it on TV...O'Reilly great on TV and now lagging on radio.

Anyway, I do think that O'Reilly has to recognize that conservatives on the Net and in radio are much more responsible and more accurate in fact-checking than the left. The notion that liberals and conservatives are equally guilty of the same sins, or are equally partisan is bogus. Most of the bomb-throwers on the left are radicals who espouse anti-Americanism, anti-Semitism, and racism. I don't see conservatives spouting that nonsense (except the Posse Commitatus and Aryan Nations, and they're not active in the GOP, unlike the far left groups which are welcome in the DNC).

Whatever, should be a good show. Sorry I gotta leave right now and watch it later....

92 Minnesota Lurker  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:54:29pm

How should Democratic challenger John Kerry (search) react to the memo flap? Democratic strategist Mary Anne Marsh weighs in

Accused child pornographer and singer R. Kelley (search) headlined a benefit concert for the Congressional Black Caucus, is this ridiculous? Rep. James Clyburn, member of the CBC, joins Bill.

HAMAS is invigorated by leftist dhimmi campaigns:
[Link: www.israelnn.com...]

How many lives have left-wing statements cost Israel? In a damning condemnation of the Israeli left, a new book about the battles known as the Oslo War quotes Hamas leaders saying that the behavior of Israel's left-wing encourages them to continue their terrorist attacks.

The book, "The Seventh War," by journalists Avi Yisacharov of Voice of Israel Radio and Amos Harel of Haaretz, is based on comprehensive investigations and interviews with Hamas terrorist leaders in Gaza and Israeli prisons.

Yisacharov told Channel 1 Television yesterday that Hamas leaders had told him clearly: "It was the Israeli left and your peace camp that ultimately encouraged us to continue with our suicide attacks."

Doesn't Bill O'Reilly have two guests for each debate, except (obviously) when he's doing a one-on-one interview? That list only lists one person per subject.

Maybe Charles will be debating Mary Anne Marsh?

109 evariste  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 2:59:31pm

Oh, OK :-) So it's just John Podhoretz after all :-)

On O'Reilly---->
Mud in the media. CBS has already lost the flap over memogate.
NYT doing the mud slamming game (paraphrase).
DNC is making a HUGE mistake by thinking the masses care about the Guard controversy.

Podhoretz now saying---- little green footballs has the smoking gun.....and goes on to say what Charles did the overlay that shows the memos are fake.

CBS duped not doing this on purpose (paraphrase)

"What if they don't believe little footballs?", asked O'Reilly. (not sure who ecactly "they" is)
LOL----"little footballs"--O'Reilly obvioulsy is not a web blogger.

Show went on the say that DNC is making a huge mistake with this, it is backfiring and CBS is doing the same by continuing to insist memos are real.

And then when I tried to post this the site was down.
Crashed by all the O'Reilly watchers logging in to the site?

Also, this site, of all the sites I visit, is the fastest and most reliable.

Just saw the CNN story. The lead-in (blogging background) was actually pretty "fair and balanced".

Then Paula Zahn talked to Instaman and a big cheese from FreeRepublic (sorry, can't remember his name). Good rundown of RatherGate [how do you do HTML superscripts?] and gracious mention of LGF - two netowrks in the sam e day - w00t!

Anyway, I was VERY surprised to see this angle on CNN. I really think the MSM are willing to throw CBS to the crocodiles to try to keep from being eaten last.

Okay I've been ranting and raving all evening.....when I can get on here.

Look at this from comments over at Wretchard's.

"
A CBS source stated today: My source familiar with the internal discussions at CBS describes the atmosphere at the network offices tonight as "madness" and "toxic".

I bet that's an understatement (LOL).

The real behind-the-scenes battle has the CBS Young Turk "Journalists" tag-teamed with the Finance Group (with copies of 100,000 e-mails to CB$ $ponsors threatening mass-revenue loss) unless this fiasco ends IMMEDIATELY.

Recall the "aborted-at-the-last-minute" 2003 Nuclear War between India and Pakistan ?

It ended (before it started) when "traitorous" Outsourcing U.S. Corporations DEMANDED that India's Military "shut-up and sit-down", or else all those millions of Outsourced U.S. jobs would get transferred ASAP to Eastern Europe.

Well, the same argument is being made at CBS right now.

Dan Rather's "business model" is obsolete, and CBS shareholders won't tolerate it for 60 seconds ... and are threatening to dump CBS stock for Fox News, if Dan Rather isn't muzzled.

Fox News is the best channel as gainst CNN, ABC, NBC, or BBC. The democratic forgery was bound to come apart someday.. But we did not expect it to happen this fast. There is an old saying "Truth Shall Prevail." Congrats Charlie. Keep up the good work. But we should never let down our guard. There is more to come. Just watch as the Democrats and their henchmen the islamofascists pull more rabbits (rather rats) from their hats to spike the winning Republican steamroller. But Kerry himself seems to be losing steam. His body language and tone is that of a tired man facing the prospect of defeat.

What Dan Rather did not only dishonored the profession of journalism, and I can think a few more journalists who have too starting with Walter Cronkite, it presents to the American people this reality: Here is the fourth estate trying to act like a fourth branch of government by allying with a certain political party in hopes of creating a Fifth Column. Simply pathetic.

I think it's time for regime change at CBS.

179 toni  Tue, Sep 14, 2004 7:05:14pm

i thought you did a great job tonight. You didn't look
nervous and you kept on subject. I've hosted morning talk shows on radio and tv since 1980, and you did good. i did have to laugh when bill said little footballs,
it should give you a lot of publicity. plus...all news outlets watch all the other news outlets to see whats going on (even though they would never admit it). we always taped all the other news outlets, every day.

ok...after several days of flipping between fox, cnn, msnbc, and the networks, i just had to watch something else. So ...i turned it to JAY LENO...his very first line hit the nail on the head. he said "i'm sure you've heard about the flap at C (PAUSE) BS...IT DID MAKE ME LAUGH.

FOX SPECIAL REPORT WITH BRIT HUME (18:20)
September 14, 2004 Tuesday
HEADLINE: Interview With Scott Johnson of Power Line blog

JONATHAN KLEIN, FMR. CBS NEWS EXECUTIVE: It's an important moment, because you couldn't have a starker contrast between the multiple layers of checks and balances, and a guy sitting in his living room in his pajamas writing what he thinks.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HUME: That is a moment from "THE O'REILLY FACTOR." Tony Snow hosting the other night. In which a former CBS News executive is being critical of those people who run their own web sites or blogs with names like Instapundit, Little Green Footballs, and Power Line. And where they say whatever they please, and post whatever responses and links to other such web sites they choose. These web loggers or bloggers, as they are called, are the ones who first sent up the alarm about those memos Dan Rather reported on "60 Minutes II" last week. The rest, as they say, is history.

So who are these guys and how do they operate? Women too. For answers, we turn to one of them, Scott Johnson, sponsor of the Power Line blog, which he does in Minneapolis.

Mr. Johnson, welcome...

HUME: So, what do you say to those like Mr. Klein and others who say look, you guys are just out there? You're independent actors, you don't have editors, you don't have checks and balances; you don't have the layers, as you heard Mr. Klein described it, of verification. And so you can't be trusted. What do you say to that?

JOHNSON: You know, I think that's -- it's a little bit funny to hear that in this context, where CBS, according to your guest of last Friday worked on a story for four years and produced these documents that are just obvious forgeries.

You know, Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs re-created that critical August 18 memo in a few minutes on the default settings of his Word -- Microsoft Word processing system after he read the post on our site. He posted that on his site so we could all take a look. By 10:30, you know, those documents looked like a joke. And yet, now here's CBS, five days later still in the middle of a Watergate-style stonewall. It's just incredible.

HUME: Well, but let me go back to this question. Clearly CBS has been -- has stubbed its toe here. But what about the charge that you guys are not subject to verification? How do you answer that? And is there indeed a form of verification in the response you get?

JOHNSON: Well, I think that's exactly right. The only people -- the only reason we have serious readers of the kind who engage with us on our site is that we have a track record of the past 2 1/2 years of putting up information, with links that readers can check out for themselves. And when we occasionally make mistakes, we instantaneously post corrections. There's no lumbering process of days and weeks where people arguing with us. If we make a mistake, we post information; we let readers take a look for themselves. That what we have to offer as to act as an honest broker of information. I think that's what we did in this case.

HUME: Well, it certainly is clear that you and the people at Little Green Footballs and other web sites as well, were factors in this equation.

Mr. Johnson, thank you very much for taking the time. Very interesting story you've told us.

JOHNSON: Thanks for having me, Brit.

You are not alone supporting your BBC 4th & 5th columns involuntarily.

Here in the US, in addition to the MSM/self-appointed fourth estate we also fund our own fifth column at taxpayer expense, which tries to align itself with Dems (wink wink, nod nod) and take down "W" and his evil NeoCon cohorts.

LLLs, ivory tower intellectuals and partisan apparatchiks ride our subsidized Public Broadcasting System (PBS) television and National Public Radio apparatus to influence, power & riches and feel proud they help take down presidents they don't like but enable & selectively report on candidates & presidents they prefer.

As Al Gore put it so well, its the People against the Powerful (PBS/LLL) only this time LGF fought them & won.
