Flip O’ The Day
AP Democratic operative Nedra Pickler has a piece titled Kerry Urges Against Partisan Feelings that employs a very subtle technique to hide Kerry’s very partisan attack against President Bush today:
APPLETON, Wis. - Presidential challenger John Kerry urged voters on Saturday not to allow the videotaped message from Osama bin Laden to stir up partisan feelings.
“As Americans we are absolutely united, all of us. There are no Democrats, there are no Republicans,” Kerry said. “As Americans we are united in our determination to destroy, capture, kill Osama bin Laden and all of the terrorists. They are barbarians, and we are going to hunt them down and we will make America safe.”
Kerry did not dwell on the new message from the al-Qaida leader, other than to repeat his charge that President Bush allowed bin Laden to escape in the Afghan mountains in late 2001. He concentrated his final weekend appeal on voters who have suffered under Bush’s economic and military leadership.
Notice: Kerry’s noble-sounding “no Democrats, no Republicans” soundbite is quoted accurately. But the attack on Bush is summed up and discounted in a paragraph that doesn’t quote Kerry’s exact words.
Because in truth, Kerry did urge against partisan feelings … before he urged for them.
