Maybe I’m just sensitive, but it seems to me like mainstream media is trying to give bloggers a little payback with headlines like these: ‘Blogs’ embarrassed by misleading poll data in US vote.

“The thing about blogs, of course, is that a hot story tends to spread exponentially, so by early evening, the early exit-poll results were all over the blogosphere,” said Steve Outing, a senior editor at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies.

But Outing said the new Internet bloggers showed they don’t have the same standards as traditional journalists.

“To astute media watchers, it should come as little surprise that the Internet supported an ‘information wants to be free’ philosophy on Election Day,” Outing said in a Web column.

“Bloggers, in particular, are loose cannons when it comes to information that established media seeks to control. Mostly independents with no corporate masters to abide — and often no traditional journalistic training or standards — bloggers cannot be expected to play by old media rules.”

Again for the record (since MSM is determined to smear all bloggers with this charge), at LGF we did not hype—or even report—those exit polls, although we had plenty of warning. I have never trusted exit polls, and with all the dirty tricks in this election I trusted them even less this time around. By the way, people, as far as I know at this point, there are no valid exit polls in existence. The numbers appearing at Daily Kos and Wonkette are sheer fantasy.
