A New Referrer Spammer in Town
There’s a new spammer script out there somewhere, that’s been hitting our referrers page relentlessly for the past couple of weeks. It fakes a referring page, usually with a name like best-deals-4u.info (with endless variations on these themes, but always with a .info domain), and if you click the link you go to one of a series of web sites peddling various sleazy items. This script is smart enough to use anonymous proxies and/or compromised “zombie” machines (servers that have been infected with a virus, a lot of which are in European/S. American countries), so it’s not easy to keep its garbage out; I have a filter that blocks most of the combinations of words in these fake referrers, but occasionally they still get through.
Do any of our techno-lizards know anything more about this nuisance?
