Undeserved Medal for Tenet
Tenet, Bremer, Franks get Presidential Medal, and this is a rare case where I agree with the Democrat view:
WASHINGTON — President Bush awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Tuesday to three figures who were central to his Iraq policy, former CIA Director George Tenet, former Iraq administrator L. Paul Bremer and retired Gen. Tommy Franks.
Democrats suggested Bush should have looked elsewhere, at least in the case of Tenet, in awarding the government’s highest civilian honor.
Tenet’s record of incompetence all through his years with the Clinton White House, during which he presided over the dumbing down of the CIA that resulted in numerous serious intelligence lapses, should have disqualified him. In this case, President Bush’s sense of loyalty seems to have trumped his judgment.
