ArabNews: Global Supremacy Pushing in Variant Forms

Trying to follow the bizarre twists and turns of this anti-American, pro-jihad piece in the Arab News may give you a headache, but it’s a revealing look at the “thinking” of the Saudi entity. The cognitive gymnastics begin with the title: A Global Supremacy Pushing in Variant Forms.

Dr. Mariam Al-Oraifi, an “academic” educated in Australia, informs us that there is no problem with Islamic fundamentalism and tyrant regimes in the Middle East. The real “monster behind Sept. 11” is … United States policies.

Today the world questions America’s approach to the region and insistence on global democracy. The international community disagrees with America’s self-appointed police role and guarantor of these natural rights. They believe that the only logical sponsor and guarantor of these natural rights is the UN. They want to see the UN strengthened, not weakened.

America’s claim to sponsorship of freedom, liberty and democracy has been the Sept. 11 attacks and the war on terrorism. But the monster behind Sept. 11 is neither Islamic fundamentalism nor tyrant regimes. It is simply an overdated and obsolete US policy that is meeting with popular resistance in the region.

The people in the region are not enemies of America but simply peace-loving citizens who have suffered and have decided to change their future. America should avoid meddling with the internal affairs of the Gulf states. Instead there should be an open dialogue with the people of the region on future energy problems and negotiations with oil producing countries in the Gulf and elsewhere to solve such problems.

Notice the incredible similarity between the disjointed ravings of this Saudi mouthpiece and the anti-American poses of our own academics, like Ward Churchill and Robert Jensen. The far left and the Islamic fanatics are on the same page.

The GOP’s Steve King Problem
Earlier this year, the Republican National Committee released a 100-page report detailing how the GOP needed to retrofit its agenda and soften its tone. But if Republican officials had wanted to save time, they could have issued a shorthand summary that read: Be less like Steve King. The Iowa congressman's outspoken conservatism embodies the kind of politics that, in the RNC's own words, alienates ...

Warning from history: As witnesses die, will the Holocaust be forgotten?
This was not a fun article to read, but I think it's important--necessary even. Sometimes almost nothing is known to tell the stories of lives that were not lived, except a name. As Yishai Szekely - a doctor who serves as a reserve officer in an artillery unit - explains, in some families first-hand memories are passed down. There are photographs or books and ...

Why people don’t believe science
Here's a fascinating article my iPad's news aggregator discovered for me this morning: The Science of Why We Don't Believe Science. It's a lot of things: identity, previous knowledge, fear and a pile of other factors. But we humans are more often rationalizing animals than rational ones.

President Barack Obama is expected to use his speech at the iconic Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday to renew calls for a reduction in nuclear weapons. It is not the first time the president has called for a reduction in stockpiles, but by addressing the issue in a major foreign speech, Obama is hoping to rekindle the issue, which was at the center of his ...

Jack Shafer: Snowden vs the Dragons
Reuters: But even the press in aggregate is not a friend to whistle-blowers, as its recent treatment of Snowden attests, what with the deep dives into his teen years (including photos), his education and employment history, his reputation as a loner and a “brainiac,” his pants-down hijinks, his online scribblings, his dancer girlfriend, his predilection for (in his own words) “post-coital Krispy Kremes.” Squeezing ...

Baker’s Graduation Cake Mix-Up Ends in Purr-fect Mistake
When Laura Gambrel, 22, of Zionsville, Ind., graduated from Indiana University in May, she wanted to keep the celebration pretty low key. She didn’t walk at the ceremony, nor did she have a party because she planned to go right back to the university this coming fall for grad school. It seemed only fitting then that the one thing her mother attempted to do ...

Study: Reading Fiction Makes People Comfortable With Ambiguity
Are you uncomfortable with ambiguity? It's a common condition, but a highly problematic one. The compulsion to quell that unease can inspire snap judgments, rigid thinking, and bad decision-making. Fortunately, new research suggests a simple antidote for this affliction: Read more literary fiction. A trio of University of Toronto scholars, led by psychologist Maja Djikic, report that people who have just read a short ...

 Frank says:

The family was from Arkansas. The Dad (Dink) was a furniture salesman in San Bernardino, but back in the way-back-when he used to play 'bones' or 'spoons' in a minstrel show. To relive the golden days of yesteryear he would, from time to time, force his children to accompany him (Ronnie on guitar, Kenny on trombone) in a living room replay of a minstrel routine called "Lazy Bones."

The kids often found this to be an inconvenience, as they were fascinated by, and constantly perfecting new techniques for, The Manly Art Of Fart-Burning. Kenny explained to me that it was scientific - that it demonstrated (this is a real quote) "Compression, ignition, combustion and exhaust." -- Kenny & Ronnie Williams (later immortalized in "Let's Make The Water Turn Black").
