 RetweetSaddam's Atrocities

Sat, Apr 30, 2005 at 4:08:36 pm PDT

US investigators at the most recently discovered mass grave in Iraq have exhumed 113 bodies so far—almost all of them women and children: 113 Kurds Are Found In Mass Grave. (Hat tip: jrdroll.)

BAGHDAD, April 29 — U.S. investigators have exhumed the remains of 113 people — all but five of them women, children or teenagers — from a mass grave in southern Iraq that may hold at least 1,500 victims of Saddam Hussein’s campaign against the Kurdish minority in the 1980s, U.S. and Iraqi officials said this week.

The recovered bodies are expected to be among the evidence used against the deposed Iraqi president by prosecutors at a special tribunal, investigators said.

The non-acidic soil at the grave site preserved layers and layers of distinctive Kurdish clothing worn by many of the victims, suggesting that they may have piled on their best clothes expecting to be relocated, investigators said.

Authorities showed reporters some of the remains, including the skull of an older woman with pink dentures and the skeleton of a teenage girl clutching a bag of possessions.

“These were not combatants,” said Gregg Nivala, a member of a U.S. team investigating crimes committed by Hussein’s government and assisting the tribunal. “These were women and children.”

See, if we had just avoided participating in this illegal war, Saddam never would have had this illegal "evidence" revealed against him. His rights were violated by this unconstitutional search!

Saddam's lawyers will say he had nothing to do with this, that he had no knowledge, that he had no control over his subordinates.

People that hate America will believe it.

These same people believe Bush had the spare time to give Lyndie England direct orders to make the human dog pile.

Chain of command only applies to American atrocities.

21 dhimmishelter  Sat, Apr 30, 2005 2:30:03pm

Saddam was a benevolent autocrat. He only killed hundreds of women and children potential combatants when necessary, which was quite often. It must have been the brave minutemen that mich-al al-moore refers to that slaughtered these females and their children. Likley the same who are bombing their countrymen today. Of course, Al-Moore's next X rated video (after fahrenheit 911) will suggest that Israelis and the US actually murdered these people.

Thank goodness and GWB that Saddam is gardening and awaiting trial while sitting in a cage.

"While the leftists evoke the name "Hitler" in every other breath as the epitome of evil, not a peep will be heard from them regarding the deposing of a similar madman.

The Left uses the term "Hitler" as a pejorative, so they use that name to insult an honest, legally-elected American leader who went to war to free a people from an evil tyrant who actually *was* like Hitler. But, since the Left is allied with Saddam, they don't dare call *him* Hitler, even though it actually fits him.

It's just more Moonbat Nation insults and non-logic. From now on expect every Republican president to be compared to Hitler. They might as well try idiocy like that; they have nothing else except recycled socialist rhetoric, which is why they are a minority party and likely to stay that way for a long time.

My first post here. Thanks, Charles, for opening up the registration.

Not to be missed, for those of you with a strong stomach: Rosie O'Donnell on Fox News, tonight, 10 pm EST. "At Large With Geraldo," and this time the name fits perfectly. The preview showed Rosie naming George W. Bush as a war criminal, among other things.

Rosie's going to be flogging her TV-movie, airing tomorrow night, called "Riding the Short Bus With My Sister."

Straining the bounds of credulity, Rosie is supposed to be the sister of Andie MacDowell. Talk about "stunt casting!" Those two could be sisters, like Ahnuld could be twins with Danny Devito.

Rosie plays a retarded girl in the movie, which isn't too much of a stretch, except to the outfits she'll be wearing. If I was retarded, I'd launch a protest, at such a demeaning portrayal of the mentally-challenged person's plight.

Many of us today have expressed our prayers and hopeful wishes for Beagle’s infant son. Who prayed for these Iraqi people and babies and all the others? The LLL’s didn’t, I’m sure. They are more concerned with the groupthink mindset that will make a political comparison to Abu Ghraib so that they can justify their “peace at any price” and America-bashing agenda.

I’ve thought long and hard about this war in Iraq. I watched all the lead up on TV since it began; I heard all the justifications about WMD, etc. And I still believe that in spite of the criticism of the reasons, and the cost in American lives, the right thing was done. Finally. It occurred to me Thursday (Saddam’s 68th birthday) that whatever happens to him, his days are numbered. I don’t personally care one way or another whether he receives the death penalty after his trial or not. Like my 89 year-old Pop says, “Nobody leaves this world alive”. I’m patient and can wait.

But if his regime had not been toppled, and he was left in power, the evil sons, Uday and Qusay would have eventually inherited his legacy. If anyone thinks Saddam was bad, just imagine what those two could have accomplished. So as far as I’m concerned, the WMD were found and destroyed. There is hope for Iraq. It is the perfect opportunity for us to separate the influence of Islam on Middle East societies from their political process. It may not happen in my lifetime, but I think that the U.S. has gone a long way to put conditions in place whereby it may. Time will tell.

Excellent point, LSD -- the Left's religious war against the West is far, far more important than mere mass-murder victims. But then, they proved that when they murdered a hundred million people for their religion last century.

In the great scheme of things, the idea that murder is wrong is a very, very recent Jewish invention. The world resents the hell out them for that.

69 grandma -- wait...I just typed "69 grandma." Not that there's anything wrong with that, if you're Bud Cort.

At the WH Press Dinner, Laura was in brilliant form. I have a renewed crush on her.

This was a roast, like all of these annual press dinners, but some people might take offense at a couple of Laura's comments. The jibes were nothing like the Friar's Club pillory, but they were a little spicy.

She compared her mother-in-law to "a rabid Nazi wolverine," in contrast to her usual image as an "Aunt Bee" of "Mayberry" fame. Said she was no more involved in her children's lives, than the "Texas Cheerleader Murdering Mom," from a few years back. This brought some raucous guffaws, most notably from the table occupied by "Hanoi Jane" Fonda and Richard "Lemmiwinks" Gere.

She shot a left-hook at her Pops-in-law, George Herbert Walker Bush, making sport of his irrational hatred of broccoli. This trait she contrasted with the vegetable-loving Governor Jeb Bush, with a joke some may consider tasteless: "What vegetable does Jeb Bush enjoy eating the most?" The answer was a wacky, ribald take on a recent national news blitz, involving a certain human in a vegetative state.

If that wasn't bad enough, for the sensitive types, she followed with an even more graphic gag, about the worst part of eating said vegetable being the need to replace the adult diaper, afterwards. This reporter booed lustily at this outrage, even as he stifled a guilty snigger. Is nothing sacred?

Laura's naughty irreverence, ribald and outrageous as it was, was a long-overdue breath of fresh air, in the current climate of stonewalling and frustration that obtains in the Beltway these days. Not even "Cedric the Entertainer's" revelation of being anally-probed in the Secret Service "pat-down," was able to cast a pall on the upbeat, nervous discomfiture that prevails between the White House and the press corps these days.

This night of mending-fences bodes well for the next couple of lame-duck years, as Bush will attempt to keep the lid on the bubbling scandals in his administration, and the press will keep trying to conceal their complicity with the pre-invasion Hussein thugocracy.

And if you think Bush is "doing well," right now, check the popularity polls. Or, look over the rising level of insurgency in Iraq. Yes, I know it's a "last-ditch, desperate effort" to derail the democracy. In fact, we've been hearing that for about 6 months. A year, maybe.

I'm 100% behind this administration's efforts, in the War. I'm not 100% sold, on the way the War is going in Iraq. I know that's rank heresy, around here. I've decided, this forum needs a little heresy.

For instance, on another front, Bush and the high-ranking Repubs need to cut Delay off, post-haste. He's an anchor, that will belay the viability of any second-term initiatives. He's a crooked man, who lives in a crooked house, on a crooked lane.

Given the bankruptcy and silliness of the Democrats these days, the GOP should be kicking ass and taking names. Instead, they're treading water, headed upstream, and making no headway. Quit kidding yourself!

Thanks LGF, for allowing to register. New to this.

After seeing this link and reading the story, had to email it to several people.

There are couple of things I find quite interesting about it.

First off, once again, the MSM does not seem to interested in this (typical).

Another item I find very interesting, is the fact that these were Kurds. My daughter, and several others in her reserve unit had served in As Samawah (the location that this mass grave is refered to).

I emailed the news that a mass grave had been found there to her...this was a few weeks ago [Link: www.foxnews.com...] when they first found the site. She was puzzled how they found it, and where it may be. I'm sure she will be even more puzzled at the fact these were Kurds. As Samawah is in the heart of southern Iraq - predominantly Shiite! How did these Kurds get there?

The article above from Fox, written by Associated press, notes that Samawah is in nothern Iraq. This is incorrect - [Link: www.mapblast.com...]
It is located 280km SE of Baghdad, between Najaf and Nasiriyah.

Given it's location, I can understand how they found executed Kuwaiti's...but Kurds?

More unknown pieces of this puzzle we call Opeartion Iraqi Freedom. Someday we can hope that it is finally put together...and pray for the lives of those trying to put it together.

Our soldier found the Iraqi people of Samawah to be very poor, but also very friendly, and thankful to them. Her unit was responsible for rebuilding schools, local infrastructure, hospitals, judicial systems, banks, ... The Dutch took over after they left for Fallujah, and the Japs after them, not sure who is there now.

They were not part of the 3/253th - but attached to the 82nd Airborn, 1st ME, ...

But, this story from the 3/253th on how the city of As Samawah was liberated is worth reading:

Sure, Saddam was a bad guy. But what about American atrocities at Abu Ghraib!? It's far worse to humiliate someone than to vaporize entire towns. I'm sure the poor CRIMINALS in Abu Ghraib would much prefer to be ventilated like these poor people here.

Where are the humanitarian groups when "brown" men kill "brown" women?
