BBC Interviews Ayaan Hirsi Ali
The BBC has an interesting interview with Dutch MP Ayaan Hirsi Ali. (Hat tip: piniella.)
Her outspoken views on Islam and multiculturalism have made her many enemies and last year she had to go into hiding following the murder of the filmmaker Theo Van Gogh with whom she had made ‘Submission’ - a film about the subjugation of Muslim women. Her views have posed a challenge to the multicultural Netherlands.
Her origins - as a Muslim Somali asylum seeker who fled an arranged marriage - have given her a unique platform from which to state her case. If she were a white politician, she agrees, she could be accused of being a racist.
She tells Owen Bennett Jones about her plans to make a sequel to ‘Submission’ - and why she thinks it’s important to do so. She also discusses how and why she lost her faith.
