Mama Moonbat's PR Machine

Sat, Aug 27, 2005 at 7:34:29 am PDT

It’s no surprise at all to discover that Mother Sheehan’s Media Circus is being clandestinely funded by all the usual radical left groups—and the Democratic Party: PR Machine Behind Cindy Sheehan? (Hat tip: LGF readers.)

Sheehan’s message hasn’t changed since she got here, but the support staff interested in getting that message out to the world has grown considerably. Organizers are set up in a house trailer. Their meetings closed to reporters.

Leading the group is Fenton Communications employee, Michele Mulkey, based in San Francisco. Fenton specializes in public relations for liberal non-profits.

Their bills are being paid for by True Majority, a non-profit set up by Ben Cohen — of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream fame. Ben Cohen, True Majority: “People are willing to listen to her and we want to do as much as we can to make her voice heard.”

Cohen’s group has teamed up with Berkeley based MoveOn.org, an anti-Bush group co-founded by Joan Blades. Earlier this month, MoveOn helped organize anti-war vigils in support of Cindy Sheehan.

Current Democratic National Party Chair Howard Dean’s organization Democracy for America is also involved, as is the more radical anti-war group Code Pink organized by San Francisco’s Medea Benjamin.

Money donated through these groups and others is helping to pay for Gold Star families whose children have been killed in Iraq to attend anti-Bush protests.

This week Simi Valley California Gold Star wife Melanie House flew to Idaho for a protest and then flew to Crawford.

ABC7’s Mark Matthews: “Can you tell us if you’re getting help in airfare to come down here?”

Melanie House: “What difference does that make?”

There is real reluctance to talk about who’s paying, and the P.R. machine that’s promoting Cindy Sheehan, but not everyone here is completely comfortable with it.

Gold Star mother Karen Meredith came here from Mountain View. Her son Ken Ballard died last year.

Karen Meredith, Gold Star mother: “Sometimes things don’t feel quite right to me. They don’t feel wrong, but maybe that’s how they do it in the marketing business.

ABC7’s Mark Matthews: “You feel you’re part of a marketing business?”

Karen Meredith: “Possibly. Yeah I think so.”

I posted this on the dead thread but I think its funny enough to post again.

/ducks and covers head

Hot August night
And the leaves hanging down
And the grass on the ground smelling sweet
Move up the road
To the outside of town
And the sound of that good war protest beat

Sits a ragged tent
Where there ain't no trees
And that protest group
Telling you and me

It's Cindy
Mother Sheehan's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Mother Sheehan's show

Room gets suddenly still
And when you'd almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat, she walks in
Eyes black as coal
And when she lifts her face
Every ear in the place is on her

Starting soft and slow
Like a small earthquake
And when she lets go
Half the media shakes

It's Cindy,Cindy
Mother Sheehan's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Mother Sheehan's show

Sermon

Take my hand in yours
Walk with me this day
In my heart, I know
I will never stray
Bush=Hitler,Bush=Hitler,Bush=Hitler

It's Cindy,Cindy
Mother Sheehan's Traveling Salvation Show
Pack up the babies
Grab the old ladies
Everyone goes
Everyone knows
Mother Sheehan's show
Amen

Apologies to Neil Diamond

I come in contact with a lot of people every week from all political stripes. The low end is "this display is pitiful" to pure outrage that this is all being promoted as a real "feeling" of the country. Most, if asked, wouldn't be happy with the current situation - they want a glass parking lot over in Iraq. No one believes we should leave things unfinished. Just maybe a little quicker resolution. I belive the Sheehan diplay makes most people disguted.

I pity the Karen Merediths involved in the Camp Casey slimefest and the antiwar movement in general.

For this particular Karen Meredith there is the distinct possibility that a year from from now she'll have had her heart broken again. She'll be kicking herself for not trusting that "something's not right" gut ache. The disillusionment will be terrible.

Maybe then we'll see her here, at LGF.

This is one place where the GOP can be so freaking weak it's painful. All they have to do is run some ads saying that "The leader of the DNC is paying for this woman to say (hideous quote) (treasonous quote) (insane quote) (horrid lie quote). It's time to tell the Democrats to stop using others to say what they don't have the courage to say themselves."

Boom.

What now? Do the Dem politicians endorse Sheehan's crap? If not, how do they explain funding it? Do they toss Dean overboard? If so, ad after ad of Dems being chummy with Dean. Speaking of Dems, what does the MSM do? Now all of America sees that they haven't been told the whole story for some reason. The MSM will also do whatever they feel is most beneficial to the Dems, and will throw Mother Sheehan overboard like a ticking bomb.

It ain't rocket science folks. When you use ads to directly quote Cindy accurately and factually cite that the head of the DNC is funding her, it's going to be impossible to spin meaningfully.

27 Paul  Sat, Aug 27, 2005 6:10:15am

The same PR organizations that funded and managed the Kerry campaign in 2004 are funding and managing Cindy Sheehan's rolling vigil. Professional handlers are now in place to focus her rhetoric and tone down her more outrageous statements. The PR machine is being cranked to full volume. The Left, demoralized by Kerry's defeat, has been reinvigorated and is more cynical and manipulative than ever. This September should be interesting with the big "anti-war" (i.e. pro terrorist) demonstration set for September 24th and George Galloway/Jane Fonda on a speaking tour.

The blogosphere needs to be on full alert.

"I smell an IRS rectal exam coming for Mother Sheehan"

As a self-promoter, she'd probably love it--she's already vowed not to pay her taxes; being raked over the coals by the IRS would allow her the same sort of martyrdom that many Republicans suffered when they were audited to death by Bill Clinton. The difference is, the biased-MSM would report it in 24-inch headlines, unlike the mid-1990s.

That's sad.

Bullshit.

Where is the equivalence? According to the article, the anti-Cindy Caravan is receiving help from an activist group that has a PR firm that is connected to the RNC. That is 3 degrees of separation, and no evidence is presented that the PR professionals are directly running the Caravan, as they certainly are the Cindy Circus.

This is scarcely the same as being directly represented, not to mention orchestrated, by a PR firm whose expenses are paid by the same corporate America the Left pretends to despise.

Beyond that, the Sheehan mob is directly confronting President Bush. The Republican Party has a legitimate and direct interest in supporting him against this attack. The Democratic Party and its auxiliaries, on the other hand, have no obvious interest other than exploiting the situation in defiance of their own stated positions. The latter, you may remember, include no precipitate withdrawal from Iraq or Afghanistan and continued aid for Israel, all positions that Sheehan and her handlers oppose.

As for MoveAmericaForward, this is a non-profit activist organization. Why is its existence and involvement considered illegitimate by the Left? It would be amazing if such an organization did not get involved in this issue. The Left may not recognize the legitimacy of this, compared to its own galaxy of non-profit shills, but that is only more evidence of their totalitarian agenda.

The credibility and success of the Cindy show depend on the perception that it is largely spontaneous. It is useless unless it is seen as the product of genuine emotion, an upwelling of grief from the bosom of a bereaved mother, and NOT as a professionally stage-managed PR operation.

No such consideration applies to the opposition protests, which are based on facts and a stated partisan interest, and not on a manufactured appeal to emotion.

"Grassfire.org and IM4W.com came back to the same Iowa-based conservative public policy organization, an organization with ties to the Republican National Committee."

What does it mean to have "ties to the Republican National Committee"? This is strikingly vague compared to the specific relationships cited for the Cindy Circus and its lefty supporters.
The reader is invited to conclude that these "ties" are something improper, or at least significant, since the context is an article exposing conceled connections, but is that a fact? By some standards, John Kerry and Howard Dean have "ties" to the RNC. They both socialize with prominent Repubs and they both know most members of the committee. In Kerry's case at least there are probably some business relationships as well.

KGO was struggling to be even-handed in this story, as they must in San Francisco, but this does not mean equivalence.

Agreed. But there are still way too many Americans that don't realize this because they get their news from the likes of the New York Times, CBS, CNN, NPR, etc.

That being said, I do notice progress. It seemd to me that more and more people are slowly waking up to the fact that there is a growing war going on between Islamic fascists and the rest of the world and that the treasonous far-left in the U.S. and Europe have sided with the Islamists.

You want to talk about funding, eh?

Well..

A.N.S.W.E.R. and their front organization CUPJ, moveon.org, Indymedia, CAIR, Ruckus Society and Code Pinko all get funds from the Tides Foundation. All the aforementioned organizations are either thinly veied Marxist/Maoist fronts or organizations that have publicly advocated the destruction of the U.S., just like your hero and fellow moonbat Ward Churchill.

Ever heard of them, Bob? Ever heard of Tereza Heinz (she dropped the -Kerry like a hot rock after the election)? You know, that woman who has a U.S.Senator for a gigalo....errrr....husband. You know him, the haughty French looking junior Senator from Massachusetts and failed Presidential candidate Jean Francois Kerry. Many of these organizations also get funding from one George Soros, owner and operator of the DNC/moveon.org.

Yes, the same bunch who sponsor Mother Moonbat also sposored the "demonstrations" at the Republican convention in New York last year. In essence both those "demonstrations" and Mother Moonbat are Democratic National Committee productions. There are no "degrees of separation" inbetween the two.

BTW-They also sponsor "Peacful Tomorrows", the organization which protested GW Bush mentioning 9/11 in a campaign ad because it supposedly "offended" 9/11 victim families. You will note that they pretty much shut up after it became known that these people were rabid lefties way before 9/11 and they, like Mother Moonbat, were using the dead to push their political agenda.

Hmmm... Charles' linked article seems to be in direct conflict with MSNBC:

(Best Shirley Temple voice)
Pro-Bush (meanies) caravan to face off against (poor little) Cindy Sheehan's anti-war (love and peace) protest

The various posters talking about "degrees of separation" seem actually to be proud that the conservative movement is run the same way that the Mafia was, with "cut-out men" and "plausible deniability."

80 Baldy  Sat, Aug 27, 2005 9:59:43am

Bob Munck - Yeah, you're right. Everyone thinks Bob Dole is living off of Viagra money, but really Bob Dole is sent around the country to do the Republican Party's wet jobs. Sometimes though, it's just some kneecaps that need busted.

No worry we got your back on this. Keep focused there, we got it handled here and contained and labeled hazardous material.

Medea Benjamin.

Need I say more? I know it's shallow - but I generally don't listen to women in silly pink outfits (and the hat is beyond bad).

She's also a supporter of Castro and numerous other commies, has tried to get US service people to desert, and if I remember correctly, went to Iraq to try to give money to the enemies we are fighting. Her pie-in-the-sky goals re trade, etc., are pure Lenin, and we know what happens when people like that are in power. I don't know why she's not in jail.

I also hate pink.

If I put up anti-war moonbatisms on billboards in my front yard will George Soros pay my mortgage and can my kids have a freezer full of Ben & Jerry's?

Go have some Baskin and Robbins. It was founded by my great uncle. It's not as good as Ben and Jerry's (except for the French Vanilla and the Chocolate Fudge), alas, but you'll feel cleaner about it.

85 Mardukhai  Sat, Aug 27, 2005 11:17:03am

As a journalist, I feel *slightly* better, knowing that there is at least one guy in the MSM willing to get to the bottom of the "Mother Sheehan" story.

Kol Hakavod to Mark Matthews!

I simple question, have you ever done anything positive for your country?

I consider myself a moderately Liberal democrat, Funny thing though the Basic Idals that I carry seem to be a moderate republican approach today. Before you carry on your rants against the Republican party - ask yourself -

What the hell has happened to Democratic Party? Since when has a total belief in power for Powers sake become an American Ideal?
And ask it honestly

#86 oldprof: I simple question, have you ever done anything positive for your country?

A three-star Admiral (and former boomer driver) once told me that I'd done more to protect our country against the Soviet navy than anyone else he knew.

Since when has a total belief in power for Powers sake become an American Ideal?

I don't know how to answer that, because I don't have any idea what it means. Are you sure you're a professor?

Changing the subject, moving the goalposts, equivocation, yadda yadda yadda.

Funny how every discussion you enter becomes about your grievances and your desires, and drifts from the topic at hand.

The question at hand is:

"Is the "Cindy Sheehan Show" about a grieving mother trying to affect national policy because of her loss, or is it an orchestrated and cynical attempt to use natural public sympathy to drive the nation toward the long-term goals of Ms. Sheehan and those who fund her?"

Bonus question:

"Is the "Cindy Sheehan Show" trying to conceal their agenda and sources of funding?"

Whether those who support the Administration oppose her is very obvious and not relevant.

See additional topics: "It's not all about you," "equivocation is a four-letter-word," and "moral low-ground."

"The various posters talking about "degrees of separation" seem actually to be proud that the conservative movement is run the same way that the Mafia was, with 'cut-out men and 'plausible deniability.'"

You were the one asserting equivalence and I see a stupid strawman is the only response you have to my rebuttal. Even so, your earlier claim of equivalence, and this one of Mafia-style malfeasance, would together imply that the Democratic Party is also run like the Mafia. Why are you smearing the Democrats too? What are you? A LaRouchie?

Proud of being run like the Mafia? Just how far do you think you have the right to go in telling other people not only what they should think (a given for terror-tools) but what they DO think? That kind of presumption is actually psychotic, a clinical symptom of several mental illnesses, including chemical dependency.
The kicker: You idiots deny that you are power-seeking control freaks. The pop-left is entirely about moblizing these mass neuroses, you can see it in the crazy mob supporting Mother Sheehan the posthumous child-abuser in Crawford.

"conservative movement is run the same way that the Mafia was, with 'cut-out men and 'plausible deniability.'"

BTW, you are assuming your conclusion (aka "concluding the premise") here, that the various "links" cited are actual evidence of influence and control. I pointed out that they are not, unless you think John Kerry is also an RNC front man.
Idiot.

Sounds more like the symptoms of a 1960's college education.

Not that they all turned out bad, just that most of them seem to follow a certain political lifestyle.

93 Stace  Sat, Aug 27, 2005 1:03:28pm

In Cindy's daily post at huffpost, today she has begun to attack the pro-war Gold Star mothers, referring to them as "brainwashed" and as the "continue the murder and mayhem moms".

I guess they don't have as much "moral authority" as Cindy does. Cindy is so special.

Wouldn't it be funny if someone pretended to be part of this little circus just to get free rides on an airplane? Or even have a counter demonstration right after arriving?

And Butt Munch seems actually proud of having slandered a grieving Marine family. How else to explain its periodic re-emergence from the sewers?

But we all know by know that Butt Munch is a loathsome pathetic old hippie. Now crawl back down your sewerhole, numb nuts.

Can someone please explain to me what is up with these suicidal, disconnected Jews?

Ben Cohen. I mean, OK, every group has it's disaffected right? I'm sure there are plenty of lapsed Italian Catholics, and Englishmen who hate tea, etc. But why is it that only us Jews seem to harbor this sick love of people who want us dead?

Yes, it's obviously not all of us, but still...

ARRRRRRRRGHHHH!

Al Sharpton appears to be on the same page with the Neo Nazis. Unbelievable stuff.

yeah...until they refuse to stand next to him or chant 'white power' or preach total isolationism after getting rid of select 'groups' they despise...hmmm, that would be an interesting scenario down yonder in the heat of Texas.......Hey, do ya think Sharpton will be donning one of his pimp-daddy outfits or will he go for some lightweight khakis?

I tried B & J's Ice Cream a couple times, but when I got near the bottom of the container, it was a waste, because there was always a lot of it LEFT.

Mr. Munck

Hmm Power for powers sake --- OK, Power can be obtained for many reasons -- among them - to help the underclass - to spread a religion, to make money - or simply for the love of power. I am afraid that the driving force of the modern Democratic party is simply the acquisition of power.

Unfortunately - that is to the detriment of our nation. We function best when there is a free and open exchange between alternative voices. The Left -- the Ultra-left -- seems to find it voice in slander and accusations. They are apparently gathering power purely for the love of power.

Oh yes - I teach at the College Level and have for over 20 years. I encourage my students to disagree with me and frequently reward them for voicing opinions that I disagree with if they present them logically and clearly.

BTW - I am a veteran of the Air Force, I have served in South East Asia and I am a Scout leader. And your service to the Navy was?
