honored comrades?
What the hell is going on at the NY Times? This article about US pressure on Iraq to allow inspections is accompanied by a photo of Iraqi soldiers with the caption:
During a ceremony in Baghdad today, Iraqi soldiers honor comrades who died in wars with Iran and the United States.
The caption exudes sympathy for the “honored comrades” of these soldiers, who wasted their lives in wars waged on behalf of a brutal dictator, used poison gas against Iran, and ravaged Kuwait and murdered its citizens indiscriminately. “Honored comrades?”
There’s a way to write this without the slant:
Iraqi soldiers at a memorial ceremony in Baghdad.
I used to think the NY Times was one of the best newspapers in the US, but this kind of stuff is just outrageously bad, biased writing.
