Good news in the midst of disaster;

Quake killed over 3000 militants

Intelligence sources have confirmed that over 3000 terrorists who were waiting for an opportunity to cross into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were killed in the October 8 earthquake.

A top intelligence officer told rediff.com that while hundreds of terrorists were killed because of the huge buildings crumbling, most others were killed due to massive explosions that took place because of fire breaking out in their ammunition dumps.

"This was nature's way of closing down terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," the officer said.

According to him, the figure of 3000 was tentative and the number of militants killed could be much more.

You've done it before Titus.

Here is a link to a World Net Daily Report that says:

The U.S. dollar is getting a modern makeover of sorts, as the Treasury Department has given its blessing for actress Geena Davis’ portrait to be temporarily featured on top of President George Washington.

Davis is starring in ABC’s new series, “Commander in Chief,” a drama about the first woman president.

Can someone please tell me this is a hoax?

OT: Internet Censorship

I have been blocked from using Jihad Watch and many other sites at the ISP level, presumably without the ISP's knowledge (their techies claim that they do not block sites). For the information of anyone else having this problem, you can access Jihad Watch using a proxy like Anonymizer but it costs money and, if you use their free proxy, you can't post.

Thus, first of all, I recommend reading this great article about bypassing internet censorship:

[Link: www.zensur.freerk.com...]

Then, you can do further research, or decide to use one of the options that the author describes depending on the method of censorship being used.

My ISP seems to be blocking access at the DNS server level, so when my browser calls for the IP address, it comes up as no address found.

Upon some reflection, I decided to use an anonymous surfing method called JAP, available here:

[Link: anon.inf.tu-dresden.de...]

The only caveat that I have with JAP is that it slows your surfing speed down; however, that is a small price to pay for the ability to bypass censorship.

The Mobots are trying to shut us down folks but they don't know who they are are messin' with. LIVE FREE OR DIE!

Al-BBC announces the success of the fine US military which has wiped out nearly a hundred effing terrorists in one sweep. Headline uses sneer quotes:

US strikes kill '70 Iraq rebels'

Article quickly points out that they weren't terrorists, of course, they were civilians:

Funerals were held for the dead on Monday in Ramadi
Helicopters and warplanes bombed two villages near Ramadi in western Iraq on Sunday, killing about 70 people, the US military says.
It said all the dead were militants, although eyewitnesses are quoted saying that many were civilians.

Hmm, I wonder who those eyewitnesses might have been.

Al-BBC (yeah, them again) reports that a Dutch Muslim woman is taking her job-denial case to the Equal Opportunities court ... because SHE REFUSES to wear the hijab.

Samira Haddad was turned down for a post as Arabic teacher at the prestigious Islamic College in Amsterdam because she refuses to wear a headscarf....

The debate on Muslim clothing in the Netherlands is heating up. The government wants to ban the burqa in certain places, including schools.

Utrecht city council says it will stop paying social security to women who wear the burqa and headscarves to job interviews.

Karl Rove is responsible for the "suicide" of former SNL comic Charles Rocket and for the massive die-off of poultry in Macedonia. The latter action was a warm-up for the intro of avian flu in the United States, to infect chicken used at various Popeye's, Church's and KFC fast food outlets to further decimate African-Americans and finish the job started by blowing up the New Orleans levees. Rocket was targeted by mistake due to his unfortunate resemblence to Fitzgerald.

#8 terp mole:

Don't read too much into that - the 3,000 figure doesn't just mean folks like al Qaeda, but terrorists that operate in Kashmir and the Afghan/Pakistani border against India. It's a pretty lawless region, and there are any number of groups that have terror operations.

Also, that would seem to indicate that terrorists were particularly hard hit by the quake, moreso than the general population. Of the 54,000 figure now being touted, that would mean the terrorists were especially hard hit? Something isn't adding up, but maybe someone else could shed some more light on that.

Little Mosque Poems
By Mohja Kahf

In my little mosque
there is no room for me
to pray. I am
turned away faithfully
five times a day.

My little mosque
so meager
in resources, yet
so eager
to turn away
a woman
or a stranger

My little mosque
is penniless, behind on rent
Yet it is rich in anger
every Friday, coins of hate
are generously spent

My little mosque is poor yet
every week we are asked to give
to buy another curtain
to partition off the women
or to pave another parking space

I go to the Mosque of the Righteous
I have been going there all my life
I have been the Cheerleader of the Righteous Team
I have mocked the visiting teams cruelly
I am the worst of those I complain about:
I am a former Miss Mosque Banality

I would like to build
a little mosque
without a dome
or minaret
I'd hang a sign
over the door:
Bad Muslims
welcome here
Come in, listen
to some music,
sharpen the souls longing,
have a cigarette

I went to the mosque
when no one was there
and startled two angels
coming out of a broom closet
Are they gone now? one said
The looked relieved

My great big mosque
has a chandelier
big as a Christmas tree
and a jealously guarded
lock and key
I wonder why
everyone in it
looks just like me

My little mosque
has a bouncer at the door
You have to look pious
to get in

My little mosque
has a big sense of humor
Not

I went to the mosque
when no one was there
The prayer space was soft and serene
I heard a sound like lonely singing
or quiet sobbing. I heard a leafy rustling
I looked around
A little Quran
on a low shelf
was reciting itself

My little mosque has a Persian carper
depicting trees of paradise
in the mens section, which you enter
through a lovely classical arch
The womens section features
well, nothing

Piety dictates that men enter
my little mosque through magnificent columns
Piety dictates
that women enter
my little mosque
through the back alley,
just past the crack junkie here
and over these fallen garbage cans

My little mosque used to be democratic
with a rotating imam
we chose from among us every month
Now my little mosque has an appointed imam
trained abroad
No one can dispute his superior knowledge

We used to use our minds
to understand Quran
My little mosque discourages
that sort of thing these days
We have official salaried translators
for God

I used to carry around a little mosque
in the chambers of my heart
but it is closed indefinitely pending
extensive structural repairs

I miss having a mosque,
driving by and seeing cars lining the streets,
people double-parking, desperate
to catch the prayer in time
I miss noticing, as they dodge across traffic
toward the mosque entrance between
buses and trucks,
their long chemises fluttering,
that trail of gorgeous fabrics Muslims leave
gossamer, the colors of hot lava, fantastic shades
from the glorious places of the earth

I miss the stiff, uncomfortable men
looking anywhere but at me when they meet me,
and the double-faced women
full of judgment, and their beautiful
childing shining
with my chidren, I do

There's an article in today's NYT about the suffering of Kasmiri
Muslim families after the earthquake. The article contains all the
standard Pakistani propaganda about Kashmir, and it focuses on the
supposed brutality of Indian security forces without mentioning the
fact that Islamic terrorists (called "guerillas" in the article) have driven half a million Hindus from
Kashmir. I encourage everyone to contact the public editor at the New
York Times about this. They claim that they read every single letter
sent to them, and if enough of us speak out about this, maybe the New
York Times will actually do something.

Here is the article:
[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

And here is the letter I sent:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in regard to Somini Sengupta's article, "Quake Widens
Rift in Families Across Kashmir," in the October 17th edition.

First of all, the article states that Kashmir has a "Muslim-majority"
population. However, while this may be true of the Kashmir valley
itself, the Jammu region is majority Hindu, and the Ladakh region is
Buddhist. Your reporting on Kashmir also consistently fails to mention
that almost half a million Hindus have been driven out of the Kashmir
valley by Islamic terrorists. The fact that the New York Times
willfully neglects one of the largest cases of ethnic cleansing in
recent history is disgraceful.

Secondly, the article blames India for the fact that a plebiscite has
never occurred in Kashmir. But the text of the UN resolution calling
for a plebiscite clearly states that Pakistan is to withdraw all its
troops from Kashmir and allow the Indian government to administer the
vote. Since Pakistan has not yet satisfied its obligation to withdraw,
which is a precondition for the plebiscite, how can you accuse India
of preventing it? The text of UN Security Council Resolution 47,
passed on April 21, 1948, can be found here, on the UN's website.

[Link: www.un.org...]

Finally, the article states that the Hindu ruler of Kashmir simply
"signed away" his territory. However, this decision was made in
response to an invasion of Kashmir by Pakistan-backed Pashtun
tribesmen, which was a violation of an agreement that both Indian and
Pakistan had made to settle the status of Kashmir politically. The
invasion by Pakistani tribesmen is a fact that is also acknowledged in
the Security Council resolution

It seems that your reporters in South Asia have unquestioningly
swallowed Pakistani propaganda on Kashmir without bothering to do
basic background research or even reading the relevant UN resolutions.
I do not expect the New York Times to take sides on this or any other
issue; I merely expect you to report ALL of the relevant facts. If
your paper is unwilling to do even that much, I shall have to
re-consider spending my money on your publication.

The United States, moving quickly to tighten its bonds with a key ally in the war on terror, said it was allocating up to 50 million dollars for initial aid to Pakistan

They can't resist spinning it as a political move. Evil America is cynically giving money only to make Pakistan a closer ally.

Too bad these idiot reporters haven't taken the time to do a little research. Look at our long history of helping poor countries in need. Countless billions have been donated by the US to whomever needed it. We clearly would have given the aid anyway.

Re Sharia in Ontario Canada

I received the following letter today (the second one on this subject in response to my earlier appeals they not allow Sharia law in Ontario), from the Premier of Ontario:

"Some time ago, you wrote to me about faith-based family arbitrations. Our government has been carefully considering the issue of religious arbitrations--and throughout this review, we have listened closely to what Ontarians have had to say.

"As you may know, our government will be introducing legislation soon to ensure that all binding family law arbitrations are conducted and governed exclusively by Ontario and Canadian law. We believe family arbitrations based on other laws and principles, including religious principles, should not be enforced by the courts.

"Ontarians will always have the right to seek advice and assistance from any source in matters of family law, including religious advice. However, if the legislation is passed, Ontario courts will only enforce family arbitrations that use the family law of Canada. There will be one family law for all Ontarians: it is the law of the land that gives us our common ground as a proudly diverse society. And it is our diversity that gives us our strength as a province.

"Thanks again for your interest in our government's initiatives. Be assured that my colleagues and I will continue to take your views into consideration as we work to deliver the results Ontarians demand and deserve."

"Yours truly,
Dalton McGuinty
Premier"

FBI says that Hinrichs left suicide note on computer, but that raises more questions than answers. Why did they wait two weeks to make mention of this information, which happens to be a single line on a computer that was supposedly still on. I had been wondering whether we would learn of a suicide note, but the circumstances of the find are curious to say the least. It will be interesting to see how and when the JTTF and FBI open the sealed warrants and turn the investigation over to ATF.

However, the more curious fact is how Jay7777 keeps managing to post before anyone else on the open threads. Does he have a sensor or feature known only to him as to when Charles will post the open thread.

There are too many people who don't know the truth about Kashmir because "reporters" like Somini Sengupta can't even be bothered to do basic research. I found the text of the resolution in 5 minutes, and it backs up everything I've said.

Mark Steyn offers more excellent punditry in today's WashTimes;

Who are those masked men?

I underestimated multiculturalism. After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks I assumed the internal contradictions of the rainbow coalition would be made plain -- that a cult of "tolerance" would in the end founder against a demographic so cheerfully upfront in their intolerance.

Instead, Islamic "militants" have become the highest repository of multicultural pieties. So you're nice about homosexuals and Native Americans? Big deal. Anyone can be tolerant of the tolerant, but tolerance of intolerance gives an even more intense frisson of pleasure to the multiculti masochists.

And so Islamists who murder non-Muslims in pursuit of explicitly Islamic goals are airbrushed into vague generic "rebel forces." You can't tell the players without a scorecard, and that's just how the Western media intend to keep it. If you wake up one morning and switch on the TV to see the Empire State Building crumbling to dust, don't be surprised if the announcer says: "Insurging rebel militant forces today attacked key targets in New York. In other news, the president's annual Ramadan banquet saw celebrities dancing into the small hours to Mullah Omar And His All-Girl Orchestra."
-----
I'm aware the very concept of "the enemy" is alien to the nonjudgmental, multicultural mind: There are no enemies, just friends whose grievances we haven't yet accommodated. But the media's sensitivity police apparently want this to be the first war we lose without even knowing to whom we lost it.

C'mon, guys, next time something happens in the Caucasus, why not blame the "Caucasians?" At least that way, we'll figure it must have been right-wing buddies of Timothy McVeigh.

magnificent news

79 Chicken Kiev  Mon, Oct 17, 2005 7:20:23am

I have seen no mentions on LGF and none in the local MSM either about A SERIES OF BOMB ATTACKS IN TRINIDAD'S CAPITAL CITY.

In July, August, September and now in October, bombs went off in Port of Spain, injuring many but killing none. One bomb in July injured fourteen people. Another in September was placed outside a KFC. And now last Friday, another.

What the hell is this? On Oct. 6, Scotland Yard arrested a British national named Umar Mohamed who was boarding a flight from Tobago to London. He was picked up on suspicion of being involved in the bombings. He also had "two throwing-knives" in his luggage. He was released the next day, then rearrested; his home searched by local and US officials, computer and phone seized, his grandmother's home searched, case set for 0ct. 26 in Tobago.

But even after Mohamed's arrest, another bomb exploded last Friday, so he obviously wasn't acting alone.

WHY HAVE WE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT THE TRINIDAD BOMBINGS?

I want to keep following this case and I want people to know about it. Any Caribbean lizards who can tell us more?

In November 2003 al-Tamimi was arrested by U.S. forces and tossed into Abu Ghraib on the outskirts of Baghdad, where, he says, he endured forms of torture similar to those displayed in the infamous photographs from the prison--including being chained at the neck and dragged around like a dog. While these claims cannot be verified without knowing his real name, al-Tamimi showed TIME scars on his leg that appeared consistent with lashing by electrical wires. He also says the stint in prison made him more religious. By the time al-Tamimi emerged nine months later, Saddam had been captured and the nature of the insurgency had changed: the Baathist networks, including al-Tamimi's group Jaish Mohammed, had in some cases joined forces with Islamic extremist organizations. Rejoining the leadership of the group, al-Tamimi initially used his skills in explosives to supervise its use of roadside bombs against U.S. and Iraqi forces. Although he doesn't say how and why he segued into handling suicide bombers, his experience in making alliances and connections made him a natural for the role.

He never would have done this had he not been mistreated in Abu Ghraib. It's George Bush's fault.

It is infuriating how little effort if any that "journalists" put into research before publishing what obviously is plain propoganda. They are such twits. I'm not at all sure that they even realize the ire they raise with their glib articles of fiction. They either know better and despise their readers, or they don't know any better. If you have the stomache for it, perhaps you could continue to submit reports to the editor in hopes that they might appreciate reality and include it in their next publication.

What is also curious is that we keep getting the information from the father, instead of directly from the FBI/JTTF or other law enforcement. Why is there such reluctance to divulge information about this case if it's just a run of the mill suicide by high explosive?

Peace in Iraq Still Elusive after Constitutional Referendum

Several of my knowledgeable readers are convinced that the Ninevah voting results as reported so far look like fraud. One suspected that the Iraqi government so feared a defeat there that they over-did the ballot stuffing and ended up with an implausible result.

One of my Iraqi-American correspondents compared the turnout statistics from Ninevah and Diyala provinces last Jan. 30 to those coming out now, and found the current numbers completely unbelievable.

So his only "proof" of fraud comes from his readers and un-named "correspondents" combined with an unexpected outcome? What a dummy.

It's pretty routine for law enforcement to share the gory details of suicides only with the family. That actually gives me some comfort. If the FBI were all, "SEE? Here's his suicide note! And here's his crappy grades! And here's the fight he had with his dad over money!" or whatever I'd be more concerned because my BS meter would be pinging louder.

well, the early information pointed to some islamic deal...

but now all the news stories are ignoring that, saying this was just a lone kid who wanted to kill himself.

and they made sure to mention that he loved guns and had lots of them, and some WWII type bombs in his apartment.

this suicide note, which is just now coming out, was apparently on the computer screen when the feds got into his apartment.

Its just very aggrivating when you don't know who to trust... there's no accountability with the press... either they lied about the islmaic ties, or they're lying now about the lack of them.

And the public will never know which it is. I'm contemplating starting to do prep work to work for the FBI or the CIA. I'm tired of having my head forced into the sand.

with all the different requirements for gas in all the different states (some states even have different requirements for different parts of the state) I'd rather see refineries in each state for each requirement...

that way you're just shipping crude oil around, then it can get refined elsewhere... one set up, and continual flow.

*shrug* should be easy enough to absorb the costs of construction, and i'm sure oil companies would like more refineries under their control, to avoid a hurricane wiping out 20% of our refining ability... ya know?

Yes, but doesn't the commerce clause actually apply to this? Why not have the federal government mandate the *one* way that petroleum should be refined into gas? Part of our higher costs is that there are so many different state requirements for gas. If there was only 1, it would be so much cheaper!

Your idea of having refineries in each state is a nice idea, but having 50 different grades just seems wacky to me.

Now, IANAPC (I am not a petrochemical engineer), so I don't know if what I'm suggestin is even feasible.

Now, we can't even rely on their terminal stupidity to kill either of them fast enough, the idiotarians who run the news media keep breathing life back into them. You and I can only suffer in (mostly) silence.

My suggestion on how to keep gasoline reserves: Decentralize it. Make it everyone's patriotic duty NOT to drain the gasoline out of their two stroke engines for the winter. Besides saving corrupted gasoline we will derive two economic benefits....The replacement garage building industry and new lawn mower sales will both get a big boost.

They have new neat lawnmowers that are electric and cordless... supposed to be able to run for quite some time...

an alternative to the gas powered ones.

I did see someone in my neighborhood with an electric mower... corded. I can't imagine having a cord trailing my lawnmower...

its bad enough that my leaf blower is corded...

We've got a cordless electric weed eater... works well.

they'd take the most restrictive, and most expensive and apply that to the other states.

That's true, and the environmentalist wackos would require even more stringent limitations on pollutants to strain out the .05% we're not getting now. So yeah, that would be a bummer.

But it annoys me to no end.

FLORIDA HURRICANE WILMA MID-DAY UPDATE

style="color:magenta;font-size:18;background-colo r:white;border:solid;border-color:red;padding:10px ">OK, just a little pink and green. To wake you up. But not so much as to overwhelm you. Anyway, the black areas on this color loop are cloud tops colder than -80oC. Intense thunderstorms, over 15 km high! Visible loop shows center is near northern edge of thunderstorm mass, as upper shear from the North is pushing thunderstorms Southward, away from the center. However, while the Canadian model shows light shear now, by tomorrow morning even that shear is gone, as Wilma will be right under the 250 mb anticyclone, with a 20 to 30 knot outflow jet all around it, helping to ventilate the system. As I mentioned to Nam Grunt earlier, if this stays South of about 25N, it might spare Florida. GFS says that doesn't happen, monster hurricane, just South of Tampa early Sunday. That might be a tad fast. European Community model says Hurricane Wilma just starting turn to Northeast after crossing Yucatan Peniunsula from the Southeast Sunday evening. UK Met 0Z run keeps it South of 25N, so it cruises West-Northwest across Yucatan, into Bay of Campeche, and in near Veracruz. New 12Z GFS model is a hit across Florida Keys into extreme South Florida with landfall early Monday morning. BTW. Wilma means 2005 has tied the record of 1933, 21 named (or, in the case of 1933, when they weren't named, nameable) storms.

Time to cut South Korea loose. The y are a bunch of ingrates almost as bas as the Europeans. Mauling MacArthur

THIS time, South Korea's anti-American crowd has gone too far. Uncle Sam-bashing is, unfortunately, quite popular these days among South Korea's left, teachers and youth — burning the Stars and Stripes and massive anti-U.S. street protests are all too common. But now South Korean radicals — many of them de facto North Korean pawns — are threatening to tear down the 15-foot tall statue of U.S. Gen. Douglas MacArthur at Inchon, the site of the intrepid landing that changed the course of the bloody Korean War.

We don't do well with electricity.

Our neighbor has an old fashioned people-powered push mower. He has to sharpen the blades pretty often.

I don't trust myself, my son, or my husband around sharpening tools.

We'll stick to a highly volatile gas/oil mix around here. Although, come to think of it, my dad accidentally scorched the side of our house when he got a bit enthusiastic with the BBQ flame starter once when I was a little kid. Could be in the genes.

OPEC ENACTS OIL EMBARGO:
October 17, 1973

The Arab-dominated Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)announces a decision to cut oil exports to the United States and other nationsthat provided military aid to Israel in the Yom Kippur War of October 1973.
According to OPEC, exports were to be reduced by 5 percent every month until Israel evacuated the territories occupied in the Arab-Israeli war of 1967. In December, a full oil embargo was imposed against the United States and several other countries, prompting a serious energy crisis in the United States and other nations dependent on foreign oil.

1989 Earthquake rocks San Francisco

The deadliest earthquake to hit the San Francisco area since 1906 strikes at 5:04 p.m. and lasts for 15 seconds. The quake measured 7.1 on the Richter scale, and its aftermath was witnessed on live television by millions of people watching the third game of the World Series of baseball between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland Athletics, held at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. The tremor hit moments before the start of the game, and sportscasters were soon performing the duties of news anchors as they reported on the resulting pandemonium in the stadium. The earthquake killed a total of 63 people, while more than 3,000 others were injured and more than 100,000 buildings were damaged.

as far as electrical cords... I'm far too worried about surviving an electricla shock to want electrical cords by anything that can cut.

Washington Post eviscerates Judith Miller and PlameGate.

A snippet:

Others disagree. Craig Pyes, a former contract writer for the Times who teamed up with Miller for a series on al Qaeda, complained about her in a December 2000 memo to Times editors and asked that his byline not appear on one piece.

"I'm not willing to work further on this project with Judy Miller," wrote Pyes, who now writes for the Los Angeles Times. He added: "I do not trust her work, her judgment, or her conduct. She is an advocate, and her actions threaten the integrity of the enterprise, and of everyone who works with her. . . . She has turned in a draft of a story of a collective enterprise that is little more than dictation from government sources over several days, filled with unproven assertions and factual inaccuracies," and "tried to stampede it into the paper."

She is finished. NY Times credibility rating has dropped from zero to negative 11.

The Left invested SO MUCH energy into this case. Now not only did it not turn out as they hoped, it's coming around to bite them on the ass.

Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht (1979), also known as Nosferatu the Vampyre. With Klaus Kinski.

I assume you mean uranium to build bombs, not missles. But they already have a breeder reactor or two and utilize plutonium fission bombs and plutonium-fueled triggers for their fusion bombs, so that's not really much of a concern. And they already have a goodly stockpile of bombs. They're looking to fuel electricity generating reactors, something we might do well to emulate.

A CLASSIC "just put down the phone and leave the house" movie.

Of course,

The Grudge

(and it's all-Japanese original version Ju On) teaches us that with Japanese ghosts, this just doesn't work. They're incredibly persistent--they follow you out of the haunted house, and proceed to haunt your office, apartment, bus, cordless phone, cellphone, video equipment, etc. It's definitely better to be haunted by an Occidental ghost, because they generally give you the "get out!" option.

The last two months has shown that the Bush Whitehouse Staff is disorganized or at sea, it is not serving the President well.

From flying over Katrina on the way to a golf outing (I would have had my man in waders passing out water bottles) to how the Meirs selection has come off, it is clear that a reorg is needed. Reagan brought in Howard Baker to get things back on track after Iran Contra. Clinton brought in Leon Pannetta when it was clear that adult supervision was required.

Short List: you want someone of stature and knows how DC operates- Dick Armey, Zell Miller (best choice), Jack Welch, Warren Rudman or Alan Simpson would all be solid choices.

The Maeirs nomnination is already off to a slow start, the second their is a problem or any sign of weakness, the wolves of politics and the press will descend to ravage her carcass.

Rather than do a complete new term house cleaning, that is healthy and prevents the very ossification we now see in Bush, part II, the President has allowed himself to be walled up in the oval office and he is not seeing the problems ahead.

The first duty to the nation is to have an effective administration; the time to reorganize for the remaining 3.3 years is right now.

It was thoroughly fisked here at the office (i.e., when aiming for the factory 7 miles down the road from Auschwitz, the Allies accidentally hit Auschwitz--nice precision). I'm not going to vent about it again here.

The Hitlery Channel can take a flying leap, anyway. Half the time they are catering to a Nazi-wannabe audience anyway--what's the explanation for the plethora of Hitler/Nazi related programming?

Strangers on my flight,
turbans they're packin'.
Wonderin' if they might,
plan a hijacking.
They could pull a stunt,
before this flight is through.

Something's on their minds.
I saw them mutter.
What that in their hands?
Looks like box cutters,
I'm gonna kick some ass,
if they make a move.

Strangers on my flight.
Two smelly people,
and they're not talking right;
and in a moment,
I will grab a baseball bat;
and that will be that.
Swing like Joe DiMaggio,
and rip them both a new a-hole.

And if they pick a fight,
and try to screw us,
I'll punch out their lights,
just like Joe Louis.
It would feel so right,
for strangers on my flight.

Ratta Tat Tat Tat,
Budda Bing Bang Boom,
Zooma Zooma Zoom.

Send those bastards to the moon....

You didn't like Don't Look Now (aside from Donald Sutherland, I mean)? Lots of people don't. Then again, lots of people think it's great. I'm not sure I actually liked it myself, but it stands out to me as having been weird and creepy.

But that may have something to do with the fact that I was sick when I saw it, and therefore well medicated.

"The Stand" is my favorite King novel. It was done as a mini-series, but as I recall, wasn't very good. I stayed up all one night reading the book when I was home alone and pregnant and it scared the crap out of me. I kept peeking out the windows making sure there were signs of life around. LOL!

We took in a stray recently to add to our two cats. Kept her in her own room with food/water/cat box for the first few days. That way, they could sniff each other under the door and become accustomed to having each other in the same space without having cat fights.

Then we let her out with the others with supervision, back in her own room when they were home alone for about another week or so.

After that, it was up to the three of them to adjust.

Worked out pretty well for us.

I was not familiar when Is aw that movie with female hygenic stuff so for a guy like myself it was kind of a gross out scene. I know that High School girls can be awfully cruel though (I did see that movie with Lindsay Lohan last year about that "Mean Girls.")

Once upon a time, Italian movies were cool.

Think of Sergio Leone with his westerns, and the gang of horror directors; all the police action flicks of the 70s (of which Tarantino apparently is a fan). Also the notorious Cannibal Holocaust was directed by an Italian guy.

Now we mostly make "cultural" and "politically involved" government-subsidized movies, sigh.

His remake of The Fly (1986) was rather unsettling as well...

Yes, since I live in the Dallas area, this has gotten a lot of local coverage. The bus driver was being held by the ICE (INS) in McAllen (in the Rio Grande Valley, near the Mexican border) because he's an illegal alien from Mexico. He'll probably be transferred to the Dallas Co. jail pretty soon (if he hasn't already). I read today where the Dallas Co. Sheriff's Office said it could find no evidence that the driver attempted to help rescue any passengers.

The bus was owned by a couple in Oklahoma, and should have been wearing an Oklahoma license plate, but instead had Texas plates on it, from another bus.

Also, the bus company was already in bankruptcy, so the families likely won't get any money from wrongful death suits.

Yes, I also read the part about the driver being an illegal immigrant. At first I had serious doubts about that claim because of the rather rigorous driver qualification process, but when I read the details about the company being shut down I can believe certain procedures weren't properly followed. This is bad news for me because it will inevitably lead to new legislation to prevent this already preventable incident from happening again. My heart aches for those passengers.

FARMINGTON, Conn. - Actor and comedian Charles Rocket, who had roles in a variety of movies and TV series and briefly gained notoriety for uttering an obscenity on "Saturday Night Live," committed suicide, the state medical examiner ruled.

Rocket, 56, whose real name was Charles Claverie, was found dead in a field near his home in Canterbury on Oct 7. His throat had been cut, the medical examiner said.

"An investigation determined there was no criminal aspect to this case," State Police Sgt. J. Paul Vance said Monday

Perhaps a LGFer with a clearer memory can help me. I think that I remember a Volkswagen commercial (print) that I saw one time and one time only. It featured a Volkswagen Beetle floating in a body of water and the tag line: "If Ted Kennedy had been driving a Volkswagen, he'd be President today". I know that Volkswagen had commercials that said "A Volkswagen will definately float, but it will not float indefinately".

I want to say that I saw this sometime after '72, but it may have been a National Lampoon parody (or someone elses'). If anyone else remembers this and can point me towards a reprint, I'd really appreciate it.

My understanding is they had a G-rated boat and an X-rated boat. However, it would seem that one or more crew members on the X-rated boat had a slightly different idea of what "X-rated" meant. The players and their guests went beyond the public sex comfort level of those crew members. The captains called the home office and were told to return to port immediately.

I might add that football players tend to be strong guys. Drunk, sex-crazed football players running amok would be scary. Some of the crew might have anticipated amokness.

Now it's a big moral outrage thing. I think it's sort of silly - "North Dallas Forty" meets "Ozzie and Harriet."

I think the term "pity sex" was coined by Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm. It is when a woman has sex with you because she feel overwhelmingly sorry or pity for you.

No, I remember using that term years before Curb Your Enthusiasm came on, but I think we also called it "sympathy sex."

Then there was "mercy sex" which is what you got if you had a physical injury and had a cast or large bandage.

Bud Selig must be pulling his hair piece off now with the prospect of an Astros-White Sox World Series. If it were up to TV and MLB the post season would always be:

ALCS - Yanks v Red Sox
NLCS - Dodgers v. Mets
World Series - Dodgers v. Yankees.

well, shut down the computer (if you're using Windows, click Start, then Shut down)

then either click on "restart" or just shut it down, then turn it back on.

if you're using Windows, which I'd bet you are, one of the issues windows has is that sometimes it just needs a reboot...

Cartoons in the Magic Kingdom
First Saudi Cinema to Screen Cartoons for Women, Children

The Kingdom’s first cinema will open in Riyadh during Eid Al-Fitr holidays, but will show only cartoon films for women and children...

Dr. Abdullah Dahlan, a writer, said he had not come across any law that bans running of cinemas in the Kingdom. He said cinemas existed in the country more than 50 years ago, but they disappeared in the past 15 years due to religious extremism.

I can't wait to see what kind of cartoons they'll be showing.

No, I'm saying that the above poster who claimed the Vikes would go 1-14 is obviously not realizing that in the NFL, teams play 16 games.

Between the Vi-queens ineptness and the Pack's inability to play well in domes, you've got the makings of a 31-31 tie in next weeks game.

Spiegel - Henry Kissinger on Europe's Falling out with Washington

Leftist German rag inteviews Henry Kissinger. Interesting read.

Kissinger: The very core of Europe has changed drastically. ... Nowadays, on the other hand, there are politicians who represent pretty powerful countries, but whose citizens are not prepared to sacrifice themselves for the state. Europe is allowing the classic nation state to be sacrificed without having a community logistically and emotionally organized enough, such as a United States of Europe, to take its place. America on the other hand is still a traditional nation state.

SPIEGEL: In Europe there is a school of thinking which would like to see the old continent as a counterweight to America.

Kissinger: Yes, this trend does exist. I have read various remarks in SPIEGEL indicating that German foreign policy aims to meet America eye to eye. That may well be necessary in certain situations but confrontation with America should not be the determining factor in Germany's foreign policy.

WorldantiSpyware just comes on I guess when you click on some websites. Before you know it you see a program running that is searching your computer and some world anti spyware icons appear on yor desk top. To get rid of it you need to click on something as the program runs that says "Do not automatically run" then go into the add/remove icon and uninstall it and then delete the icons. Also then go into safety mode (F8) and check on the Add/Remove listing to see if it is gone. I looked it up on the web and it is a desk top hijacker that some shithead in Juarez Mexico developed.

"We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters.

We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights."

ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything.

ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be.

ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy.

ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes.

ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care.

ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally , or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair.

ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure.

ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful.

ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights.

ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (lastly....) NOW..

ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!

If you agree, share this with a friend. No, you don't have to, and nothing tragic will befall you if you don't. I just think it's about time common sense is allowed to flourish. Sensible people of the United States, speak out because if you do not, who will

They're hoping to edge out with "free media" as they had aboard his "Straight Talk" bus in 1999/2000 to cut off at the knees any and all other Republican presidential contenders before the primaries.

He has been in politics so long that his public record keeps coming back to haunt him. I would easily pull the lever for Joe Liebermann over him anyday... and I'm a long time GOP man. McCain will not survive the primaries no matter how his acolytes spin it. Neither will his evil twin Hillary.

How are you these days?

Nam...If you're still here.

Geek Superhero has a nice tool that is used for cleaning up programs that set themselves to start when you start up the computer, and when you use IE. It's free for 30 days, then $25.

I bought it, as I have saved several computers with it.

I keep it running in the background, 'cuz it catches anything that tries to plant something on your startup menus, desktop, etc.

Feel good story of the day, Rosie O'Donnell gets savaged in the NY Times for her performance in "Fiddler on the Roof":

Her accent trots the globe, through countries real and imagined. It is variously Irish, Yiddish, Long Island-ish and, for big dramatic moments, crisp and round in the style of introduction-to-theater students. Her relationship with the notes and keys of a song is similarly fluid.
In the scene where Tevye (Harvey Fierstein) frightens his wife by describing an ominous dream, Ms. O'Donnell puts her hands to her pinchable cheeks and emanates a series of high-pitched o's, bringing to mind a distressed dolphin.
But as is usual with her stage performances, she suggests a jill-of-all-trades who thought she might as well try her hand at acting, too. The overall impression brings to mind what might happen if the lead in a high school production fell ill and the director turned to the most popular and reliable girl in the senior class (who is already the captain of the field hockey team, the debating society and the pep club) to fill in.
A warning to those of delicate hearing: the show is now so overmiked that when Mr. Fierstein exercises his nasal tones, your eardrums go into shock. When Ms. O'Donnell tries to match him in stridency in the duet "Do You Love Me?," you may find yourself longing for a more aurally soothing environment, like the runway of a busy airport.

Freeh at last

Then six weeks after the bombing, Freeh reports that evidence was gathered that "showed almost beyond a doubt that the Khobar Tower attacks had been sanctioned, funded and directed by senior officials of the government of Iran." The evidence was taken to Clinton's national security advisor Sandy Berger, and upon reviewing it asked Freeh, "Who knows about this?" Instead of acting upon what had been learned, Freeh says, Berger devised a plan to prevent the evidence from leaking out.

there are another 48 states in the US... I wish people would stop paying attention to just CA and NY.

Despite the articles about the OU bomber (not sure what to think there) I like the Daily Oklahoman. Decent coverage.

of course, you'll not find any talk show host or news source ever mention it (I even heard Fox News reference some NY newspaper for a story about the OU bombing... ACK!)

People need to start ignoring the LA newspapers, and need to start ignoring the NYT.... then maybe people's opinions on MANY issues would start to change.

There's a lady in my office who is talking to herself... and its kind of weirding me out.

This was wierd...watching Brit Hume's show, and they had a piece on the NJ governors race. At a rally for Corzine, they had a long shot of the podium and someone was waving a Cuban flag in the crowd. Anyone have a legitimate explanation for this? I doubt it, but thought I'd not jump to conclusions...

Fear not. I think most people in the know would agree that dinosaurs like LAT and NYT are on their way out. It sounds cliche but, there is definitely a paradigm shift in the works here.

Think about it. Five years ago, I would have never thought (and I work in the Internet tech biz) that I'd be sitting in front of my PC not just watching the news cycle occur, but actually participaitng in it.

Strange, but Cool.

You think TV execs would have wised up after the bottom fell out of Left West Wing's ratings and they come out with this Commander in Chief bomb.

the show isn't designed to last... its just there to be pushed as a hit for a season or two... just long enough for people mindless sheep to understand that voting for Hillary is good.

make sure that Fox gets the memo.

I even emailed them when I heard that NY paper referenced in the OU bombing story (It wasn't the times, I forget which it was)

asked them why they didn't think that the OU story was important enough to maybe quote an Oklahoma Newspaper, which might have a bit better coverage than some drivel from New York.

I have been blocked from using Jihad Watch and many other sites at the ISP level, ...

I noticed something odd with jihadwatch too, earlier today and a few min ago:
No problem reaching the site, but would consistently get a 404 err on trying to reach comments or using the permlink for a particlular post.

Checking my hosts file, I'd had a line with
63.247.132.5 [Link: www.jihadwatch.org...]

After commenting that out, ie, changing to
#63.247.132.5 [Link: www.jihadwatch.org...]
I _could_ reach comments too.

One thing I noticed is that the site name in Firefox's address bar omitted the www.
for the main site, but included it when accessing a comment thread.

But I'm not quite geeky enough to make sense of this.

One of the many lovely jems from the KFA:

This made me see a darkness yes, the darkness of capitalism! Attacking other countries, destroying people and things (like the worlds eco-system), that is about what capitalism is good for nowadays. That and an endless conveyor belt of junk that will give happiness for 4 seconds but real happiness as Castro told us comes from values.

We are waiting for the end of the Imperialist evil axis, my goodness they have their feet stuck in Iraq and can't seem to get out - I wonder ;-) ..byefornow.. laura

Another little western ho who will never give herself to the wonderful giles to a totalarian state which she so publicly supports. What a hypocrite. Hope she spends years at a political re-education camp in one of little Kims "happy farms".

Malik Shabazz in his own words.

He's on O'Reilly now.

A sample of the quotes:

During a protest in front of the B’nai B’rith building in Washington, D.C. (April 20, 2002), Shabazz led chants of:

"death to Israel," "the white man is the devil," and "Jihad." Shabazz also said, "Kill every goddamn Zionist in Israel! Goddamn little babies, goddamn old ladies! Blow up Zionist supermarkets!"

Star Parker at TownHall Re: The Millions (give or take 1,999,000) More March.

Do poor blacks need to hear 'millions more' excuses?

From the article:

It may be news to Farrakhan, and perhaps to other black leaders, that blacks are unique and individual human beings. It's the racists who look at us otherwise. It does not empower black citizens when they hear from their leaders that they are not unique individuals but racial objects.

Am I suggesting that blacks in America today do not have to contend with the burden of racism? Of course I am not. What I do claim is that the most damaging racism in our community is what it hears from its own leaders. It is the message that black citizens cannot and should not be treated as free and personally responsible individuals
