Good news in the midst of disaster;

Quake killed over 3000 militants

Intelligence sources have confirmed that over 3000 terrorists who were waiting for an opportunity to cross into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir were killed in the October 8 earthquake.

A top intelligence officer told rediff.com that while hundreds of terrorists were killed because of the huge buildings crumbling, most others were killed due to massive explosions that took place because of fire breaking out in their ammunition dumps.

"This was nature's way of closing down terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," the officer said.

According to him, the figure of 3000 was tentative and the number of militants killed could be much more.

Here is a link to a World Net Daily Report that says:

The U.S. dollar is getting a modern makeover of sorts, as the Treasury Department has given its blessing for actress Geena Davis’ portrait to be temporarily featured on top of President George Washington.

Davis is starring in ABC’s new series, “Commander in Chief,” a drama about the first woman president.

Can someone please tell me this is a hoax?

OT: Internet Censorship

I have been blocked from using Jihad Watch and many other sites at the ISP level, presumably without the ISP's knowledge (their techies claim that they do not block sites). For the information of anyone else having this problem, you can access Jihad Watch using a proxy like Anonymizer but it costs money and, if you use their free proxy, you can't post.

Thus, first of all, I recommend reading this great article about bypassing internet censorship:

[Link: www.zensur.freerk.com...]

Then, you can do further research, or decide to use one of the options that the author describes depending on the method of censorship being used.

My ISP seems to be blocking access at the DNS server level, so when my browser calls for the IP address, it comes up as no address found.

Upon some reflection, I decided to use an anonymous surfing method called JAP, available here:

[Link: anon.inf.tu-dresden.de...]

The only caveat that I have with JAP is that it slows your surfing speed down; however, that is a small price to pay for the ability to bypass censorship.

The Mobots are trying to shut us down folks but they don't know who they are are messin' with. LIVE FREE OR DIE!

Al-BBC announces the success of the fine US military which has wiped out nearly a hundred effing terrorists in one sweep. Headline uses sneer quotes:

US strikes kill '70 Iraq rebels'

Article quickly points out that they weren't terrorists, of course, they were civilians:

Funerals were held for the dead on Monday in Ramadi
Helicopters and warplanes bombed two villages near Ramadi in western Iraq on Sunday, killing about 70 people, the US military says.
It said all the dead were militants, although eyewitnesses are quoted saying that many were civilians.

Hmm, I wonder who those eyewitnesses might have been.

Don't read too much into that - the 3,000 figure doesn't just mean folks like al Qaeda, but terrorists that operate in Kashmir and the Afghan/Pakistani border against India. It's a pretty lawless region, and there are any number of groups that have terror operations.

Also, that would seem to indicate that terrorists were particularly hard hit by the quake, moreso than the general population. Of the 54,000 figure now being touted, that would mean the terrorists were especially hard hit? Something isn't adding up, but maybe someone else could shed some more light on that.

Little Mosque Poems
By Mohja Kahf

In my little mosque
there is no room for me
to pray. I am
turned away faithfully
five times a day.

My little mosque
so meager
in resources, yet
so eager
to turn away
a woman
or a stranger

My little mosque
is penniless, behind on rent
Yet it is rich in anger
every Friday, coins of hate
are generously spent

My little mosque is poor yet
every week we are asked to give
to buy another curtain
to partition off the women
or to pave another parking space

I go to the Mosque of the Righteous
I have been going there all my life
I have been the Cheerleader of the Righteous Team
I have mocked the visiting teams cruelly
I am the worst of those I complain about:
I am a former Miss Mosque Banality

I would like to build
a little mosque
without a dome
or minaret
I'd hang a sign
over the door:
Bad Muslims
welcome here
Come in, listen
to some music,
sharpen the souls longing,
have a cigarette

I went to the mosque
when no one was there
and startled two angels
coming out of a broom closet
Are they gone now? one said
The looked relieved

My great big mosque
has a chandelier
big as a Christmas tree
and a jealously guarded
lock and key
I wonder why
everyone in it
looks just like me

My little mosque
has a bouncer at the door
You have to look pious
to get in

My little mosque
has a big sense of humor
Not

I went to the mosque
when no one was there
The prayer space was soft and serene
I heard a sound like lonely singing
or quiet sobbing. I heard a leafy rustling
I looked around
A little Quran
on a low shelf
was reciting itself

My little mosque has a Persian carper
depicting trees of paradise
in the mens section, which you enter
through a lovely classical arch
The womens section features
well, nothing

Piety dictates that men enter
my little mosque through magnificent columns
Piety dictates
that women enter
my little mosque
through the back alley,
just past the crack junkie here
and over these fallen garbage cans

My little mosque used to be democratic
with a rotating imam
we chose from among us every month
Now my little mosque has an appointed imam
trained abroad
No one can dispute his superior knowledge

We used to use our minds
to understand Quran
My little mosque discourages
that sort of thing these days
We have official salaried translators
for God

I used to carry around a little mosque
in the chambers of my heart
but it is closed indefinitely pending
extensive structural repairs

I miss having a mosque,
driving by and seeing cars lining the streets,
people double-parking, desperate
to catch the prayer in time
I miss noticing, as they dodge across traffic
toward the mosque entrance between
buses and trucks,
their long chemises fluttering,
that trail of gorgeous fabrics Muslims leave
gossamer, the colors of hot lava, fantastic shades
from the glorious places of the earth

I miss the stiff, uncomfortable men
looking anywhere but at me when they meet me,
and the double-faced women
full of judgment, and their beautiful
childing shining
with my chidren, I do

There's an article in today's NYT about the suffering of Kasmiri
Muslim families after the earthquake. The article contains all the
standard Pakistani propaganda about Kashmir, and it focuses on the
supposed brutality of Indian security forces without mentioning the
fact that Islamic terrorists (called "guerillas" in the article) have driven half a million Hindus from
Kashmir. I encourage everyone to contact the public editor at the New
York Times about this. They claim that they read every single letter
sent to them, and if enough of us speak out about this, maybe the New
York Times will actually do something.

Here is the article:
[Link: www.nytimes.com...]

And here is the letter I sent:

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in regard to Somini Sengupta's article, "Quake Widens
Rift in Families Across Kashmir," in the October 17th edition.

First of all, the article states that Kashmir has a "Muslim-majority"
population. However, while this may be true of the Kashmir valley
itself, the Jammu region is majority Hindu, and the Ladakh region is
Buddhist. Your reporting on Kashmir also consistently fails to mention
that almost half a million Hindus have been driven out of the Kashmir
valley by Islamic terrorists. The fact that the New York Times
willfully neglects one of the largest cases of ethnic cleansing in
recent history is disgraceful.

Secondly, the article blames India for the fact that a plebiscite has
never occurred in Kashmir. But the text of the UN resolution calling
for a plebiscite clearly states that Pakistan is to withdraw all its
troops from Kashmir and allow the Indian government to administer the
vote. Since Pakistan has not yet satisfied its obligation to withdraw,
which is a precondition for the plebiscite, how can you accuse India
of preventing it? The text of UN Security Council Resolution 47,
passed on April 21, 1948, can be found here, on the UN's website.

[Link: www.un.org...]

Finally, the article states that the Hindu ruler of Kashmir simply
"signed away" his territory. However, this decision was made in
response to an invasion of Kashmir by Pakistan-backed Pashtun
tribesmen, which was a violation of an agreement that both Indian and
Pakistan had made to settle the status of Kashmir politically. The
invasion by Pakistani tribesmen is a fact that is also acknowledged in
the Security Council resolution

It seems that your reporters in South Asia have unquestioningly
swallowed Pakistani propaganda on Kashmir without bothering to do
basic background research or even reading the relevant UN resolutions.
I do not expect the New York Times to take sides on this or any other
issue; I merely expect you to report ALL of the relevant facts. If
your paper is unwilling to do even that much, I shall have to
re-consider spending my money on your publication.

The United States, moving quickly to tighten its bonds with a key ally in the war on terror, said it was allocating up to 50 million dollars for initial aid to Pakistan

They can't resist spinning it as a political move. Evil America is cynically giving money only to make Pakistan a closer ally.

Too bad these idiot reporters haven't taken the time to do a little research. Look at our long history of helping poor countries in need. Countless billions have been donated by the US to whomever needed it. We clearly would have given the aid anyway.

Re Sharia in Ontario Canada

I received the following letter today (the second one on this subject in response to my earlier appeals they not allow Sharia law in Ontario), from the Premier of Ontario:

"Some time ago, you wrote to me about faith-based family arbitrations. Our government has been carefully considering the issue of religious arbitrations--and throughout this review, we have listened closely to what Ontarians have had to say.

"As you may know, our government will be introducing legislation soon to ensure that all binding family law arbitrations are conducted and governed exclusively by Ontario and Canadian law. We believe family arbitrations based on other laws and principles, including religious principles, should not be enforced by the courts.

"Ontarians will always have the right to seek advice and assistance from any source in matters of family law, including religious advice. However, if the legislation is passed, Ontario courts will only enforce family arbitrations that use the family law of Canada. There will be one family law for all Ontarians: it is the law of the land that gives us our common ground as a proudly diverse society. And it is our diversity that gives us our strength as a province.

"Thanks again for your interest in our government's initiatives. Be assured that my colleagues and I will continue to take your views into consideration as we work to deliver the results Ontarians demand and deserve."

"Yours truly,
Dalton McGuinty
Premier"

FBI says that Hinrichs left suicide note on computer, but that raises more questions than answers. Why did they wait two weeks to make mention of this information, which happens to be a single line on a computer that was supposedly still on. I had been wondering whether we would learn of a suicide note, but the circumstances of the find are curious to say the least. It will be interesting to see how and when the JTTF and FBI open the sealed warrants and turn the investigation over to ATF.

However, the more curious fact is how Jay7777 keeps managing to post before anyone else on the open threads. Does he have a sensor or feature known only to him as to when Charles will post the open thread.

Anyways, I have posted as above because I wanted to help other people. I have solved my censorship problem with JAP.

Thanks. I'm hoping I can get Charles to do a thread on this issue. There are too many people who don't know the truth about Kashmir because "reporters" like Somini Sengupta can't even be bothered to do basic research. I found the text of the resolution in 5 minutes, and it backs up everything I've said.

De nada. Sometimes I think a slow connection or one of those weird dealies where some sites work and others don't is worse than losing one's connection entirely. Grrr! So I know how you feel.

Mark Steyn offers more excellent punditry in today's WashTimes;

Who are those masked men?

I underestimated multiculturalism. After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks I assumed the internal contradictions of the rainbow coalition would be made plain -- that a cult of "tolerance" would in the end founder against a demographic so cheerfully upfront in their intolerance.

Instead, Islamic "militants" have become the highest repository of multicultural pieties. So you're nice about homosexuals and Native Americans? Big deal. Anyone can be tolerant of the tolerant, but tolerance of intolerance gives an even more intense frisson of pleasure to the multiculti masochists.

And so Islamists who murder non-Muslims in pursuit of explicitly Islamic goals are airbrushed into vague generic "rebel forces." You can't tell the players without a scorecard, and that's just how the Western media intend to keep it. If you wake up one morning and switch on the TV to see the Empire State Building crumbling to dust, don't be surprised if the announcer says: "Insurging rebel militant forces today attacked key targets in New York. In other news, the president's annual Ramadan banquet saw celebrities dancing into the small hours to Mullah Omar And His All-Girl Orchestra."
-----
I'm aware the very concept of "the enemy" is alien to the nonjudgmental, multicultural mind: There are no enemies, just friends whose grievances we haven't yet accommodated. But the media's sensitivity police apparently want this to be the first war we lose without even knowing to whom we lost it.

C'mon, guys, next time something happens in the Caucasus, why not blame the "Caucasians?" At least that way, we'll figure it must have been right-wing buddies of Timothy McVeigh.

I have seen no mentions on LGF and none in the local MSM either about A SERIES OF BOMB ATTACKS IN TRINIDAD'S CAPITAL CITY.

In July, August, September and now in October, bombs went off in Port of Spain, injuring many but killing none. One bomb in July injured fourteen people. Another in September was placed outside a KFC. And now last Friday, another.

What the hell is this? On Oct. 6, Scotland Yard arrested a British national named Umar Mohamed who was boarding a flight from Tobago to London. He was picked up on suspicion of being involved in the bombings. He also had "two throwing-knives" in his luggage. He was released the next day, then rearrested; his home searched by local and US officials, computer and phone seized, his grandmother's home searched, case set for 0ct. 26 in Tobago.

But even after Mohamed's arrest, another bomb exploded last Friday, so he obviously wasn't acting alone.

WHY HAVE WE HEARD NOTHING ABOUT THE TRINIDAD BOMBINGS?

I want to keep following this case and I want people to know about it. Any Caribbean lizards who can tell us more?

I don't know what to make of this mess anymore...

I'm almost to where I don't care... let there be another bombing in Oklahoma... maybe people will be held accountable then.

first all the information was about this kid who had bombs in his apartment and pro-jihad material, and had been visiting a mosque nearby...

then the press did a full 180. either they were lying then, or they are lying now...

I just don't care anymore. I was writing up a deal on it for Titus' blog... but the more research i did, the more I got fed up with it all.

In November 2003 al-Tamimi was arrested by U.S. forces and tossed into Abu Ghraib on the outskirts of Baghdad, where, he says, he endured forms of torture similar to those displayed in the infamous photographs from the prison--including being chained at the neck and dragged around like a dog. While these claims cannot be verified without knowing his real name, al-Tamimi showed TIME scars on his leg that appeared consistent with lashing by electrical wires. He also says the stint in prison made him more religious. By the time al-Tamimi emerged nine months later, Saddam had been captured and the nature of the insurgency had changed: the Baathist networks, including al-Tamimi's group Jaish Mohammed, had in some cases joined forces with Islamic extremist organizations. Rejoining the leadership of the group, al-Tamimi initially used his skills in explosives to supervise its use of roadside bombs against U.S. and Iraqi forces. Although he doesn't say how and why he segued into handling suicide bombers, his experience in making alliances and connections made him a natural for the role.

He never would have done this had he not been mistreated in Abu Ghraib. It's George Bush's fault.

It is infuriating how little effort if any that "journalists" put into research before publishing what obviously is plain propoganda. They are such twits. I'm not at all sure that they even realize the ire they raise with their glib articles of fiction. They either know better and despise their readers, or they don't know any better. If you have the stomache for it, perhaps you could continue to submit reports to the editor in hopes that they might appreciate reality and include it in their next publication.

Sorry, but the story doesn't elaborate on the contents of the note.

The father said he could not recall the exact wording but said his son used profanity in the message and was obviously very angry. "He wrote he was dissatisfied with the situation and was going to quit living," the father said.

What is also curious is that we keep getting the information from the father, instead of directly from the FBI/JTTF or other law enforcement. Why is there such reluctance to divulge information about this case if it's just a run of the mill suicide by high explosive?

Yes, it's very odd. None of the imformation that we have received makes sense.

If it was a botched bombing, maybe it is leading us to several cells, and we can't know the details right now... which is fine with me.

Juan Cole; Stuck on Stupid
Peace in Iraq Still Elusive after Constitutional Referendum

Several of my knowledgeable readers are convinced that the Ninevah voting results as reported so far look like fraud. One suspected that the Iraqi government so feared a defeat there that they over-did the ballot stuffing and ended up with an implausible result.

One of my Iraqi-American correspondents compared the turnout statistics from Ninevah and Diyala provinces last Jan. 30 to those coming out now, and found the current numbers completely unbelievable.

So his only "proof" of fraud comes from his readers and un-named "correspondents" combined with an unexpected outcome? What a dummy.
