Gaza City - The Palestinian public prosecutor on Sunday decided to close down a television station belonging to the radical Islamic Hamas movement, just days ahead of crunch general elections.
Public prosecutor Ahmed Maghni told AFP the Al Aqsa television station, which only started broadcasting on January 9, was being shut down because it did not have the necessary broadcast licence.
“The decision to close Al Aqsa television was taken today. ”A complaint was filed and inquiries were made, and we found out that the station had not legally applied” for a licence, he said.
The decision to close the channel, which was taken in co-ordination with the interior ministry, has not yet been enforced…
