The Jerusalem Post says Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten has apologized for their Mohammed cartoons.

A Danish newspaper on Monday issued an apology to the world’s Muslims for publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that sparked a furor in the Islamic world.

The drawings “were not in violation of Danish law but have undoubtedly offended many Muslims, which we would like to apologize for,” the Jyllands-Posten’s editor-in-chief Carsten Juste said in a statement posted on the paper’s Web site.

UPDATE at 1/30/06 3:16:57 pm:

A Danish reader emails:

If you know the story of the Muhammed cartoons, then you would know that the Jyllands-Posten has ALWAYS said it regretted offending muslims feelings. Todays “apology” simply says “we’re sorry for hurting your feelings”, but they do not apologize for publishing the cartoons. Your source is wrong in its understanding of what has happened.

UPDATE at 1/30/06 3:52:30 pm:

Here’s the actual letter at Jyllands-Posten.
