RetweetOnce, Twice, Three Times a Terrorist

Thu, Apr 13, 2006 at 9:18:37 am PDT

Libyan strongman/nutbar Muammar Gaddafi is holding a gala celebration to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Reagan’s bombing of Tripoli, and shilling for the dictator will be the fabulous Lionel Richie! Libya remembers US raid with big festival. (Hat tip: Beautiful Atrocities.)

A film on the US raid entitled: “The Resistance to the Attack” is also to be shown, along with children’s drawings and paintings.

A conference is to be held, which organizers hope will be attended by Western academics, on the theme: “The US attack, its consequences and the right of Libyans to compensation and an apology”.

“In a bad world where Iraq is occupied and racism reigns in every country, we are sending out a message of peace through the artists of the world,” said organizer Osama Mohammed.

Well, at least he wasn't named Jihad.

By the way, typo in line 2. I don't think the Treasury Secretary could order a bombing.

Yes, it's true. Donald Regan worked for Ronald Reagan.

Never forget, never forgive.

270 people died when Pan Am 103 was blown out of the sky over Lockerbie, Scotland on December 21, 1988. It was the worst-ever act of airline terrorism against the United States before September Eleven.

And I can't find a page with the names and the photos.

7 rabidsquirrel  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:26:17am

I'll be the first to step up an offer an apology on behalf of our late, great President:

"Mr. Gaddafi, I'm sorry we didn't kill you."

There, I feel better already.

LOL - Lionel Ritchie "Once, Twice, Three times ..."

So what is it with Lionel Ritchie? He seems to like abusive relationships. Didn't his wife kick his *ss a few years back?

9 amyc  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:26:37am

Lionel Richie? Nooo. I saw him in concert a long, long time ago, and he is a great performer. I even am known to my family as the "love song hater" but enjoyed his concert anyway.

Perhaps he needs to make some money to feed that starving daughter of his?

10 Sol Roth  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:27:27am

You knew that Lionel's Jericurl addiction had to catch up to him sooner or later.

Wasn't Gaddafi's daughter killed in the attack?

I wonder how soon before he'll don his purple warm-up suit, white captains hat and set out to sea for round 2. This time he gets a greeting from the USS Ronald Reagan.

Go Navy.

Lionel Ritchie is trying to send us a message, guys! Is anyone out there listening? Too bad Libya doesn't know we stopped listening to him right around 1987.

15 BeerDrinking_VictoryMonkey  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:29:23am

I remember it too. I also remember why we bombed Libya - it was in retaliation for their terrorist attack on a German disco which killed two of our servicemen. I also remember that Libya responded to our response with the Lockerbie bombing - which took over ten years? to "prosecute."

In short, our bombing of Libya was a great illustration of how not to fight terrorist states - don't go in for tit-for-tat punitive strikes, don't let the bastards stick around for another attack on us and don't persue a law enforcement angle. Iraq may be a deadly place, but it far less dangerous than having left Saddam in power to continue to plot & engage in more terrorist attacks.

16 obscured by clouds  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:29:51am

I will NEVER forget that we lost a plane and its crew b/c the French wouldn't allow us to fly over their air space. A$$holes.

It's been twenty years since Ghaddafi stirred up any real trouble thanks to his near-death-thanks-to-Reagan. It's too bad we didn't use cluster munitions. That would've given him a permanent attitude change.

17 Dar ul Harb  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:31:08am

Take it away, Lionel!

The bombing continued
It didn't slow down
The F-111s were pounding the ground
All night long
All night
All night long
All night
&tc.

Wasn't the Tripoli attack in retaliation for the bombing of a nightclub in Germany where a US soldier was killed?

Has Lybia apologized and made restitution for that?

And, OT, the US has frozen the assets of some Indonesian terrorists. The name of one of them is almost as good as Jihad:

The four targeted people are: Abu Bakar Ba'asyir, identified as the group's top leader; Gun Gun Rusman Gunawan, described as a leader and founder of a Jemaah Islamiyah group in Pakistan called Al-Ghuraba; Taufik Rifki, Jemaah Islamiyah's finance officer in the Philippines; and Abdullah Anshori, who served as the head of the Jemaah Islamiyah organization in Indonesia, which came to be known as Mantiqi II.

Another thing about kadaffi, quadafyi, wtf he's called. He's been dictator of Libya for what, 35-40 years, & he's still just a colonel? You'd think he'd have given himself a promotion by now. Idi Amin wasted no time in renaming himself as the Last King of Scotland.

"Compliant, but too expensive oh Great One."
"Loverboy?"
"Canadian."
"Lionel Ritchie?"
"Available , inexpensive AND American. Brilliant thinking powerful leader!"!

Divided by politics? How about being divided by Libya's proven support for terrorism? What a freakin' idiot. I have only one regret about the actions taken by our government, namely that Khadafi survived.

IIRC, the Tripoli sorties were arranged after conclusive evidence linked Qadaffi's henchmen to the Berlin *USO?* club bombing. They were dispatched from the USS Coral Sea, a WWII-era aircraft carrier that my brother served on as an EA-6B mechanic (it has since been decommisioned and replaced by the state-of-the-art USS Abraham Lincoln).

During the late 1980's & 1990's each time the Coral Seas would depart Norfolk for a Med cruise, Qadaffi would boast about how he was going to destroy her once she crossed into the waters of the Gulf of Sidra. Of course, the reaction of the Seamen and Marines was "Bring It, dumbass!"

Yes, the La Belle disco bombing was the casus belli... and yes, Libya admitted responsibility and paid compensation.

German Government Welcomes Conclusion of Negotiations on Compensating Victims of the La Belle Attack

Last week, victims filed suit against Libya for the 1986 Abu Nidal hijacking of Pan Am 73.

Lionel Ritchie is a dope. This will turn into some anti-American propraganda event with the the US taking another beating from the world wide Bulls*&^ Police. Hollywood people like Mr. Ritchie clearly don't care about how many Americans have to be injuried or die, they just want the money.

36 Bubbaman  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:45:49am

Wait until Qadafi finds out that Lionel's Zionest connections. His daughter Nicole was formerly engaged to a Joo (Adam Goldstein)and had reportedly dabbled in Kabbalah. Not to mention the well known fact that Lionel's music was purportedly once a staple at Jooish rituals otherwise known as Bar Mitzvahs...

37 kifaya  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:53:32am

a little OT...

Are transcripts for the Moussaoui trial available?

Does anyone know the reason as to why the trial isn't public consumption for the American people to see and hear for ourselves?

The MSM mouthpiece giving us their selective play-by-play and their little sketch scenes from the courtroom makes me sick.

38 Terp Mole  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:53:48am
JnT: Wasn't Gaddafi's daughter killed in the attack?

No. That is a big lie.

Kaddafi surrounded himself with "adopted" orphans, knowing their deaths would provide propaganda cover in the event anyone acted against him.

This is also why he uses female body guards. The sick bastard uses women and children as shields.

Would that Kaddafi's real daughter, Aisha, had been splashed.

She shops in London & Paris & made a fiery speech in Hyde Park in which she proclaimed the IRA fredeom fighters.
39 Curt  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:56:40am

Hey! I was there! Yep, I be a Gulf of Sidra Yacht Club charter member! If only I could relate a special story about just how "organized" the resistance was to the raid...but, that's still one for the later historians to find.

Anyhow, This is Part I of what is an 8 part posting so far, chronicling the jounrey of the USS COARL SEA (CV-43) and USS SARATOGA (CV-60) battle groups deployment from my view on one of the staffs assigned to keep the subs away from the force.

I plan to blog the night of the attack story tonight...

Make no mistake...we spanked him really good.

40 secsailor  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 7:59:35am

Anyone remember Robin Williams making fun of Gaddafi in his stand up act when Gaddafi was claiming all of the Gulf of Sidra as territorial waters?

Drawing an imaginary line on the stage with his foot, "You cross this line and you die!"

Stepping back a few feet and drawing another imaginary line, "Ok, you cross this line and you die!"

Stepping back again and making obscene gestures, "Ok, phooey on you, I go inside now!"

A few quick details: March 24th/25th was the shoot 'em up (read ducks in a barrel) of Libyan boats and radar sites. SARATOGA, with CCDG-8, Adm David Jerimiah, embarked and assigned as Battle Foce Zulu Commander; CORAL SEA, with CCG-2 Embarked, and AMERICA all on station in the central Med. After that, SARA retunred home and CORAL SEA and AMERICA air wings took on Benghazi, while the USAF FB-111s went to Tripoli. In both fights, the bad guys never reacted until after the weapons were dropped.

Lockerbie bomber receives exquisite care inside Kaddafi cafe while Mandela appeals for his release.

Kaddafi even bought his wife an estate in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Kaddafi is considered rehabilitated as he lectures us on democracy.

Terrorism pays-- handsomely.

At least the female Hollyweirdos have an excuse for being so stupid. Most of them haven't had a good, square meal in ages.

Gaddafi is like Lil Kim without the rugged good looks and stylish outfits. His version of the "Glorious Leader's Utopia" is also more dysfunctional.

We don't really get much in our news about what life is like in Libya, N. Korea, Cuba, or places like that because it would then be clear to the public how many nations are run by grievously insane megalomaniacs.

I almost forgot Niyazov of Turkmenistan. "All Hail The Glorious Leader And Wave His Pamphlet In Our Uniforms Facing The Giant Gold Statue of Our Batshi... Glorious Leader!"

Hey Lionel Bin Ritchie,

when are you doing that benefit concert for the disco bombing?

I am beginning to think we never should have invaded Iraq. We should have invaded Hollywood instead. After all, it is a hostile foreign land that has worked very hard against US interests for at least 40 years.

I remember the In Living Color show where a couple of the Wayans brothers were doing a bit about the invention of the jericurl. In it, one of them accidentally stands under a Ford Pinto on a lift (the charcater's name is "Jerry", IIRC), as the oil drain plug is removed, and used oil pours on his Afro.

Leave them to Team America: World Police.

Time for a sequel. Complete with Mo-ham-med cartoons. (Although we'll probably have to wait for the DVD release for that)

51 TalkinKamel  Thu, Apr 13, 2006 10:09:47am

Considering how many Hollywood glitterati support the other side, and are actively supporting tyrants and terrorists, can somebody, somewhere, do a list of those who are okay---and whose movies, and such, we don't need to boycott?

(Assuming there are enough of them left to make a list about?)

Also, can somebody do a similar list for conservative book writers?

while the USAF FB-111s went to Tripoli

They weren't FB-111s. Lakenheath sent F-111Fs and Upper Heyford sent EF-111s and F-111Es (the latter flew as spares and ended up not flying into Libya).

A plea for overthrowing Kaddafi from Libyan national;

True to His Terrorist Ways

Two decades later, little has changed. Qadhafi continues to support terrorism. While he sought Western grace for ransoming kidnapped hostages in March 2000, the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group then used the $25 million to amplify its terrorism. According to U.S. Pacific Command, "Speedboats used in other kidnappings were allegedly bought with the money, as was a rocket launcher that killed an army captain in pursuit of the fugitives." On March 23, 2006, Qadhafi feted Hamas political leader Khalid Mishaal in Tripoli. The Libyan strongman promised to fund Hamas, even as Mishaal pledges more terrorism.

At his second inauguration, President Bush declared, "It is the policy of the United States to seek and support the growth of democratic movements and institutions in every nation and culture, with the ultimate goal of ending tyranny in our world." Please, Mr. President. For my brother, for the Libyan people, and for the security of my adopted country, the United States, don't let Libya be an exception.

As if he'd ever want to?

Qadhafi: 'Bush Should be Allowed to Pray in Mecca'

Qadhafi challenged Muslim religious leaders to allow US President George W. Bush to enter the main mosque in Mecca and pray there, while considering him impure or a heretic.

"If [Muslim leaders] consider him impure, why do they befriend him and eat with him," Qadhafi asked.

Terrorists of the Muslim Brotherhood respond;

Salem Falahat, spiritual guide of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, told UPI on Wednesday, "We are used to President Qadhafi's crazes as he makes edicts as he pleases ... He invited Christians and Jews to enter the grand mosque in Mecca although he knows that such a thing is prohibited by Islamic laws."

He argued that Qadhafi might have made such declarations "only to outrage the Saudi authorities due to his country's tense relations with Saudi Arabia". Falahat said that he believes that there are political motives behind issuing the controversial edicts, which contradict religious texts.

56 Terp Mole  Fri, Apr 14, 2006 6:14:38am

Insane people are welcome in Mecca;

'George W Bush is insane'

The US "is a damned country, banished from divine mercy and deserving only of being cursed," said deputy Libyan parliament speaker Ahmed Ibrahim, speaking at a conference marking the 20th anniversary of deadly US air raids on the country's two biggest cities.
---
'America threatens Muslims'

"Bush is insane because he makes all sorts of threats and says all options are open when it comes to the Arab and Muslim worlds, particularly Syria and Iran.

"Who can have confidence in an America that has weapons of mass destruction, that threatens Muslims and insists on Syria leaving Lebanon?

"Why does the US not pull its forces out of Iraq, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf?"
