On Friday, the Islamic day of worship and Good Friday to Christians, knife-wielding Muslims stormed churches in Alexandria, Egypt, stabbing one person to death and wounding 12: One killed in Islamist attacks on Alexandria churches. (Hat tip: Big Pharaoh.)

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt (AFP) - Three knife-wielding Muslims attacked worshippers at Coptic churches in Egypt’s second city of Alexandria, killing one and wounding at least 12.

The assailants, each armed with two knives, mounted almost simultaneous attacks on churchgoers in three separate neighbourhoods and were later arrested, a police official said on condition of anonymity.

“The attacker stormed the church armed with a knife and shouted ‘There is no God but Allah’ and ‘Allah is the greatest’ before stabbing the worshippers,” one of the Mar Girgis church employees told an AFP reporter on the scene.

“We closed the doors of the church as soon as he started attacking the worshippers and we fought back with sticks but he tried to flee through one of the church’s underground passages,” said the witness, who asked to be named only as Ibrahim.

An Egyptian official told CNN the Islamist attackers were “insane.”

A police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the press, characterized the men as “insane” and said they were carrying tranquilizing medication.

 Frank says:

I was writing all kinds of positive and negative canons and weird inverted this and retrograde that and getting as spaced-out mathematically as I could and I was going "Wait a minute (laughs), who cares about that stuff?" I had always liked rhythm and blues so here I was stuck between the slide rule and the gut bucket somewhere and I decided that I would opt for a third road someplace in between. -- From an 1972 interview to Martin Perlich.
