Progressive Smear of the Day

Here’s a perfect example of why I removed Little Green Footballs from the Online Integrity Statement, as Chris Bowers at Nutroots site MyDD lashes out defensively: Online Integrity, and Other Things I Will Not Be Signing.

Bowers smears me in typical disingenuous “progressive” fashion, building a straw man by saying that I accused those who didn’t sign the pledge of “lacking in moral integrity.”

This accusation is based on seven words I wrote: “Note the absence of some major players.” You won’t find anything about “moral integrity” in those seven words, and you don’t see a specific blogger mentioned. The “moral integrity” charge is a complete fabrication by Bowers. On the contrary, I made a simple observation, without singling out either left- or right-wing blogs—a simple observation that clearly touched a very sensitive nerve in the “reality-based” community.

UPDATE at 5/4/06 7:25:41 am:

For the record, since Bowers also conjectures that I was somehow responsible for the Statement of Principles, I had nothing to do with creating it. I signed on to see if this might be one of the rare cases where left and right blogosphere could find common ground—and discovered very quickly that it wasn’t going to be.
