Lie Like an Egyptian (Or Like AFP)

You almost have to laugh at this ridiculously transparent maneuver from Egypt, pretending that the Arab-sponsored “road map” is viable, just slightly “outdated:” Egypt says Mideast peace ‘roadmap’ outdated, needs change.

CAIRO (AFP) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit has said that the Middle East peace “roadmap” needed to be modified and called on the Palestinians to clarify their position towards its principles.

“The roadmap needs to be modified because its expiry date was last year in 2005,” Abul Gheit said at a conference in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

Palestinians need to “create a clear workplan to define the Palestinian Authority’s position on the principles fixed by the Quartet,” Abul Gheit said Saturday.

“The language of negotiation is the only way to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” he said.

The Palestinians have carried out absolutely none of their obligations under the so-called “road map,” yet AFP still blatantly lies that it’s Israel who “rejected” it.

The Arab peace initiative, which was adopted by the Arab Summit in Beirut in 2002, calls for normalizing relations with Israel in exchange for an Israeli withdrawal from the Palestinian territories according to the 1967 borders.

The initiative, which also calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state, has been rejected by Israel which is aiming to set its final borders with or without Palestinian agreement by 2010.
