On a day when news comes out supporting the theory that Iran has a secret parallel program for enriching uranium to bomb-grade level, the UN’s blind, toothless nuclear watchdog says Iran has “legitimate” security concerns and valid reasons for wanting nuclear weapons: US must address Iran security concerns: IAEA. (Hat tip: incanus.)

THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Iran has legitimate security concerns that the United States must address if the crisis over Tehran’s nuclear programme is to be resolved, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog said on Friday.

“This is primarily a regional security issue,” Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) he told a debate in The Hague.

“Iran is surrounded by countries that have nuclear weapons, Russia has nuclear weapons, Pakistan has nuclear weapons, Israel has nuclear weapons, Iraq has used chemical weapons against them. There is a sense of insecurity,” he said.

“When you talk about the Iranian issue, the only solution is a package that should inter alia include security issues.”

UPDATE at 5/12/06 8:50:21 am:

As the Simon Wiesenthal Center points out, Iran’s reason for wanting nukes is simple: to annihilate Israel. And they are not even trying to hide it. Why should they, when shills like ElBaradei will do it for them?

 Frank says:

Interviewer:
The notion of a "guitar solo" has preconceptions based on it; people automatically refute it because it's supposed to be self-indulgent or "for musicians." It's almost like things become iconographic and somehow lose their value for outsiders.

Zappa:
Well, whose fault is that? That's what writers do. Musicians don't do that. The average person doesn't sit around thinking about the "iconographic problems of a guitar solo." -- Interview for Musician magazine, by Matt Resnicoff, November 1991. Reprinted in July 1995 Issue.
