Iran, UN, EU come to agreement on nukes
Al-Roto-Reuters
Munich, 5/25/2006

Secret meetings between the EU, UN, and Iran have resulted in an agreement. Holding a piece of paper, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan announced "Mideast peace in our time". Iranian negotiator Abdul Stranjilovjihad stated "We have come to an agreement that removes the necessity for Iran to develop its own nuclear fuel cycle. We will stop work on all nuclear research in a few days."
All negotiators left before giving details, however.

Further rumors indicate that the EU will supply Iran with two or three nuclear weapons, "for peaceful purposes". French negotiator Philippe Pétain said that these will be used to remove all obstacles to peace in the Mideast, especially some "[unprintable] little country"

Okay, open thread. Here's my chance to say something that's been bugging me for a while which the fence thread sheered by, vaguely. (OT)

Did you know that Congresspersons and government employees don't pay Social Security? They have a somewhat similar program, but it's special, just for them. I bet the financial arrangements are considerably different since the government never ever fires anyone (and if they do, they hire them back with years of back pay - ask me the story if you want) so their number employed is always growing.

I've been thinking, if they don't participate in Social Security, where do they get of legislating it? I mean, there is not ONE PERSON in Congress that pays Social Security. Isn't that taxation without representation? Whatever they do with the idiotic program isn't going to affect THEM. Someone should raise hell about it. I guess lots of people raise hell about Social Security in general, but I have a hard time trusting people to make good decisions who have no personal stakes in it. Or... less than the average citizen, anyway.

It aint the congresspersons we should worry about (they paid more for that job than they could ever hope to get back from SS). It's all those other govt employees that vote these preening pricks in to keep their jobs and perks that screw up the system.

IIRC there have been several attempts to change SS to something resembling the program that congress enjoys and every time they shot it down. I believe that GW's plan to modernize SS was one of those attempts. It's the old "do what I say, not what I do" thingy.
Sucks don't it?

39 really grumpy big dog johnson  Thu, May 25, 2006 6:16:49pm

#30 girl_next_door

Actually, it's representation without taxation. And if your think that more than 3-4% of all government employees don't pay social security taxes, you are dead wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I see your beef. But to include all workers in the public sector in that statement is wrong. Some people don't pay social security, as if we really need their contributions.

I appreciate your contribution, but you have to understand, for most of us, your assumption is just plain wrong.

Do y'all realize what they slipped in under Specter's "manager's amendment" to the immigration bill? We have to consult with the Mexican government before building a wall:

The Senate by Cboldt blog reports:

UPDATE @ 17:16 - Senator Specter notes that the managers package is ready for a vote, he says that it (the package) makes making sausage look good. Senator Kyl asks to speak for one minute on the managers amendment. He says it has been in busy negotiations, right up until now. Federal, state and local entities in the US would be required to consult with Mexican government before building a wall. I predict this amendment, S.Amdt.4188, will pass. Off to find the language that Senator Kyl referred to.
UPDATE @ 17:23 - Found it. Senator Dodd talked against a fence on May 18, and his S.Amdt.4089 contains the following language:

(b) CONSULTATION REQUIREMENT.--Consultations between United States and Mexican authorities at the federal, state, and local levels concerning the construction of additional fencing and related border security structures along the United States-Mexico border shall be undertaken prior to commencing any new construction, in order to solicit the views of affected communities, lessen tensions and foster greater understanding and stronger cooperation on this and other important issues of mutual concern.

UPDATE @ 17:40 - Bonus prediction (the managers' amendment), now four for four. Senator Frist voted against the managers' amendment, for what it's worth.

S.Amdt.4188 - Specter: Managers' amendment, a collection of amendments, including Dodd's S.Amdt.4089 that requires local, state and federal governments to consult with Mexican counterpart authorities before commencing new construction, was PASSED on a 56 - 41 vote.

I stand corrected. My dad's worked for the Federal government since I was tiny, and he doesn't pay Social Security. I didn't know it was so exclusive of a thing. But I do know none of the Congressmen pay it, and they're the ones voting on how to fix the dang thing, so that's what irks me. It doesn't bother me that some people are on another system, just that no one who IS on the system is directly involved in fixing it.

And really, we COULD be involved. I mean, I could pelt my congresspeople daily with my opinions and advice (not that they'd necessarily listen) but I'm too lazy. ;)

I guess I just found it ironic. Not trying to be uselessly irascible.

Is this a great country or what?

Interesting from Michael Barone...

But of course it was the press, led by the editorialists of the New York Times, that bayed loudly for investigation and prosecution of government officials who disclosed the name of CIA operative Valerie Plame, even though it was far from clear that there was any violation of the statute in question, the Intelligence Identities Protection Act of 1982. The press, or large parts of it, is all for prosecution—even if it leads, as it did, to the jailing of then New York Times reporter Judith Miller—if such a prosecution will hurt the Bush administration. On that one, it was the press that was hurtling down "a dangerous road." The Times and Post reporters and editors who published the stories I referenced above are at the very least in the same legal position as Judith Miller; that is, they are witnesses to acts that are in violation of statute and may be jailed for contempt if they refuse to testify against those who illegally disclosed classified information. At worst, they stand in the same legal position as the two former AIPAC officials, who received the information and passed it along to others—and perhaps are in a worse position, since those two defendants argue, quite possibly plausibly, that they did not know that the information they received was classified, while the Times and Post editors clearly did have such knowledge. There's a strong argument against prosecuting the press on these grounds, that doing so is going down "a dangerous road." But the press, which after all has knowledge of the Franklin and former AIPAC officials' prosecutions and the fact that Congress has not repealed the statutes responsible for them, has been going down "a dangerous road," too.

The last time the West had Open cities bombed by Rockets with 1800 to 2,000 lb. warheads, (it only takes 15 lbs of Plutonium OR about 150 lbs of 80% enriched Uranium U-235 plus a few hundred pounds of shielding and guidance and it only takes one),

50 % of the rockets hit the cities, speed 3500 mph, 4 seconds to target,

25% e.g. 2,500 of the "cruise missiles" got through, 5,500 died, 16,000 wounded... from the V-1, very effective terror weapon. They had a Crude but workable guidance system

It took some really big bombs, and an invasion to stop them

They send me their screeds on why the nation HAS to have a guest worker program, why we can't send them home, why we can't build a wall...etc. etc. Not one of them listens. I've told them that in being scared they might lose a Hispanic vote, they're losing hundreds of thousands of their base's votes. I've promised Martinez I will not vote for him again. Absolutely bizarre story of the day:

X-Ray reveals alien head inside duck's gizzard.

Photo of alien head in gizzard.

But when they did an autopsy -- the head was gone!

As if crop circles weren't proof enough that extraterrestrials are among us, an alien has now been found in the stomach of a duck.

That, at least, is the conclusion reached by workers at the International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia (Solano County) when they viewed an X-ray image they took of a sick mallard.

Right there, in the duck's ventriculus, or gizzard, is the shocking image of a grimacing, bald-headed being. How it got there, nobody knows, but when an autopsy was performed after the bird died of unrelated causes, the alien had mysteriously disappeared.

We cut and run from Somalia and accomplished 2 things -

1) Emboldened Al Qaeda and thereby brought on 9/11, and

2) Destroyed any hope of a stable government to emerge for a generation, thereby ensuring a generational civil war.

And liberals want us to cut and run from Iraq? how would Iraq or the region benefit from that?

Sheikh Haitham al-Haddad: "No, not necessarily. Islam is a practice. It is not just a claim. Islam is a way of life. So, we practice Islam in our daily life in every inch and each aspect. It's not just a claim and then we can do whatever we want. No."
Reporter: "So [pointing to Mohammed Image Archive pages] these pictures were wrong."
Sheikh Haitham al-Haddad: "Of course. Hundred percent wrong."

For the last 20 minutes or so, I noticed the site loaded very slowly, but seems to have cleared up, now. I also noticed earlier tonight that when I X-out of checking someone's football (I'm tallying my posts, and there are newbies), my browser froze a couple times.

Yes, that, but other things too. They've been catching some flak from people mocking them for having inferior photo coverage to a lowly blogger. People have started to make a habit out of sending links to my stuff to the Chronicle, just to get their guff and rile them up.

The one thing the Chronicle has got going for it now is they hired Cinnamon Stillwell to do an occasional column.

The U.S. Embassy has learned of a possible threat against American facilities in Japan, the credibility of which has yet to be determined. Given the upcoming Memorial Day holiday, we advise American citizens to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities to authorities.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the State Dept.'s Bureau of Consular Affairs web site, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S., or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. "Riots in Tehran Universities: 'We Don't Want Nuclear Energy'"

Several media outlets in Iran reported, albeit in a restricted and censured fashion, that there has been rioting on several university campuses in Tehran for the past four days. The reformist Internet daily Rooz reported that over 500 members of riot-control units have besieged the Tehran University campus, and that there have been clashes between rioting students and Basij and police forces.

The riots broke out following a student protest over what appeared to be a purge of the academic faculty of Tehran University. This coincided with the marking of the "Second of Khordad," the day of the Persian month of Khordad on which Mohammad Khatami was first elected president of Iran (May 23, 1997). [1]

During the riots, eight student leaders were arrested, and, according to eyewitnesses quoted in Rooz, 25 of those under siege in the campus were wounded, five of them severely. Eyewitnesses reported that students were chanting anti-regime slogans, such as "We don't want nuclear energy" and "Forget Palestine - think of us."

The eyewitnesses also reported that Iranian security forces fired live bullets, and that shots were fired at homes outside the university. One of the students told Rooz: "The university campus is on fire, raids are being conducted throughout the campus, and the students are in fear and anxiety... Gunfire is heard from all directions... There is blood everywhere." [2] The university's telephone lines were reported to have been cut.

According to other eyewitnesses, "police riot-control units entered the campus with helmets, shields, and clubs, and beat students so severely that many can't even walk." A campus security guard told a Rooz reporter: "We were told that we were permitted to use violence against the students, but not to hit them on their heads or their faces, in order to avoid leaving marks. We were told not to be respectful towards any student, unless he is a member of the Basij student union."

One of the students said: "They are sending more riot-control forces [into the campus]. I estimate that they are about 3,000 strong... There is also an intensive presence of Ansar-e Hizbullah forces in vehicles or on motorcycles. They have also brought in several fire trucks [to disperse the students]..." [3] One of the reporters said: "Reporters who came to cover the events were stopped by university security guards, and none were permitted to enter [the campus]." [4]

Local police claim that only 100 students were involved in the riots, but according to eyewitnesses quoted by Rooz, the riots involved some 3,000 of the 4,000 students attending the main campus, and another 2,000 from the law and political science campus. [5]

[...] According to Kayhan, the demonstration organizers are not even students but are from outside the university. [6]

Morteza Talai, commander of the Tehran Metropolitan Police, told the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) that "at 9:30 PM, 100 students gathered at the campus gates, and 20 or 30 of them started throwing stones, sticks and firebombs at homes in the area." The report continued: "[Talai said that] the police reacted with restraint, and, until 5:30 AM, made efforts to curb the demonstrators throwing the firebombs... but [the students] paid no heed... Only in the morning did the police raid [the campus], and by 7:00 AM, it had made arrests and cleared the area, with the help of municipal forces... During this activity, three students were injured while attempting to climb onto the roof of the dormitory building."

Two-Hundred Year Old Tree Poisoned in Australia.

First, I pictured Islamists doing this. Then I pictured newly-indoctrinated Marxists fresh from the classroom. What better way to bring on The New Order -- either the Sharia utopia, or the Postmodern utopia -- than destroying the institutions and memories of the existing order you want to subvert/destroy.

I doubt it was a sheep farmer.

Scum.

Well, that wasn't the situation. On that last Mexico border/immigration thread, a commentor held forth that what was need was automated weapons to gun down every man, woman or child approaching the border. A number of folks took issue with this idea. Charles entered at post # 401, IIRC, and expressed the opinion that the commentor should use their freedom of speech to post those ideas elsewhere. The commentor in question, not known for apologies, got real meek, real quick.

Kiss from a Starfish
(Originally Kiss from a Rose, by Seal)

There used to be a decent Techie who sat next to me
He became the ideal I wanted to be
Truth is that talent's what kills, not the LART
But did you know that by the phone
My eyes become large
And the truth that you told can't be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from the Black Widow death
Ooh, the more I hear from you, the stranger it sounds yeah
Now that your lie's in full bloom
My head hits the dent in my desk

There's just so much a tech can tell you
So much he can say
You remain my death grip, my starfish, my pain
Baby, To me, you're like a growing
cancer that I can't deny
Won't you tell me, is that healthy, baby?

But did you know that by the phone
My eyes become large
And the truth that you told can't be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from the Black Widow death
Ooh, the more I hear from you, the stranger it sounds yeah
Now that your lie's in full bloom
My head hits the dent in my desk

I've been kissed by the starfish of Death
I've been kissed by the starfish of Death
And if I should LART, will it all go away?

There's just so much a tech can tell you
So much he can say
You remain my death grip, my starfish, my pain

Baby, To me, you're like a growing
cancer that I can't deny
Won't you tell me, is that healthy, baby?

I work in Technical support for a ISP for the end user.

Starfish is the term user by many techies for the Stoopid End User. Starfish being barely capable of sensory perception, eating and drecking and having no higher cognitive functions. And we have to walk these creatures through setting up networks, email, getting on the Web, setting up VIOP, configuring firewalls, setting secure wireless networks. Getting the Jist?

Not all users are Starfish. But a lot of them are Starfish. And they can't be bothered to learn how the web works or they computers. Many of these people think of a computer like a toaster. And want it to be that easy

Norton, Mcaffee, ZoneAlarm are four letter words at work. I would never do that to a User. Well...maybe a Starfish if they got on my nerves.

I usually recommend AVG Anti-Virus or Kaspersky AV for users I like. Both are not very well known AV programms outside of the tech community. Because we try to keep them from being targetted by Virus makers. both work better than the big three IMHO

Carry on my wayward tech
There'll be peace self respect
Lay your old headset to rest

Once I rose above the neeps and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion
My IQ was soaring ever higher
But it went too high

Though my phone I could see they still was a Starfish
Though my mind could think they had an IQ of a trashcan
I can hear their voices when I'm dreaming
I can hear them say

Carry on my wayward tech
There'll be peace self respect
Lay your old headset to rest
Don't you cry no more

Masquerading as a tech with a reason
I might LART them a bit just to get even
And if you claim to be a dumb schmuck
It surely means that you don't know
On a Windows screen I still have a notion
That you took some kind of stupidity potion
You ask if I am making a fortune
But I hear the voices say

Carry on my wayward tech
There'll be peace self respect
Lay your old headset to rest
Don't you cry no more

No!

Carry on
You will always remember
Carry on
Nothing equals the splendor
Now your life's no longer empty
Now they will hang up on you

Carry on my wayward tech
There'll be peace self respect
Lay your old headset to rest
Don't you cry no more

I can usually (with help) figure out a lot of the PC stuff. It's the Unix stuff I have to call in support for. And this particular software suite is more full of bugs than an ants' nest. I THINK I hit one of those bugs last trip, but I didn't have time to really run it down. When I get back, I'll check it out more carefully. I didn't encounter that problem in previous versions and the software SHOULD work.

Yes Jewels,

I've just discovered that my PC-fixer-guy put a lot of new stuff in my computer. Wondering how brave I am on only two cups of coffee...

Ad Watch SE Professional
Ad Ware SE Professional
Nero (what's that?)
O&O Software
Spybot
Trillian Pro (?)
WinRAR

What is all this stuff?!

/somebody help me...

If it is a bug, it's in the application software. The OS (so far as I know) is fine. An OS problem couldn't produce this particular error.

281 MigueldowninMexico  Fri, May 26, 2006 12:30:01am

Mike
AVG lets you know exactly which virus and where it's embeded. I don't know if for all viruses, but I've had it for more than a year, and everything's fine with my comp. It lets you manually remove the viruses if they come -again- embeded in a zip or something.
But I don't know if it works for Unix. I don't know the first thing about Unix. I didn't get that you were talking about that lol.

282 Jewels (AKA Julian)  Fri, May 26, 2006 12:30:28am

Little Old LAdy

Ad aware SE is a top drawer anti-spyware software. I have it on my PC. Ad Watch I've never used, Perhaps a spyware flash add killer?

Nero is CD/DVD burning spftware (very good)

O&O software. Well that's possibly one of six things, but it's a decent tool producer, so It can't be bad.

Spybot = Another anti spyware software.

Trillian Pro is the paid for version ofa Chat Client that allows you to use AIM, YIM, ICQ, MSNIM, and a few other chat programs rolled into one application. Very nice stuff.

WinRAR = A popular Zip program alloing you to compress and store or send files

283 littleoldlady  Fri, May 26, 2006 12:33:31am

Jewels,

Thanks! WHEW! So I can (maybe should) run this stuff. That's a relief! Looks like I still have Symantec virus protection, though.

You should definitely run the AdAware and Spybot software regularly. Cleans spyware/malware stuff off your computer. The Ad Watch is an adware blocker, which stops at least some adware from getting in in the first place. I have those on my machines.

291 littleoldlady  Fri, May 26, 2006 12:47:58am

Mikey,

I used to have Ewido - someone here recommended it - and actually have the disk around here somewhere, because I paid for it after the initial trial. I don't know anything about its "goodness", but it sure made cool noises when it found adware.

I've had only AVG as anti-virus for over a year and no problem. It updates everyday, when you go in line. So it's always up to date.
I don't think you need another anti virus like Symantec.

"Zionist mischief"!

How utterly typical. He's trying to subsume Christians under Islam while dissing Jews. 1,350+ years and the playbook never changes. Worst of all, it still works on many Christians. I guess they're buying into replacement theology, post-1967 War propaganda, or old-fashioned Jew hatred.

Well, after my last fiasco, I'm a little gun shy about doing anything to this computer. Even touching it cause me to break out the Psalms! ;-)

Meanwhile, the question I've been meaning to ask Jewels two days running is this: I get an error message on some websites. I think it's a java or some kind of script error. The little window asks me if I want to debug. "Sure. Go ahead." I tell it. The debugger runs, and then stops at a break.

I don't know what to do after that because it's all in code (looks like html code, but don't quote me).

But M. Ali Chaudry, president of the Center for Understanding Islam in Basking Ridge, contends that, though cultural differences exist, they are often not as severe as presented. It is often overlooked that imbalances in power between coinciding cultures underlie most vehement religious and cultural conflicts, like the riots that took place after the publication of the Muhammad cartoons.

"For people's lives to be fulfilled, you need to have control over the means of your living," said Chaudry. "The more people who are able to do for themselves and have control over their lives, the less they will be concerned with others' concerns."

Social and economic policies, particularly in Europe, have made it difficult for Muslims to achieve financial self-sufficiency and have consequently resulted in an increased sense of desperation, Chaudry said. He suggests that increased access to education and financial sustenance would improve relations.

"Islam itself does not need reformation," he said. Instead, "if people understand that you can communicate your words instead of going in the streets and burning cars – they will be able to do that. But the tradition has been that people who have been oppressed ... if you feel like no one is hearing your voice, you feel you have to do something to get people's attention."

Yes I believe in that.
The Anti-Christ is in the future. We don't know when he'll show up. The End may be near, but it also may be in thousands of years.
But the Western World will keep on living and moving, and making good and bad things, etc. etc. as long as there's history.
The Lord said that He will protect His Church all the time, not only in the End Times.
We have to be thankful for that :)

However, we're in complete agreement about the ultimate victory.

Well, there's never enough time to do the damned work, so that's almost a necessity. The client pays my expenses 7 days a week, so it's more cost effective if I work 7 days a week. I can't go home for the weekend or anything, so it makes sense to work straight through and then take a substantial break. Besides, people can get used to damn near anything, you know. Lots of small business owners work 7 days a week.

Morning lizards. It's Friday so it's Krauthammer:
Say No to Tehran's Gambit

You (the EU allies) want us to talk? Fine. We will go there, but only if you arm us with the largest stick of all: your public support for military action if the talks fail. The mullahs already fear economic sanctions; they will fear European-backed U.S. military action infinitely more. Such negotiations might actually accomplish something.

Nice idea. Not going to happen.

And E.J. Dionne, usually a useful tool for the Kerry-nauts, actually makes a few good points today too

A debate beyond the fence

Advocates of a more liberal policy toward illegal immigrants need to take seriously the discontent that the anti-immigration movement has tapped into. Immigration has been a blessing to the United States, but it is not an unmixed blessing, and the costs of our immigration policies are borne more heavily by some parts of our society than others

'BEING JACQUES CHIRAC': SPOOF MOVIE CRUCIFIES FRENCH LEADER

No French television network would touch the movie, the first to ridicule a serving French president, even though it is being released in a political climate dominated by what the left-wing newspaper Liberation calls "Chiracophobia: the new national sport".
Earlier this year, the best-selling book "The Tragedy of the President", by political journalist Franz-Olivier Giesbert, blamed Chirac for a national drift into inertia, division and debt.

Religion as a weapon
Faith has often been mixed with politics to justify genocide

While Iraq is being moved in a democratic direction, Muslim clerics encourage the young to form new militias and, like the Steel Helmets (Stahlhelm), Free Corps (Freikorps), and the Red Army militia of Weimar Germany, they dominate the streets and public places. Are not moderate Arabs likewise putting the sledgehammer into the hands of radical Muslims? And has not the latter's political religiosity become an analogous tool for the destruction of democracies the world over? It matters little that the technology of destruction available to radical Muslims differs in detail from that applied by the Nazis to destroy Jews. Like Nazi ideologues who were primarily tied to their desks or pulpits, so Muslim clerics are not psychopaths or technocrats of terror. Both groups of ideologues, Germans then and Arabs now, combined a romantic völkisch (populist) utopianism with a chilling rationality that, like money, was earmarked for death and destruction.

Thanks, Jim

405 JammieWearingFool  Fri, May 26, 2006 3:14:52am

Morning all.

Interesting piece by JPod in the NY Post today.

I see the man o' the peeps has gotten rich on Google stock, as if we needed another reason to avoid Google.

Algore: Populist Prophet

WELCOME to the Al Gore boomlet.

The release of the hagiographic new documentary about his global-warming crusade has turned Gore into a latter-day Jeremiah, warning us about our corrupt ways and our need to reform lest we reap the whirlwind.

This image dovetails nicely with the Populist Prophet Al Gore, the guy who popped up last year ranting like Howard Beale in "Network" about "digital brown shirts" whose supposedly fascistic domination of the public discussion means "America's democracy is at grave risk."

Arianna Huffington, among others, has grown besotted with Gore's newfound "authenticity," and contrasts it with Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's "triangulation" and "phoniness." New York magazine slapped Gore's face on the cover and dubbed him "The Anti-Hillary."

Something else is whetting the appetites of Democrats and Leftists for a possible Gore challenge to his former boss's wife. There's talk that Gore has oceans of Google stock and stock options, which he could cash in for hundreds of millions of dollars and thereby self-finance a bid for the presidency.

Ah, to think of it! Such a self-financed bid would be free from the baleful influence of corporate monsters and Wall Street titans who drain the life's blood from Democrats running for national office and seek to turn them into DINOs - Democrats in name only. The liberated Gore could run an anti-war, anti-warming, anti-corporate campaign that would represent an entirely new direction for the Democratic Party.

Gore's fan club clearly believes the Real Al Gore isn't the cautious Southern moderate who served as an elected politician for 22 years. Rather, Gore's defeat in 2000 let him be reborn as a kind of political holy man who speaks his heart, a fearless advocate of "inconvenient truths" that the powerful and well-connected don't want to hear.

This is a Democrat-Leftist fantasy of salvation. The Ariannas of the world are seeking salvation from the political trends of the past 25 years, which favor candidates who are willing to garb themselves in moderate and centrist clothing to get elected. They also desire salvation from the potential anguish of having to support a frontrunner named Clinton who voted for the war in Iraq.

Wow,

This from the Danish paper Ekstrabladet [my transalation - yes, I read Danish, lol]:

According to the chairman of the Iraqi olympic Committee, wearing shorts was the reason for the death of the country's nat'l tennis coach and two players, according to AFP.

The coach, Hussein Ahmed Rashid, was together with the players Nasser Ali Hatem and Wissam Adel Auda shot down in front of his home in the al-Saidiyah neighborhood in southern Bagdad.

an eyewitness reports that the shorts-clad men were dropping of a load of laundry when armed men stopped their car and made the three men exit the vehicle. Two of the tennis profiles were immediately shot in the heads, while the third was pulled from the car, thrown on top of his dead teammates and then shot. The killers then kicked the dead bodies, stole the victims' vehicle and left the scene.

A witness further states that lately flyers with warnings against wearing shorts had been circulating

I hope you and all LGFers enjoy the weekend.

THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP WELL TO THE WEST OF THE TRI STATE AREA THIS MORNING...THEN MOVE INTO AREAS JUST NORTH AND WEST OF NEW YORK CITY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. THE STORMS WILL THEN PROGRESS EASTWARD FROM THERE THROUGH THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON HOURS... REACHING NEW YORK CITY...WESTERN CONNECTICUT...AND WESTERN LONG ISLAND BY MID AFTERNOON. A FEW OF THE THUNDERSTORMS MAY BECOME SEVERE WITH DAMAGING WINDS BEING THE MAIN THREAT... ALTHOUGH ISOLATED LARGE HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE. ANY THUNDERSTORM WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY HEAVY DOWNPOURS AND FREQUENT CLOUD TO GROUND LIGHTNING THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

I do NOT enjoy yard work. I just have to do it, is all. Yes, back in VA - that's where my yard is. Well, except for the one in OK, but somebody else is responsible for that one.

Am I the only one who thought "Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball"?

realwest,

Your summary seems correct. Not sure whether Bunglawala is an actual Reuters employee, but he appears to be the author of that email to Charles.

I have a hunch Charles will be back at it early today and we'll get an update.

I will say every possible variartion of the word bung was used last night. I only made it until around 10 pm ET, so there are hundreds more comments. And the register wa sopen last night so a lot of newbies arrived.

Hey {BEFF}!

Today I'll either be headed out of town or I'll be headed to a funeral. Either way- it's going to be a long afternoon. But the rest of my weekend should be fun...
