 RetweetAlarming Palestinian Crisis Watch

Tue, Jun 13, 2006 at 8:19:48 pm PDT

UNICEF says there’s a major crisis with medical supplies for children in the Palestinian Authority: Aid needs to triple to counteract ‘alarming’ Palestinian crisis: UNICEF.

UNICEF said that most staff were continuing to turn up for work despite receiving little or no pay but that supplies were running dangerously short.

The UN agency said stocks of critical medicines were “at or near zero levels” in May, with care for newborn babies a particular problem.

“One in three babies in hospital in Gaza risks dying simply because there is no medicine,” said Personnaz.

And there’s no medicine because Hamas refused Israel’s offer to buy medical supplies with PA tax money.

And yet, someone in the PA seems to have enough cash on hand to pay for 111 truckloads of televisions in time for the World Cup.
