Today’s individual time trial in the Tour de France is going to determine the winner, and as I write this Floyd Landis is turning in the ride of his life and is poised to take the yellow jersey…

Updates here at the official TdF site: Tour de France 2006: Newsflashes.

UPDATE at 7/22/06 8:31:39 am:

Fantastic. Landis takes third in the time trial — but Oscar Pereiro (the leader at the start) is now about a minute behind Landis in the overall standings. And that means tomorrow we’ll have an American on the podium at the Tour de France for the eighth year in a row.

The French TdF committee tried to stack the deck at the last minute by ousting Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso, two of the strongest riders in the world. That strategy paid off about as well as the Maginot Line.

 Frank says:

You don't have the slightest understanding of the difference between government action and private action, and you have certainly destroyed any case you might otherwise have had with this Senator. -- Senator Gorton, to which Frank Zappa responds with "Is this private action?"
