By JPOST.COM STAFF

Jordan's King Abdullah II asserted that the situation in the situation in the Middle East would continually deteriorate unless Israel and the Arab states could reach a peace agreement.

"The Lebanon that we knew is dead now," the king told the BBC, "The challenge for us is do we have a chance to build a new page for Lebanon, a good one, or is it going to go into a destructive mode and suck the rest of us in."

Earlier, the position of the "sitting" corpse and the one beside it (appears to have a leg raised) have been attributed to possible riga mortis. Which is unlikely, from what I have read, to be that advanced for corpses supposedly only a couple of hours old.

Earlier, the position of the "sitting" corpse and the one beside it (appears to have a leg raised) have been attributed to possible riga mortis.

I'd also think it unlikely that out of group of bodies who were all supposedly killed simultaneously, ONE is showing full-blown rigor mortis, the rest none.

Another possibility is that John Edwards administered emergency embryonic stem cell treatment to that one guy, allowing him to come back to life.

New zombietime roundup of the whole scandal!

Reuters Commits Four Types of Fraud

An overview of the photo hoaxes committed by Reuters, discovered so far

The recent discovery that the Reuters news agency released a digitally manipulated photograph as an authentic image of the bombing in Beirut has drawn attention to the important topic of bias in the media. But lost in the frenzy over one particular image is an even more devastating fact: that over the last week Reuters has been caught red-handed in an astonishing variety of journalistic frauds in the photo coverage of the war in Lebanon.

This page serves as an overview of the various types of hoaxes, lies and other deceptions perpetrated by Reuters in recent days, since the details of the scandal are getting overwhelmed by a torrent of shallow mainstream media coverage that can easily confuse or mislead the viewer. Almost all of the investigative work has been done by cutting-edge blogs, but the proliferation of exposés might overwhelm the casual Web-surfer, who might be getting the various related scandals mixed up. In this essay I hope to straighten it all out.

It's important to understand that there is not just a single fraudulent Reuters photograph, nor even only one kind of fraudulent photograph. There are in fact dozens of photographs whose authenticity has been questioned, and they fall into four distinct categories.

The four types of photographic fraud perpetrated by Reuters photographers and editors are:

1. Digitally manipulating images after the photographs have been taken.

2. Photographing scenes staged by Hezbollah and presenting the images as if they were of authentic spontaneous news events.

3. Photographers themselves staging scenes or moving objects, and presenting photos of the set-ups as if they were naturally occurring.

4. Giving false or misleading captions to otherwise real photos that were taken at a different time or place.

All of these forms of fraud have the same intent: to serve as propaganda for Hezbollah, and to make the Israeli attacks look as brutal as possible. And, taken together, they raise a very serious question: can any of the coverage by the entrenched media by trusted?

Let's examine each type of fraud, with the photographic evidence itself:

...etc.

DC Watson FPM Interview excerpts: "Truth is not Bigotry"

FP: What are your thoughts about CAIR?
Watson: Like flies at a picnic, they’ve certainly done an outstanding job of making pests of themselves. In all actuality, it is my opinion that they are talking puppets for the promoters of Wahhabism (Islam’s most radical form), that all in all they are bad for this country, and that it is not the American flag that they would like to see flying all around Washington, D.C.

This can certainly be verified by their tactics (which have included filing lawsuits in attempts to intimidate and quiet their critics), and many of the public statements made by their leadership, which have been nothing shy of disgraceful. Appeasing them only emboldens them. They are undeserving of having that type of luxury handed to them. Instead, confronting them at every turn has been more effective, because when they’re challenged with the facts they have no argument.

Thankfully, CAIR has been consistently challenged by quite formidable opponents such as Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Steve Emerson, Andrew Whitehead, Michelle Malkin, Joe Kaufman, and many others who are well known in the ever growing anti-jihad community. They are the ones who people now gravitate toward, because they not only speak the truth about Islam and organizations like CAIR, but because they don’t sugar coat anything. What they have said in the past has come true. What they have predicted would happen, has happened. Without their knowledge, and willingness to share it, the West would be much less informed about groups like the CAIR and other like minded organizations.

Instead of them being permitted to conduct “Muslim sensitivity” classes for American law enforcement” (which is a curious issue in itself, especially with their public record), they should be conducting classes to help Muslims assimilate into American society. And by that I don’t mean distributing “Muslim community safety kits” or presenting “know your rights” workshops, but actually assisting Muslims who are new to America in learning how to be Americans. I’m not holding my breath waiting for that to happen though, because I’m not sure that they can teach anyone how to be an American when they don’t behave like they know how to themselves... [T]he Imams in the mosques are an undeniable problem. There have been documented reports showing that literature preaching hate for the United States and for Americans has been found in approximately 80% of the mosques in America. This literature was reported to have been bought and paid for by the Saudis. If the Imams weren’t a problem, Muslim organizations wouldn’t throw such a fit when the suggestions of monitoring the mosques are offered. Many of the Imams practicing in the United States are foreign born. They have come to America and much of the West with their strict interpretation of the Qur’an and preach this to Muslims in America. These verses are taken at face value, which is dangerous to peace-loving people. Saudi Arabia has not proven itself to be a friend of the United States or the American people. At best, the Saudis are a double-edged sword...[I] have always believed that there is really only one race: the human race. Regardless of the color of our skin, the color of the blood running through all of our veins is the same. Unfortunately, there are those who believe that a higher spirit has commanded them to kill, convert, or subjugate those who don’t follow the same beliefs that they do. This ideology is bigotry and racism in its purest form. Not all but many have come to live in the United States with little to no knowledge of our culture and with the expectation for Americans to adapt to their culture instead...

[If they want to live here, they should remember that they are owed nothing more than what every other immigrant who came before them received ...

I'd love to ask Matthew Brady what he thinks of all this.

Actually, Brady did a little staging of photos himself. If you go back to his collection on the Gettysburg battlefield, you will notice the same musket moves around and is next to many different bodies. There is also several photos taken in the "slaughter pen" area of the battlefield showing a very young, dead confederate soldier laying behind a rock wall snipers nest. Actually, they found the corpse in some rocks several hundred feet away and moved him to the snipers nest to spice up the photo.

The LLL should see this photo -- maybe they'll support the IDF retaliation after all.

87 Dar ul Harb  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 12:46:43pm

I'd seen the Sitting Corpse of Qana™ before, and someone supposedly had another photo taken from the side that indicated that it was due to rigor mortis.

But that again raises (from the dead!) the question of the condition of the bodies there and whether they died at the scene or had been brought there in Abdel Qader's Mystery Machine.

(Admittedly, that's a strange position for a corpse to be in, and looks quite suspicious, much like the "extra" in the "Gaza beach massacre" who gets up from where he's been lying down as the camera approaches.)

I'd love to ask Matthew Brady what he thinks of all this.

Actually, Brady did a little staging of photos himself.

Brady's staging of war photos was a function of the technological limits of photography (almost brand new) at the time. It took several minutes of exposure to produce a photo. Any movement during that time ruined the picture. In fact, photos exist of early San Francisco where people that had to have been present on the main drag at high noon literally walked out of the picture.

A couple of decades after the Civil War Kodak invented the Brownie and you start to see the first snapshots. The camera came pre-loaded with enough film for 100 shots, then you sent it back to Kodak. They reloaded it and sent you back your camera and your prints. (See, everything comes around again.)

There is a nice lesson plan at the Library of Congress or National Arcives about the above - includes some of the pics.

My mind cannot quite grasp the utter depravity in that sumbitch who is holding that poor dead toddler up as if it's some kind of trophy he won.

That's part of the problem. Most people can't comprehend what we're fighting against. They're as blind to the danger as the Germans who heard Hitler but just couldn't understand that he really meant what he was saying. They think we're nuts.
We have multi-culti crew who say that Arabic speaking involves exaggerations of everything, and therefore we shouldn't take their 'death to the Jooz' literally either. Even when they literally deal death to the Jooz, after yelling at them that it's what they're doing....

The building collapsed in the early morning, rigor mortis would set in in the evening or somewhat later.
So the body is dead longer than the building is down in rubble.

Lewis wrote, "This might well be deemed an appropriate date for the apocalyptic ending of Israel and if necessary the world. It is far from certain that Mr. Ahmadanejad plans any such cataclysmic events precisely for Aug. 22. But it would be wise to bear the possibility in mind."

Lewis, the Cleveland E. Dodge professor emeritus of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, specializes in Muslim history and interaction between Muslims and the West.

His comments echoed those made just a few days earlier by Robert Spencer, another scholar of Islamic history, theology and law and the director of Jihad Watch.

In an article for FrontPageMagazine.com, he wrote that Farid Ghadry, president of the Reform Party of Syria, noted the commemoration of Muhammad's ascent to heaven from the Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Spencer said the Night Journey, or Miraj, is what makes Jerusalem a holy site for Islam, and Islamic tradition believes Muhammad, along with the angel Gabriel, went to the Temple Mount, and then to heaven in a bathing of light over Jerusalem.

Spencer reported that Ghadry talked of Ahmadinejad's plans for an illumination of the night sky over Jerusalem to rival the light of that Islamic belief.

Ghadry said what the Iranian president is "promising the world by August 22 is the light in the sky over the Aqsa Mosque," Spencer said.

He said a nuclear attack on Jerusalem, or even a conventional attack, would be consistent with the references that have been made, including Ahmadinejad's talk that Israel "pushed the button of its own destruction" by returning fire for Hezbollah's rocket barrage.

Yes, it's possible the body was dead when put into the building, but rigor mortis can set in a bit faster in the heat. And it's really hot there. And the dying may have taken a while to die, accounting for the bodies' varying stages of putrefication. We'd be better off not doing forensics on a photo.

But we definitely have to keep asking questions. The media are the N-M-E (I just love that).

Not true. The Israelis claim they hit the building around 1 am. If this person was killed at 1 am he could be in rigor mortis which can begin in as little as 3 hours. If it's hot rigor mortis will set in much faster. Depends on the temperature.

Hiz fills the house with war dead, fires a few rockets from nearby & waits for the IAF strike.

The IAF strike happens, but horror (!) the house does not collapse! Then again, I find rutabagas more exciting than Ned Lamont.

Glenn Sockwald whines:"The readers on that blog are treated to stories selected by [Johnson] that are designed to depict Muslims as extremist or violent, and the comments that flow from that are the ones that you would expect," ...[he] accuses Johnson of stifling opposing points of view and jumping to conclusions.

Well Glenn, you know many of the stories are taken straight from MSM publications. So if they are indeed designed as you suggest, then who is the original designer? Hint...just ask reuters.

And, Glenn, just because you're still sore about the whole sock-puppet thing doesn't mean you can go around saying things like "stifling opposing points of view", and "jumping to conclusions" without being called on it.

Hizballah UAV Further Illustrates Iranian Support
By Daveed Gartenstein-Ross

On Monday night, the IAF's F-16 fighters shot down a Hizballah unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) ten kilometers off the coast of Acre. The drone reportedly had the capacity to carry 90 pounds of explosives.

Hizballah's drone was a Misrad-1, which is the same model as the Iranian Mohajer. It is also the same model UAV that Hizballah previously launched twice: in November 2004 and April 2005. In late 2004, Stratfor stated, "European intelligence sources say Hezbollah has acquired two to three UAVs from Iran . . . . In addition, Hezbollah has gathered an international team of engineers and scientists to equip the UAVs with a weapons system, enabling it to use the aircraft for a limited combat role as well as reconnaissance. Some reports indicate that later versions of the Iranian Mohajer can be equipped to fire chemical weapons." And Israeli sources provided similar analysis in 2004, stating that "Iran supplied Hezbollah with 8 such drones, and over the past two years some 30 Lebanese operatives have undergone training at Revolutionary Guards' bases near Isfahan to fly similar aircraft."

The drone launch comes atop ongoing revelations about the degree to which Iran has managed to build up Hizballah's deadly arsenal. Writing in the Weekly Standard in late July, counterterrorism consultant Dan Darling provided a detailed analysis of Hizballah's arsenal

194 galloping granny  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 2:37:45pm

Okay, I just grabbed close to 4 dozen more Qana photos, many of which we have not seen before. The guy under the sheet that folks have been making much of today is definitely in rigor. I have 2 pictures of him and a few next to him without the covering sheet. He also seems to be wearing fatigue pants.

Many of the bodies seem to be in rigor. I found some from inside the cellar that show bodies laying on the dirt, in rigor. Dirt has come in from one side but these bodies are not buried. The walls and ceiling are still standing.

I also got pics that show the back of the house that collapsed, the position of the one ambulance that seems to be present in relation to the house and a couple of pictures of a backhoe parked near the house. I am not sure whether these two pictures are the same backhoe in the same position. There is also what looks to be a cement mixer on top of two of the bodies in the cellar.

I do not have a place to host these, so anyone who has ideas speak up.

Also, I found the Pali Gaza battle from yesterday - all of it. It looks very staged.

And I found one picture of that miraculous ambulance.

Islam enjoys a large and influential ally among the non-Muslims: A new generation of “Useful Idiots,” the sort of people Lenin identified living in liberal democracies who furthered the work of communism. This new generation of Useful Idiots also lives in liberal democracies, but serves the cause of Islamofascism—another virulent form of totalitarian ideology.

Useful Idiots are naïve, foolish, ignorant of facts, unrealistically idealistic, dreamers, willfully in denial or deceptive. They hail from the ranks of the chronically unhappy, the anarchists, the aspiring revolutionaries, the neurotics who are at war with life, the disaffected alienated from government, corporations, and just about any and all institutions of society. The Useful Idiot can be a billionaire, a movie star, an academe of renown, a politician, or from any other segment of the population.

Overwhelmingly, photos from Lebanon show tears, dead bodies, demonstrations, trashed buildings, fires and screaming women.

The pictures from Israel overwhelmingly show military. Those that do not feature tanks, and soldiers setting out for battle show them relaxing on the beach, playing volleyball, listening to an Orthodox man playing the guitar....... one or two pictures of a crying woman, no pictures of anyone in bomb shelters, perhaps 2 of damage caused by rockets. Lots of the PM and lots of one of the kidnapped soldier's wives.

No, I would not say that there is any media biasis in the kinds/quality/subject matter of the pictures the media is choosing to take at all.

The French U.N. delegation has joined with Arab nations and is now calling for a complete and immediate Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon as a condition of any cease-fire, the sources said.

In addition, the French have reportedly agreed with Arab demands that the Lebanese force be accompanied only by UNIFIL, with no international force to be deployed.

That sounds exactly like the status quo before the whole thing started. Matter of fact it sounds just like the resolution John Bolton vetoed. And they are turning up the economic pressure - Israeli company lost a $50 million contract to rebuild Turkish AF jets, some arabs threatening to cut off the oil supply. Incredible. Charles has to link to that.

It reminds me of a "self portrait" photograph I had a friend take of me on the "big island" of Hawaii. I was lying "dead" on the black cinder covered ground, surrounded by dead trees. The volcano had recently erupted. I painted it, in oils, years later from the photograph. For some reason, that was one of the few paintings that my son wished to have hanging on the walls in his bedroom. He's now a pretty sane young man closing in on his doctorate in his field. I guess there wasn't any psychological significance to his choice.

I just saw Kos on MSNBC. He went into a rant about 'the establishment' politicians in Washington, and the language he used was, I must say, pretty sinister and unsettling. I am talking like at the last half of his rant about the condition of the United States government as a whole, you could paste it onto the end of a Soviet, Cuban, or North Korean proclamation (with a little bit of "we'll get you if you don't comply, ala Islamic nutter), and it would fit right in. I don't feel like I'm exaggerating here, I honestly thought he was threatening somebody with violence. I wish I had Tivo.

That's just disturbing. In between that and him saying Lieberman cheaped out on server bills, coupled with Olbermann correcting himself to remind his audience he's on Kos' side, it was a shining moment of a glimpse into the Angry Left. It was really, really weird. Is this what a Lemont Democratic party will look like? If so, I welcome the fracture of the Democratic party. We'll be better off as a country for that.

I agree with you. I have dug up a virtual ton - so much I'm going to have to burn a DVD tonight - of suspect pictures from just the last 30 days and I have not gone through them all or even saved half of the ones that I questioned.

It dawned on me last night that, given what we have been seeing of MSM pervasive outright falsehood & propaganda, how much of what has gone on in the ME over the last 30 or 40 or 50 years has been the same exact kind of crap?

I think a huge chunk - maybe even all of what we've seen - has been so spun by the media that even the primary players really have not the first clue what is actually going on.

I wonder what things would be like if the MSM had just played it straight. Somehow I don't think we would be on the verge of all out nuclear war right now.

#249 Kos was on MSNBC and is going on AAR at some point tonight to talk to his buddy Sam Seder.

1. MSNBC is a network that can barely keep up with the rest of the MSM and is probably only watched by the likes of the Kossacks.

2. Sam Seder and AAR would be belly up by now if they didn't continue to get huge influxes of money from wealthy folks like Soros etc.

So let him rant all he wants. The vast majority of the sane folks in this country aren't watching or listening. And the folks that are watching and listening to his drivel don't have an open mind anyway. He isn't changing anyone's mind, only showing us the utter depravity of his.

Case in point: Zombie, you need to edit your page to indicate that several people (myself included) have shown, both here and in emails to powerline, that the upside-down car did not move around, but was simply shot using radically different lenses. Check out Charles' original thread on it: [Link: littlegreenfo......]
...and scroll down.

This says nothing about the staging question on those shots, mind...

Thanks for pointing that out, Seerak. I have now fixed the page to include your info:

Updated zombie Reuters fraud page:

But things start to get completely bizarre when in a later photo, the exact same damaged car seems to be quite a distance away, once again on its roof (and notice the other photographer taking a close-up of the car). However, Seerak, an astute photo expert on Little Green Footballs, pointed out in this detailed comment that the photographer may been been alternating between powerful telephoto and wide-angle lenses, which produce only the appearance of the car being moved. If so, then this example belongs more in the "false and misleading captions" section than in this section. The foreshortening is so extreme that it's hard to believe it could be produced simply by different lenses, but it may be possible.

Ultimately, the sword of Ali did what had to be done, and he humiliated the people of Khaybar and the vain and arrogant Jews. Although, the question may remain valid: how does someone reconcile the pictures of Hezbollah 'soldiers' in an anti-tank vehicle wearing clothes that look like the clothes of these poor dead people? The thing is that you can't with an enemy that purposefully implants itself within the population (sometimes they're willing to accept them, too). ...coupled with Olbermann correcting himself to remind his audience he's on Kos' side, it was a shining moment of a glimpse into the Angry Left. It was really, really weird.

The dichotomy becomes more pronounced by the day. We need to grasp the stark, cold reality that the leftist cabal have an innate and disturbing psychological bent towards concepts and philosophies that we mightily struggle to wrap our arms around. There is a grand divide in this world that separates the conceptualization of "right versus wrong". When we confront what we perceive to be misguided and irrational people, it can slap us upside the head in an alarming fashion. Time to lace up the boots, and carry the ideological battle to the front lines.

Just saw a "debate" on CNN about the photos on Paula Zahn. A pre-taped bit of Charles was on (he did great) but the whole segment cut out any mention of polital motivation, until they cut to Anderson Cooper who relayed a story of Hez b'allah staging a scene for the reporters with abulances zipping up and down the street. But he said it was only because they were not as sophisticated as the Israelis.

The idea was that the bloggers were just mad that the photos were faked and get off on exposing that sort of thing, like a cute fetish. They made it seem like LGF would be just as interested if they doctored any photo.

289 Jeff S.  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 3:57:09pm

Ben Stein nails it in The American Spectator.

"For anyone with even a sliver of sensitivity to see this happening to a people who have already suffered more than any other people in history, is torture. To see George W. Bush stand up for Israel while the left whines about totally meaningless multilateralism -- which means asking France to defend Israel, sort of like asking Martin Bormann to defend Israel -- is to see clear decency versus a waffling, age-old anti-Semitic sickness.

The line of the fight between civilization and barbarism runs right along the Israel-Lebanon non-border. If it's not won there, it won't be long until the front line is right here, and then it will be too late. When George Bush stands up for Israel, he stands up for the whole future of mankind. Yes, he has flaws and has made serious mistakes, but right now, he is a hero for the ages."

That's their role in these things. What should we expect from Eason Jordan's network? They cover it up for days or weeks. The scandal grows as the blogosphere fact-checks. Some outlets run with the research done by the Army of Davids. Outlets like CNN, acting as Dan Rather did for a week, end up looking terrible in the end. This is just beginning to break.

I've seen phony journalism from Arab stringers for years. If people have the time this will make Rathergate look small, which is saying something given that was a fraudulent journalistic hit on a sitting president.

No - an html wouldn't fix it, just mess it up for sure and all. That is the web browser mark up language. What you are thinking of is http - but you have that too.

In each of your links there is a missing piece in the middle. Hover your mouse over one, look at the bottom left edge of your browser and you will see what it says.

To fix them just go to the pages, highlight the URL in your menu bar, right click, copy, then click in the text box and paste. don't bother with the link button on the text box.

Caption: The mayor of Tyre said that in the worst hit areas, bodies were still buried under the rubble, and he appealed to the Israelis to allow government authorities time to pull them out. (Photo Tyler Hicks The New York Times)

DigitalJournalist:

TYRE, LEBANON. Wednesday, July 26, 2006: After an Israeli airstrike destroyed two buildings in downtown Tyre, Lebanon, one man helped another who had fallen and was hurt. As people searched through the burning remains, aircraft again could be heard overhead, panicking the people that a second strike was coming.

OT: McKinneys getting shellacked 74% to 26%...

Another POS getting ready to enter garbage pail of history...

She has been beat before and managed to come back. 2years ago she was beaten by Denise Majette, who then decided to run for the Senate and got shellacked by Isakson which allowed Jihad Cyndi to reclaim what was "rightfully hers" or in correct liberal terminology, "what was owed her".
Besides it ain't over until all of the law suits, recounts and accusations of vote tampering are settled. I am afraid those of us in GA are in for plenty of Cindy headlines in the coming weeks.
Compare her actions to how Mr Lieberman will act if he is beaten.

Alan Colmes reporting from Lamont HQ's with Carl Cameron at Liebermans'. Remember Colmes is considered a "moderate".
2 things the Republicans need to do between now and the general election in Nov.
1) Grow a damn spine
2) Constantly highlight the anti war and looney fringe the Dems are now embracing.

As #52 galloping granny pointed out;

If you are participating in the spot the fauxtography effort, be aware that the various wire services are taking pictures down as fast as we find them.

If as many bloggers and posters as possible download these images to their hardrives and take a they can finger print these files as evidence using an MD5 signature hash.

What an MD5 hash does is an app peforms a crytographic analysis of a file to create a unique hash signature key that positively identifies a file. Say for example, if someone changes just one tiny pixel in a Jpeg picture then the MD5 hash will be completely different for that file as a result. This gurantees that the file is unique and unaltered. If 10 bloggers download the same file from the same source and then store it, as long as that file is not tampered with, they will all result in the same MD5 signature for each person.

This hash signature can be used in a court of law.

Here is a free tool to use to create MD5 hash for your files. It's called WinMD5. Download it and use it to catalog your photos with signature hashes. For each picutre also create a text file that describes where the file came from and what it is. Name the file the same as the photo file name such as fakephoto34.jpg.txt

I hope this helps. Spread the word.

I take it back, #279 12th Imam(hidden).

What matters is the NY Times caption.

But hey. It is self correcting. Sometimes recursively!

Let me solve the problem here guys. This photo and the other three in the series - the ones that Gateway Pundit used - are screen shots from the New York Times Flash Slide show.

The caption on the dead guy pic in the Flash reads - "The mayor of Tyre said that in the worst hit areas, bodies were still buried under the rubble, and he appealed to the Israelis to allow government authorities time to pull them out."

The other three pics featuring this guy read -

Tuesday night's strike, which wounded 12 people, had been the third in that part of Tyre.

After the explosion, men climbed onto the burning wreckage to search for survivors.

No matter the target, the result of an attack here is an outpouring of support for Hezbollah. Amid the rubble, men chanted their allegiance, and through the haze, others chanted in reply.

This would certainly give the impression to me that the guy is either dead or seriously wounded as a direct result of the strike.

Did they only change the headline after they new they'd be busted? The fact that they even attempted to float the Gatewaypundit headline is a bad sign. I 'd guess they only changed the headline because they knew they'd get busted. When was it changed?

I don't know. The pic might actually have had two different captions. I have a number of them that do, depending on where you found it. In the NYT Flash Slide Show the caption that Gateway Pundit is the one used. Photo was first in the slide show I presume.

The multiple captions depending on the source is a real problem. But then so is the same pic being recycled a week or so apart, the same one woman losing multiple houses and the gal in her "destroyed living room" that looks no worse than mine.

I have no idea of the chronology, I'm just saying there is a second version of the picture, not from the slideshow.

Clearly, the slideshow caption is meant to give the impression that you are looking at a dead body, without actually saying so.

I think

TYRE, LEBANON. Wednesday, July 26, 2006: After an Israeli airstrike destroyed two buildings in downtown Tyre, Lebanon, one man helped another who had fallen and was hurt. As people searched through the burning remains, aircraft again could be heard overhead, panicking the people that a second strike was coming.

(Tyler Hicks/The New York Times)

One of the talking dicks interviewed by Alan "My Head Hurts" Colmes proclaimed that Lieberman turned against support for GWB's fight against the WOT. True, or not?

370 driftwood  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 4:55:50pm

Kevin Sites:

I ask Abbas Kassab why the Israelis would strike Qana so severely — what tactical or strategic value it might have. But he is adamant that there is none — that Hezbollah, or the resistance, as the Lebanese call it, does not operate in the village.

"There's no resistance here. Israel is lying. There are no resistance fighters here. Children are playing; there are no resistance at all," he says. "There was a mother with a seven-month-old child that was killed. Was she a resistance fighter?"

*****

I ask Abbas Kassab who he blames for the bombing and death in Qana, and the answer I receive is similar to what I have heard elsewhere on the streets of Lebanon:

"America," he says. "Only America."

"Why?"

"America gave the green light for Israel to do this. Israel can't shoot one bullet without America's permission. America is responsible. There are not resistance fighters here. Only kids playing. Even if there were, why would they kill civilians? Let them fight in Bint Jbail where the resistance is. Let Israel go to Bint Jbail and see what they can do."

Sites' pic of Abbas Kassab looks like White Tee Shirt.

373 really grumpy big dog johnson  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 5:05:28pm

No offense, but rigor mortis can vary from 10 or so minutes to several hours, but usually it's closer to several hours.

One would think that if this is an urgent medical response, then you wouldn't see much rigor mortis in sudden victims of a bombing.

But I also note how rarely we ever see any blood in these "fauxtos of death", and how on the rare occasions when you see truly gruesome and horrific pictures, you can rarely pin them down as accurate, as the media is so controlled in Hizballah zones that they cannot with certainty verify that what they are reporting (and fauxtographing) is not staged.

Sad but true. It's time to buckle the chin strap, and just go ahead and assume that any photograph (authentic image) coming from the terrorist zone is just about as likely as a donkey barbecue.

Don't do as the Israelis have done, assume immediately that they've screwed up. HOW THE HELL CAN WE KNOW UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES?

Hizballah needs to secure legitimacy by opening their zones to fair reporting. They will not do that, of course, so what possible conclusion can you make?

374 paul in Va  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 5:15:56pm

It looks like the gap is stabilizing at 3.5%with over 81% counted. Don't know how much more inner city there is.

375 kynna  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 5:22:23pm

Taranto mentions the same thing I immediately thought about the rigor mortis picture. I thought the dead were women and children? That's a line of men. They may be dead, and they may have been killed by an Israeli bomb, but they are definitely men, and most likely military age. Which means...

Now on to the Connecticut self-immolation -- if Lamont wins this primary, it looks like it will be by a nose, which will certainly embolden Lieberman to make good his threat to run as an Independent Democrat. He may take a chunk of dem votes, but I suspect he'll also get a chunk of Republican votes and win handily in November.

Lamont may just be the gift that keeps on giving as all those dems who didn't support Lieberman will look like a bunch of chumps. That I would love.

I'm horrified, horrified- I tell you, that these poor citizens have it so bad that they have to keep their dead relatives in their households for so long, rigor mortis sets in.

Obviously, this country needs a visit from "Morticians without Borders".

If these humble abodes were never bombed, we'd never realize this sad fact.

378 clarice  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 7:21:40pm

Eureferendum has a new post up in which thru a frame by frame analysis they make a compelling case that (a) The Red Cross workers were in on the Qana charade and (b) the photogs could not have missed that this was a foul show being put on for their benefit.

And Malkin has an update on the burning garbage dump that US News ran as a fire burning from an Israeli bombing.

Here's how Time ran the garbage fire:"Update: Reader Robert P. writes:

When I saw the US News photo I knew I'd seen it somewhere else as well. This exact same scene is shown on page 45 of the July 31st issue of Time Magazine. The caption reads: "The wreckage of a downed Israeli jet that was targeting Hizballa trucks billows smoke behind a Hizballah gunman in Kfar Chima, near Beirut. Jet fuel set the surrounding area ablaze." The photo credit is to Bruno Stevens - Cosmos. Upon closer inspection the blaze indeed appears to be a tire fire. "

379 Fight The Hypocrisy  Tue, Aug 8, 2006 7:46:15pm

On the "war plane missiles" (BTW Have you noticed that repeating phrase?):

After carefeul inspection of these photos I have come to the conclusion that Israel is using cannonballs.

Especially convincing was the absence of any burn/fire damage on the white car. And just look at the pic with the guy poking his head out of the hole in the ambulance! What other kind of ordinance could be responsible for that besides a cannonball.

Mabye the IDF has been watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and were overcome with inspiration. Who knows? Mabye they're actually running an entire Disney themed war and it was they who dropped all those Mickeys and Minnies.

What do you think, could it be possible?
