A "Jihad Training Camp" in Britain

Sat, Sep 2, 2006 at 6:19:54 pm PDT

An ominous development in the latest British jihad plot: Police swoop on Britain’s first ‘jihad training camp’.

Anti-terror police raided what is believed to be Britain’s first home-grown jihad training camp in the grounds of a former English ballet school.

They rounded up a network of alleged terrorist recruiters after spying on them at the secluded country mansion. It is understood the group, which included several recent converts to Islam, were being schooled in fundamentalist ideals associated with Al Qaeda.

Last night, 14 men were being questioned, including at least one man described as a ‘high-profile fundamentalist Muslim cleric’.

Months of painstaking surveillance by MI5 culminated in police swooping on a group of 12 men as they sat down to a £4.99 ‘all-you-can-eat’ halal buffet in The Bridge To China Town restaurant in Borough, South London, late on Friday night, after they returned from a trip to the Islamic school.

It was followed by a series of raids at addresses across the capital and a massive police and forensic operation targeting the building and grounds of the Islamic school in East Sussex where they had been staying.

UPDATE at 9/2/06 6:57:25 pm:

Dan Riehl has more on Jameah Islameah, the Islamic school linked to Abu Hamza.

I'm betting the UK law enforcement agencies have started to infiltrate these groups. Excellent news.

Hopefully the US authorities will learn from this and start acting on the threat here, beginning with CAIR headquarters.

The covert operation involved specialist watch teams tracking the men's movements, telephone calls, e-mails and internet use.

Central to the investigation was the group's use of the Jameah Islameah School, where MI5 is believed to have planted listening devices and mini-cameras to monitor the group.

I wonder what portion of the Brits object to these tactics?

11 Paul  Sat, Sep 2, 2006 4:28:45pm

That's what I'm taking away from this.

What are our anti-terror police doing?

Do we even have any anti-terror police?

Maybe they should check out all the ballet schools in the US. Ah never mind, they're probably filled with democrats. And we all know how the democrats like to dance around the terror threats.

At that point, you have to see if they are consuming the hog. If they are stuffing themselves with bacon and sausage, you know a suicide pact has been struck...

That is your time to move.

If they stick with "halal" choosings, then you are all right, they won't be killing themselves on that day.

25 Darwin Akbar  Sat, Sep 2, 2006 4:41:36pm

...but let's not jump to conclusions...I am sure a very broad strata of British society enjoys those "all-you-can-eat halal buffets...", not just jihadis-in-training.

What is the marketing slogan of this place?

"The closest to heaven you'll get without the 72 virgins!" ?

What kind of fortune cookies does one get?

"You have a beard and are named Mohammed."

"The Jews will soon cower at your feet."

"Your innards will soon be spread about a room full of dead infidels."

It reminds me of that time when my Youth Pastor was hauled out of the Dennys (all you can eat buffet $5.99)and arrested after our Small arms and mine laying exercise at the church camp.

Why is it that their "holy" men are actively involved in recruiting and brain washing these "people" into jihad and the sheeple are continually told that this religion has been "hijacked" and is really a religion of peace? Seems to me that the people who have hijacked this great religion are the religious leaders themselves. Could I be wrong?

There are reportedly at least 12 Hezbollah cells in the US, and as many or more radical Islamic groups. I don't think they're here to do good deeds for the American people.

I really don't understand why they are allowed to come here and set up camps. And no one seems to care.

It's really scary!

Trust me, Monique, we don't just let them "set up camps" like they pull permits and the like.

They do it surreptitiously. In other words, they don't pull permits.

Rest assured that when we find something like that, we kill it.

From THIS swoop, I see a bigger, brighter picture:

Details learned from computers and personal notes seized in these raids, lead to and will lead to MORE RAIDS, and RISING PUBLIC AWARENESS of the seriousness of the DISEASE STATE in England!

The Islamo-Terrorists may get in a few more Splodey-Attacks, but this swoop is already a good sign of a massive re-alignment of resources to deal with these scabrous thugs!

And about time, too, Brit Buddies! Good for you!

I agree. We have the right dynamic with more and more arrests by UK Police. Next step is for Islamics in UK to complain, public gets annoyed with those complaints.

That reminds me of the time a friend and I were walking in the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs in the spring of 2002. There was a group of Arabs (coulda' been Persians) there, taking photographs of the range leading down to Mt. Cheyenne, NORAD's mountain.

They didn't walk around a lot until my friend and I started trying to photograph them. To a man, they ducked their heads and covered their faces. Other things they did were extremely furtive.

I contacted the FBI that afternoon.

Maybe they were students in Golden, just tired of the scrutiny from the public. But, I didn't care then or now.

Among those being monitored is Abu Abdullah, a British-born firebrand who is an associate of jailed hook-handed cleric Abu Hamza, who has been alleged to have links to the Jameah Islameah School.

Last week, Abdullah was quoted praising the July 7 London Tube and bus bombers and defending suicide attacks against Britons.

Hi Mandy.

This is an excerpt from the Washington Times editorial on May 20, 2005

"Aside from al Qaeda, no terrorist group has killed more Americans than Hezbollah, which is bankrolled by Iran to the tune of at least $100 million a year. Hezbollah's main theaters of operation are Lebanon, its home country (where it killed hundreds of Americans during the 1980s), and the West Bank and Gaza, where it helps Palestinian rejectionists target Israel. But the group is active in the United States as well. Hezbollah is believed to have cells in at least 10 U.S. cities.
Although the organization has yet to launch an attack on U.S. soil, its U.S. activities are far from benign. Its work in this country has two major purposes: One is to raise money and smuggle arms to Hezbollah fighters, often by criminal activities ranging from credit-card fraud to cigarette smuggling; and the other is to conduct surveillance behind enemy lines, with a possible eye toward launching attacks on U.S. targets in the event of an armed conflict between the United States and Tehran. We ignore the group's operations in this country at our peril."

Giving these animals the benefits of our freedoms is a problem. The brits have had a great deal of difficulty actually getting convictions to go along with all of the arrests. If they get a conviction, European penal codes and conditions instill no fear in these islamists.

Just make them disappear, I don't need to the good news.

Both we and the Euros are still trying to solve this with cops and courts--ie, it isn't a war, but a law enforcement problem. Hence, all the high arrest numbers.

Once you hear of anti-terror police killing and wounding jihadis in Brooklyn, Bath, and the Bois, then we'll know our governments have accepted the real nature of this conflict: a religious world war.

What the government inspectors found...

[Link: www.ofsted.gov.uk...]

Purpose and scope of the inspection
This inspection was carried out by the Office for Standards in Education under
Section 162A of the Education Act 2002 in order to advise the Secretary of State for
Education and Skills about the school’s suitability for continued registration as an
independent school.

Summary of main findings

Jameah Islameah School does not provide a satisfactory education for its pupils. It
has not made sufficient progress towards fulfilling its aims since it was established.
It does not provide an adequate preparation and strong foundation for the next stage
of the pupils’ education. The school has improved in some respects but not
sufficiently to have a positive impact on pupils’ achievement. It still has a significant
number of major weaknesses. The curriculum is not broad and balanced. Although
there has been some improvement in teaching, the quality of teaching remains
unsatisfactory and prevents pupils making the progress of which they are capable.
Provision for pupils’ spiritual and moral development is good but there are insufficient
opportunities to promote their social and cultural development.
The provision for the welfare, health and safety of pupils is unsatisfactory as the
school does not provide a safe environment in which learning can take place. Pupils
are well behaved and self-disciplined but are given too few opportunities to make
academic progress, to develop a healthy lifestyle and to flourish as young people.
Teachers are committed to improvement but do not receive sufficient training to
enable them to develop their teaching skills. The newly appointed headteacher has
had too little time to bring about the necessary improvements that will have an
impact on teaching and learning.

You've got to take a side here: are Airbus shitty planes or not?
Is the A380 a terrorist magnet or the perfect deportation tool?

As for the halal buffet in a chinese restaurant, it must be market forces: you're not going to sell a lot of roast pork belly in a mainly muslim area.
