An amazingly brazen statement from one of Hizballah’s main suppliers of illegal weaponry: Military force won’t stop illegal weapons entering Lebanon: Assad.
MADRID (AFP) - International efforts, including peacekeeping forces will be unable to stop illegal weapons from reaching the Lebanese militia group Hezbollah, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has argued.
“If a real will exists to introduce illegal weapons (into Lebanon), neither UN resolutions nor military deployment will be able to stop” their entry, the Syrian leader told Spain’s daily El Pais newspaper Sunday.
He described efforts by both Syrian troops and United Nations peacekeepers to stop the movement of contraband arms destined for Hezbollah as “a waste of time.”
