A Snowstorm of Whitewash
Recently we’ve been witnessing a blizzard of news stories about Islamic terror-related issues that omit critical information about the backgrounds and connections of the people involved. Is this simple cluelessness on the part of our exalted journalistic class, or are they deliberately cutting out this important context at some step of the editorial process? In most of these cases, the information isn’t difficult to find on the internet or elsewhere—so is it laziness or obfuscation?
Debbie Schlussel has a good example, in a Wall Street Journal report about Islamic charity LIFE for Relief and Development that laments the persecution they’re suffering, but just, uh, forgets to mention that they were raided by the FBI only weeks ago, or their many links to terrorist activities.
