Hamas Will Let Us Give Them a State
Head Hamas thug Ismail Haniyeh says he’ll accept that Palestinian state everyone seems to want to give them, on one condition. We need to understand that they’re still going to wipe out the Jews. He figures it will take about 10 years. Haniyeh: We’ll accept a state for a 10-year truce.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh said Saturday that his Hamas group would be willing to accept a temporary Palestinian state in the West Bank, Gaza and east Jerusalem in exchange for a 10-year truce with Israel.
His comments, reiterating Hamas policy, came as Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was to meet exiled Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Syria to discuss ways to form a coalition government and end international sanctions on the Palestinians.
Haniyeh’s proposal has previously been rejected by Israel and the international community, which demand that Hamas recognize Israel’s right to exist and renounce violence.
“We are with liberating any inch of Palestine,” he said in a televised address. “But we will not close the door for the next generation, because the weak don’t always stay weak, and the strong won’t stay strong.”
In that last quote, Haniyeh is referring to the Islamic concept of a temporary truce to rest and regain strength (a hudna), as exemplified by Mohammed’s treaty of Al-Hudaybiyya, an agreement made with the Meccan tribe of Quraish—which Mohammed broke as soon as his armies were strong enough to attack and conquer the Quraish.
