Walid Shoebat at UC Davis

Thanks to all LGF readers who sent me their accounts of Walid Shoebat’s speech at UC Davis, and the Muslim Student Association’s protest. I suspect the MSA deliberately toned down the protest last night, after the publicity the Muslim Students Union at UC Irvine received for their outrageous demonstration at Daniel Pipes’ speech (where they called for the destruction of Israel).

Here’s one account, from lizardoid reporter David:

I was one of your unofficial lizards at the UCDavis Shoebat talk tonight. There was very tight security, but no disruptions. For the most part, the crowd was quite supportive. A minor miracle considering the venue!

Several dozen MSA members showed up dressed in white tops, with varying degrees of red tape on their left arms. Many had red tape over their mouths. They sat close to the stage, right in the center. Three times during the presentation they silently stood up in unison for about 30 seconds, then sat down in unison: 1) at the very beginning, 2) when Shoebat stated his conviction that Muhammad is not a prophet, and 3) when he criticized CAIR. Hmmm. At the end of the presentation they again stood up in unison, raised their arms, and filed out into the Davis night.

I’d be lying if I said that their behavior didn’t creep me out. You know, in a Jonestown kind of way.

They reassembled outside with their signs touting that “Islam is Peace” and other golden oldies, while passing out advertisements for a talk next month by Norman Finkelstein. Now THAT should give a lizard something to report!
