Dhimmitude at Cambridge

Mon, Feb 12, 2007 at 10:28:48 am PST

A student at Cambridge University is in big trouble for printing one of the dreaded cartoons of blasphemy. He’s gone into hiding for fear of the Religion of Peace™.

And the university, sadly but unsurprisingly, is not supporting him. Instead, they’re considering disciplinary action, and have gotten the police involved: Fears magazine could fuel racial tension. (Hat tip: Bitter Paul.)

Once again we see a complete inability to distinguish between religion and race. There’s been a deliberate campaign by Islamists to blur this line, in order to criminalize criticism of Islam, and it’s obviously having some success.

A CAMBRIDGE University student is at the centre of a race-hate probe after printing anti-Islamic material in a magazine.

The 19-year-old second year student at Clare College was in hiding today (Friday, 09 February) after printing the racist cartoon and other vile material.

The article is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

Today (Friday, 09 February), senior college officials were locked in urgent talks about how the material came to be published and what action to take against the student at the centre of the scandal.

A university spokesman said police had been made aware of the incident. A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “This is a matter for the university authorities to deal with.” He added that an investigation was not yet in progress.

The student magazine, Clareification, printed a cropped copy of the cartoon of the prophet Mohammed next to a photo of the president of the Union of Clare Students. The cartoon was captioned with the president’s name and vice versa.

There was also comment suggesting one was a “violent paedophile” and the other was “a prophet of God, great leader and an example to us all.”

The cartoon was the same one which caused riots across the world when it was printed in a Danish newspaper.

For his own safety and that of others, the student, who is British, has been taken out of his current accommodation and put in a secure place.

The paper had been renamed Crucification for a special edition on religious satire. The front page included headlines stating: “Ayatollah rethinks stance on misunderstood Rushdie”.

On page six, pictures were shown of Muslims holding placards reading: “Behead those who insult Islam” and “Freedom go to Hell.”

Enraged students have bombarded the Union of Clare Students with complaints and vice-president of the university’s Islamic society described it as “hugely offensive” and “crude unabashed prejudice.”

UPDATE at 2/12/07 10:31:45 am:

More at the Pub Philosopher: Students to be disciplined for publishing Mohammed Cartoon.

To make a real impact, the MSM would have to allow it. I dont see that happening.

What exactly would be the charge?

"offense" , "Racial Attack"?.....

If the student plays this correctly it might not be as bad as it sounds. If I were him I'd push the administration and the student to explain fully where the harm of RE-printing a cartoon was.

Right after the Muslims says that it is "Un-Islamic" to publish pictures of Mohommad...I'd point out that I'M NOT A MUSLIM AND SHARIA DOESN'T APPLY TO ME! (As a Jew it is offensive to see people defiling Shabbos by driving on Friday night through Saturday evening....but am I going to make it illegal in the United States to do so because it offends my religion? HECK NO! )

Noone is forcing the Muslim to not be able to practice his/her religion nor hurting them for doing so. This student wanted to publish a cartoon of "some guy" (as far as the student is concerned he's not a prophet) If that offends Muslims or is against Islam....then Muslims shouldn't do it....but they can't force me to accept the tenents of THEIR relgion. Mine says its ok to publish pics of some 1/2 mentaly dificient guy named Mohammed.

Exactly what is offensive: the fact that Muslims stood in a public place holding up those signs so that as many people as possible could see them, or that a good little proper proto-Marixst didn't do his duty by covering up the PR blunders of his Muslim brothers-in-arms?

Is reprinting a news photo now a crime?

I find it curious. Way back in the 1930s, the Nazis were busy trying to convince the world that Jews were a racial group that needed to be annihilated.

Now, we've got Muslims going around trying to call followers of their religion a racial group in order to gain protections under a law that shouldn't apply to them because they're not a racial group.

Harvard is now getting a left-wing radical feminist as leader, after Larry Summers was fired for asking questions about innate differences between men and women. So much for critical thinking and academic freedom. In fact, radical feminists work in tandem with Muslims to shut down freedom of speech on university campuses. And they also contribute greatly to demonizing Western civilization by focusing exclusively on "oppression," instead of asking themselves why they as women have greater freedom here than anywhere else.

The Looney Tunes Riots have, more than anything else, convinced me that it is Islam, and not just the "radical fringe", that is the problem. All over the world Muslims were unified in the need to use violence in response to these cartoons. Always the excuse was that we needed to understand how offended they were.

I was pretty damn offended by 9-11. Muslims need to understand how offended I am, and STFU.

45 MoonbatBane  2/12/07 8:55:07 am reply quote 0
The article is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

And here's the core of the problem. There have been much more inflamatory anti-Christian, anti-male, anti-conservative, and frankly anti-female, anti-black, etc., images printed for years and years and years in this country, with at most letters to the editor. What's different here? Of course, us lizards can see it -- it's the people "offended" and their propensity toward violence.

A more accurate description would have been the following:

The people offended by the article are known to be so inherently violent that is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

Of course, that kind of thinking runs so counter to the average moonbat's, reporter's and school administrator's (redundant) limited reasoning abilities that there is no way in #### it would even happen.

Well, according to leftist doctrine, that strategy validates any and all intellectual contributions to society in the name of said university. In their world, the filtering process ensures pristine political correctness. Knowledge through truth is but an afterthought.

Noon Update on DC Disaster

Hard to tell for sure with 12 hour intervals, but I think 12Z UKMET supports general idea that would drop boatloads of ice on DCA, BWI and PHL after starting as snow, maybe with temps briefly rising above freezing, which cuts back dramatic effect, or maybe not, with Cat 2 Hurricane type damage from trees and powerlines down over a 200 km stretch. NYC would go all liquid rain for a while, BOS may briefly change rain, but would change back to snow in time to get at least enough (six inches, 15 cm) for a day off school following day, with inland areas of Westchester County, Connecticut inland from I-95 and areas outside I-495 corridor near Worcester also seeing either enough ice to be fun, or sleet to cut down on snow accumulations, but make the snow extra crunchy.

Canadian is also all over an ice storm for Washington, DC. Both models seem to leave Bay Shore, NY out of the fun, with an extended period of rain with above freezing surface temps, and I do feel sorry for all the kids going to St. John the Baptist High School who may miss out on a snow day, but my elderly aunts might prefer just a rain storm. Looks like NYC itself may mix with sleet and rain, but be mostly snow. If our friends at Environment Canada are correct. Well, even where an extended period of rain falls on Long Island, winds could gust to hurricane force in scattered embedded thunderstorms, so maybe a few school districts will cancel classes. Not the Diocese of Rockville Center, if I had to guess.

GFS isn't that much different than others, but a little weird in the way it stretches out the secondary low, which may be wrong, and a little more liquid, a little less freezing rain and snow for cities, such that this isn't a storm people talk about in 10 years as the Blizzard of '07.

NAM has a wonderful snowstorm with some ice at the Southern edge, but only for people 50 miles or so in from the coast. Entire I-95 corridor quickly goes to rain. But I liked the old ETA model that was the NAM better than the WRF.

Some good news from my subscription to Joe Bastardi

Joe Bastardi believes the US models (NAM and GFS) don't properly resolve the low level, very shallow, but very dense Arctic air behind the surface front, so that instead of a change to liquid rain, there is an extended period in DCA, BWI and PHL, maybe all the way to the coast at EWR and LGA, and up towards BOS, extending inland a ways, where profiles warm enough for liquid rain, except right near the surface, or the snow-ice-snow damage with crippling amounts of snow.

Current axis of severe storms is East of Houston, but it'd only take a little sun to recharge the atmosphere for a second, more devastating, round.

Some breaks in the clouds trying to form ahead of the new area of storms forming in the I-95 corridor.

A very good response to such intimidation is not just to mock Islam, but to post critical assessments of Islamic history on the Internet. Post stuff like that on the Internet, that's the way to respond.

This is exactly the moment when information about Muhammad, his life, deeds and words should be disseminated as much as possible, randomly, in public places, surreptitiously. Once the truth is out about their 'perfect man', Islam is exposed to the general public as a warrior's cult with some very morally degenerate qualities. Ridicule, contempt and disgust can be very potent weapons once truth has exposed the void at the core of the opposition.

I just know from my discussion with liberals about the "cartoon controversy" that once I actually showed them the pictures, they were very confused on why this was offensive. Because they hadn't seen the cartoons, they assumed that they were racist, rude, depicted hatred, etc. Once they saw that they were JUST pictures of Mohammad, they relaxed over the issue.

I guess this would be a good time to point out:

Chinese new year cards celebrating the year of the pig? :-)

Didn't you hear? The Chinese have suspended the year of the Pig. Guess why....

I remember that. If the Chinese are cowed by Islam, we are in trouble.

60 Elric ... LOL ... I think every year should be the "Year of the Pig" as long as islamonazi "porcine-o-phobes" walk the planet.

I think Arnold Ziffel (Green Acres fans will remember him) should become Charles' role model for future flying pig depictions.

The Failure of Western Universities

Lee Kaplan joined a conference of MESA, the Middle East Studies Association, in San Francisco: "Free copies of a glossy newsmagazine called the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs were being distributed to the academics in attendance. What most people don't know is that the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs magazine and Web site – indeed, the entire organization behind it – are funded by Saudi Arabia, a despotic regime that has been quietly buying its way onto every campus in America, particularly through Middle East Studies centers in the U.S."

"I met Nabil Al-Tikriti, a professor from the University of Chicago." "I'd invite those academic Middle East scholars who actually support America's war effort overseas and security needs here at home. People like Daniel Pipes or Martin Kramer." I continued, "Why aren't they here at the MESA Conference?" "They'd be shouted down," replied Al-Tikriti.

Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald shares his worries about MESA: "As an organization, MESA has over the past two decades slowly but surely been taken over by apologists for Islam." "The apologetics consists in hardly ever discussing Jihad, dhimmitude, or indeed even introducing the students to Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira." "Books on the level of [Karen] Armstrong and Esposito are assigned, and feelgood nonsense like Maria Rosa Menocal's The Ornament of the World."

The Legacy of Jihad, one of the most important works on Jihad to appear in recent years, was written by Andrew Bostom, a medical doctor who was dissatisfied with much of the material available on the subject following the terror attacks in 2001. Bat Ye'or, perhaps the leading expert on the Islamic institution of dhimmitude, is self-taught. And Ibn Warraq has written several excellent books on the origins of the Koran and the early days of Islamic history while remaining outside of the established University system. This is all a great credit to them personally, but it is not a credit to the status of Western Universities.

It is difficult to understand why American or Western authorities still allow the Saudis to fund what is being taught about Islam to future Western leaders, years after several Saudi nationals staged the worst terror attack in Western history. The United States didn't allow Nazi Germany to buy influence at US Universities. Although the Soviet Communists had their apologists in the West as well as paid agents, the US never allowed the Soviet Union to openly sponsor its leading colleges. So why are they allowing Saudi Arabia and other Islamic nations to do so? The Saudis are enemies, and should be banned from exerting direct influence over our Universities and major media. It is a matter of national security.

Still, although bribes and Saudi oil money represent a serious obstacle to critical Western studies of Islam, they do by no means make up all of the problems. Quite a few academics are so immersed with anti-Western ideology that they will be happy to bash the West and applaud Islam for free.

Our colleges aren't even trying to seek truth; they have decided that there is no such thing as "truth" in the first place, just different opinions and cultures, all equally valid. Except Western culture, which is inherently evil and should be broken down and "deconstructed." Western Universities have moved from the Age of Reason to the Age of Deconstruction.

While Chinese, Indian, Korean and other Asian universities are graduating millions of motivated scientists every year, Western universities have been reduced to little hippie factories, teaching about the wickedness of the West and the blessings of barbarism. Far worse than failing to compete with Asians is failing to identify the threat from Islamic nations who want to subdue us and wipe out our entire civilization. That is a failure we quite simply cannot live with.

Just to clear things up here, this particular incident did not take place at an American University, as some readers have inferred. The UK has no counterpart to our Bill of Rights. That having been said, this kind of academic oppression occurs on a regular basis, in every Western country including America.

The world is turning upside down faster than I can believe. In the 60's these leftist idiots were used by the Communists to try and bring down our country from within.

Now the same thing is happening with the leftists today, except the culprit is now Islamic Totalitarianism. As many here point out, if Islam were ever in charge, these leftists, feminists, etc would be the first to get their rights taken away and be forced into some medieval punishment by some sharia court.

How they cannot see that it is Islamists who are the intolerant ones is way beyone me. How can feminists stand up and protest with the Islamists knowing that in countries that practice that religion, they stone women to death for being raped, as it is a disgrace to the family?

Women cannot walk wothout being covered up for whatever reason......they are inferior.....one would think that this would enrage the leftists. But why doesnt it? It is all over college campi, and nary a word is uttered.

And if anything is said, like this brave soul, then he or she has to hide for fear of getting killed. This is far beyond acceptable.....time to stand up, men of the west.....our time draws near.

France doomed to anti-Semitism: archbishop

The archbishop of Paris and head of the Roman Catholic Church in France, Andre Vingt-Trois, said that France was doomed to a "pandemic of anti-Semitism" during a visit to Israel.

"France is doomed to a pandemic of anti-Semitism," he told a news conference in Tel Aviv with Israeli Tourism Minister Isaac Herzog after arriving on his first visit to the Holy Land.

"The feeling is fueled by a certain amount of events but we can be French and Catholic and not be frightened about meeting Jews and even enjoy it."

Calling himself "sensitive" to the feelings of French Jews who have suffered from anti-Semitism, he said that the "situation of Judaism in France and of Jews can only be followed with vigilance".

"They (Jews) know that in a serious situation, we are ready to be at their side," Vingt-Trois said, emphasising the "importance of relations between the Catholic church and Judaism".

The power behind these ongoing tantrums and violence is not held by the muslim world, it is held by the left and their strangle hold on key western institutions (media, education, etc.) The real enemy is the left and without them the muslims would be silently doing what they've been doing over the last 1000 years - nothing.

Wonderful article by Natan Sharansky. For those of you living in a cave or too young to know, Mr. Sharansky is a hero, not just to Jews, but to all people in search of freedom. His arrest in Russia for speaking out against anti-semitism landed him 13 years in the Gulag. Remarkably he survived and came to Israel to head the ministry on anti-semitism. Very sadly, he resigned from politics last year and his absence will be deeply felt.

Mobilze Now, Save the World discusses what the world should be doing about Iran. Read the article to understand the WHY, but here are the highlights. On the Iranian end:

First, ...Iranian officials should get the Soviet treatment. Just as no Soviet official, including sport and cultural delegations, could travel without being accosted by protests and hostile questions, so it should be with anyone representing the Iranian regime....

Second, an inventory of the governments and companies that provide Iran with refined oil, huge trade deals, and even military and nuclear assistance should be taken and public pressure be put on them to end their complicity with a regime that is racing to genocide.

Third, the pension funds of US states should be divested from all companies that trade with or invest in Iran. This divestment campaign must be pursued without apologies or hesitation.

Fourth, every country that is party to the Genocide Convention should be called upon to fulfill its obligation under that treaty and seek an indictment of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the charge of incitement to genocide, which is a "punishable offense" under Article III of that treaty.

Fifth, human rights groups... must stop squeezing both sides of the genocidal pincer. These groups must be challenged, on the one hand, to press for enforcement of the Genocide Treaty, to stand up for human rights in Iran, and to oppose and expose Iranian support for terrorism. On the other, they must stop perverting the sacred cause of human rights into a cudgel in Iran's hands against Israel.....

On the international end:

First, universities that provide chairs for professors who campaign against Israel's right to exist should be boycotted.....We must stand for a basic principle: If denying the Holocaust can land a professor in jail, denying Israel should not land him tenure.

Second, support for Israel must be demonstrated. Two decades after the massive Soviet Jewry rally of 1987, we need to return to the Mall on Israel's Independence Day in May with two messages: Support Israel and Stop Iran....

Tell your rabbis, your priests, ministers and your teachers. It happened in the worked Soviet Union and it can work today.
