Islamist-Leftist Grievance Theater Closes Early
When mother of 6 Alia Ansari was shot to death on a street in Fremont last October, Muslim groups immediately called for it to be investigated as an anti-Muslim hate crime. CAIR got involved. And the openly Stalinist Workers World Party released articles like this: Muslim woman victim of racist atrocity. Notice: that link goes to the left-wing “peace and freedom” site Global Exchange.
What happened to this woman was awful. But it was not an anti-Muslim hate crime; it was a random murder, and the person charged is a career criminal with a long history of violent felonies: Man charged in fatal shooting of Fremont woman. (Hat tip: zombie.)
(03-01) 13:43 PST FREMONT — A man originally described as a “person of interest” in the daytime killing of a mother of six on a Fremont street last year has been charged with her murder, an Alameda County prosecutor said today.
Manuel Urango, 27, who had been held on an unrelated parole violation, was charged Wednesday with murder and use of a weapon in the Oct. 19 slaying of Alia Ansari, 37, said Senior Deputy District Attorney Colton Carmine.
Ansari was walking with her 3-year-old daughter to pick up two other children from Glenmoor Elementary School in Fremont when a man jumped out of a car a block from her home, shot her once in the head and drove off.
Urango, who has prior convictions for auto theft, weapons and drugs possession and theft, is to appear this afternoon at the county courthouse in Fremont.
Immediately after the slaying, Ansari’s relatives said they believed it was a hate crime, because the only thing that would distinguish her to a stranger was her head scarf, or hijab, worn by some devout Muslim women.
Carmine said today, however, that there was no evidence to suggest that Ansari’s killing was a hate crime. The prosecutor said it appeared that Urango and Ansari had not known each other.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we’re really not prepared to talk about motive,” Carmine said. “At this time, it’s not charged as a hate crime and there’s no evidence that prosecutors are aware of that qualifies as a hate crime.”
Will the same grievance mongers who called so quickly for hate crime investigations now admit they were mistaken? (Rhetorical question.)
