UN Official Attacked in Gaza
Just because you’re their friend, it doesn’t mean they won’t attack you: Aid chief unhurt in Gaza attack.
Palestinian gunmen have fired on a vehicle transporting a UN aid official in the northern Gaza Strip.
John Ging, director of the UN Relief and Works Agency in Gaza, was returning from the Erez border crossing with Israel when the attack occurred. Mr Ging said gunmen fired multiple shots into the armoured vehicle. They also tried to force the door. …
Mr Ging said that the gunmen jumped out of a white Subaru and opened fire. “They tried to force open the car, but our driver extracted himself from that situation” and sped away, he said. “This is a shocking development. We are still considering how to deal with this.” [How about giving them a state? —ed.]
He said the vehicle, which was struck by 11 bullets, was clearly marked with UN insignia. UNRWA provides relief services to more than 4.3 million registered Palestinian refugees in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, intensive efforts are continuing to find missing BBC Gaza correspondent Alan Johnston, who is feared kidnapped.
