Some (not all) of my bathroom reading material for the LGF Makeover Project:

And an update on our caching experiments: I’ve abandoned them. Not because caching isn’t good. But because I worked out an even less processor-intensive way to achieve the same effect—by writing out separate “no comments” versions of our posts when a post is created or edited, or when a comment is posted. With this approach, the older files never become “stale” and have to be re-cached; once comments are closed, they’re basically frozen. And the files are very small, typically 4-8K. So this is a win-win, as they say in the used car biz.
Meanwhile, as you can see from the picture above, the MySQL conversion continues, although it was hard to get much work done today with Drudge and all.
