Last night I downloaded "Morning Has Broken" for my iPod. Cat Stevens is often credited for having written it when in fact it was written in 1931. He even refused to to acknowledge Rick Wakeman's piano contribution on the hit until years later.

A great tune spoiled by the thought of what this man has become.

Rick Wakeman released an instrumental version of the song in 2000.

U.S. Can't Account for 600,000 'Illegal' Fugitives

WASHINGTON (AP) - Teams assigned to make sure foreigners ordered out of the United States actually leave have a backlog of more than 600,000 cases and can't accurately account for the fugitives' whereabouts, the government reported Monday.
The report by the Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the effectiveness of teams assigned to find the fugitives was hampered by "insufficient detention capacity, limitations of an immigration database and inadequate working space."

Even though more than $204 million was allocated for 52 fugitive operations teams since 2003, a backlog of 623,292 cases existed as of August of 2006, the report said.

The number of illegal immigrants in the United States has been estimated at between 11.5 million and 12 million. About 5.4 percent of them are believed to be "fugitive aliens," those who have failed to leave the country after being ordered out.

The inspector general found there is not enough bed space available to detain such fugitives and that agents are hampered by an inaccurate database. Other factors that limit the teams' effectiveness are insufficient staffing, the report said.

Until the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, attempts to catch such fugitives were mostly carried out by teams not exclusively devoted to the task. After the attacks, an Absconder Apprehension Initiative was created within the Justice Department to find, apprehend and deport such immigrants. When the Homeland Security Department was created in March 2003, it assumed responsibility.

Plans for the new office stated that it aimed to eliminate the case backlog by the end of 2012, although a field manual put the timetable at 2009, the report said.

Yet "despite the efforts of the teams, the backlog of fugitive alien cases has increased each fiscal year since the program was established in February 2002," the inspector general said.

But the report said the weekly field office reports sent to headquarters do not accurately reflect what the teams have actually done. Sometimes they include apprehensions made by other federal, state or local law enforcement agencies. The reports might also include cases closed because of an immigrant's death, voluntary departure from the country or being changed to legal status.

"The current reporting system does not provide a means by which managers can assess teams' performance," the inspector general concluded. That makes it impossible to determine if the teams are meeting their goals, the report said.

OT: Did anyone else watch the PBS documentary on "Pilgrimage to Karbala" tonight? I missed the first part but saw most of it, and I didn't see anything about the idiot Mooselims cutting themselves up and bleeding all over the place to "celebrate" Ashura. They made the whole thing out to be this beautiful, sanctified, holy event, with the only bloodletting shown when a goat had its head cut off, and that was only for a few seconds.

They made quite a big deal about how Iran (the pilgrims were Iranians who took a bus from Tehran to Karbala) isn't the "increasingly secularized" nation that the West hopes it is, and that middle class and professional types are making the pilgrimage, are devout Mooselims, etc. But it wasn't a "you should be scared of the crazy people" angle, it was more like, "you see, these intelligent, normal people love their beautiful religion."

Of course, they did talk a lot about Imam Hussain and martyrdom, but it was all in a very sanitized, stylized, "holy" way, with the only dead bodies shown being those killed by the Shah's troops during the revolution of 1979.

Thousands evacuated in Gaza sewage flood

UMM NASER VILLAGE, Gaza Strip- At least three people died and many more were missing after sewage and mud flooded a northern Gaza Strip village Tuesday, officials said.

The village, Umm Naser, was flooded when the earth wall of a large cesspool sewage pool collapsed. A 70-year-old woman, a 4-year-old boy, and another man died in the sudden flood, and another 25 people were injured, according to Dr. Muawiya Hassanin of the Palestinian Health Ministry.

At least 25 houses were completely submerged in the sewage, and residents said more than 200 people were still missing in the village of 3,000.

The cause of the collapse was not immediately clear.

Rescue crews and gunmen from the militant Muslim group Hamas rushed to the area to search for people feared buried. Most of the village's residents fled or were evacuated.

Perhaps there is a reason why Hamas rushed gunmen to the scene so quickly, and they fired on the PA Interior Minister. Perhaps the sh*t tank conceals a Hamas military site. Perhaps Hamas undermined the tank with tunnels for armaments or transit. It may be a bunker. Maybe that's why it collapsed and caused the tragedy.

U.S. says caught Iraq car bombers blamed for 900 dead

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces captured two leaders of a major car bomb cell responsible for attacks that killed around 900 Iraqis, mostly in the Shi'ite district of Sadr City in Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

The first of the two suspects was captured when U.S. forces noticed his vehicle weaving in and out of traffic and his driver ignored signals to stop.

The second was detained around seven hours later after U.S. forces received "actionable intelligence" that led them to stop a passing vehicle, the statement said.

I would guess the "actionable intelligence" was comprised of the first guy singing like a bird. I expect the ACLU to demand that both of these terrorists are given medals and treated like heroes (they are in the MSM eyes). And I'm sure the enemy appreciated the MSM divulging how these two animals were caught.
