Saturday Morning Spike
That was strange. Our server load shot up into the stratosphere, for no obvious reason. The system utility ‘top’ shows a number representing the server load over the past few minutes; a normal value for Saturday morning would be in the range of 2 to 4. As I was watching, it suddenly climbed to over 300, in less than a minute. Our host says it wasn’t an attack, just a heck of a spike.
If you saw a message that read, “MDB2 Error: connect failed,” it’s nothing to be concerned about. Since we were down anyway, I thought it would be a good time to delete a few million old log entries, and it took a bit longer than expected—hence the connection failure.
We’re back now, and here’s an open thread while I check a few things…
